Chain of Fate: Book Two

Lynx shifter Trace Wilson’s fun-loving exterior hides a heart scarred by severe domestic violence—a heart that might not ever trust another male, fated mate or not. When Trace moves to Seattle to take his place as trainer and council representative to the Glacier Rim Tribe, he discovers his mate is the vampire prince Sasha Tolstoi, leader of the Konstantin Coven. It’s not something Trace is ready to accept. Not now, maybe not ever. But if there’s one thing Sasha knows how to do, it’s how to be patient, especially when his fated heart is also his perfect sub.

When an outside force threatens the fragile bond slowly forming between them—and nearly kills Trace—Trace’s instincts shift into high gear. Sasha is powerful, and that means he has enemies, among them several rival covens and an uncle determined to force Sasha into a marriage with a vampire princess. But why involve the lynx Trace in their maneuvering? Finding the culprit won’t be easy, and it will mean building trust—a slow and difficult prospect for someone who’s suffered as much as Trace. Finding a way to move beyond the past, and to love, before those out to finish Sasha can destroy either, is a race the two fated hearts have to win.

1) It’s hard for me to believe that this is a debut novel. The writing is lush and expressive. The setting conveys both place and mood so vividly and deftly. The characters are believable, fully realised, and, with one exception, very sympathetic. What impressed me most, though, was the author’s ability to capture the conflicts, fast-changing emotions, and interpersonal dynamics of a group of teenagers. A wholly believable coming-of-age story. I couldn’t put it down.
2) Loved the writing and the strong sense of place and time it creates. The characters are vividly drawn.
3) A well written, entertaining and absorbing story that was difficult to put down. an excellent addition to the genre of YA gay romance. I would recommend it to teenagers and adults of any age.

All at once, he is plunged along a path of desire and discovery that has him questioning everything he thought he knew about himself. 1) This book really grabs you from the beginning. I could not wait to see how it played out. I will be looking for more from this author.
2) This was a great urban fantasy novel that deserves mention. I liked how the novel begins with the conflict right away, and presents the moral issues in which the main character has to struggle. The editing and formatting could've been better, but it's a great story that captivated me.

Well it finally happened. The world ended. It didn't happen the way anyone expected it would. No nukes, no pandemics, just a whole lot of rage and a whole lot of violence. None of us saw it coming. There were plenty of clues, but none of us figured it out in time. The real kicker is, I'm pretty sure someone planned it. I'm pretty sure someone did it on purpose.

I'm Holden. I survived. You won't like my story. That's too bad, because your world's headed the same way as mine. Everything that happened to me, is going to happen to you. The same kind of people that did this to me, will do it to you. They're doing it right now. They're making it worse and you don't even see it. Sure, I could help you. I could give it a try, but you won't listen. I'm not the same religion. I'm not the same as you. I'm a different kind than you, so you won't listen. That's why it'll happen to you. Don't say I didn't warn you. Don't say you didn't have a clue. Not when all you had to do was listen.

Heathens is a young adult post apocalyptic science fiction novel. Heathens contains some coarse language and violence.

1)A.M. Hawke has created an interesting society with her detailed world building and her fully realised MCs and supporting cast made me care enough about them to want to know what happens to them, their hopes and dreams as this series develops.
2) It took me a while to get into the story, but once I was, I was hooked.  Interesting worldbuilding which is very political. The characters are complex, as is the plot, and I liked the fact it wasn't stereotypical in any way. I also liked the way it didn't shy away from the realities of war, and the battlefield. The ending gives the impression that this is just the beginning.

Salvation follows gladiator-pit-ruler Malek and sky-ruler Soran. Their two states face destruction unless the men can form a bond they both can trust.

Sexy and violent, with great battles in a beautiful cloud city, Hawke’s work has been described as dark, bloody, and thought-provoking. Salvation should appeal to readers of gay fiction and stories involving men loving men.

Famed gladiator Malek the Destroyer has spent years secretly plotting a revolution against the oppressive Senate that rules his planet. Popular victors who have retired, left the city of Dis, or even apparently died in the arena have secretly trained as Malek’s revolutionary army.

But Malek’s revolution won’t stand a chance if only one city fights it. He reaches out to Soran, leader of the one autonomous city left on the planet, Aerix. Soran leads a caste of Skyknights, starfighter pilots famed for elaborate body modifications that make them nimble fighters and grueling training as soldiers and fighter pilots. Malek invites Soran to Dis to secure an alliance—and to tempt him with promises of power.

1) I absolutely love the two main characters. They are complex and likable, with relatable problems and great chemistry. They’re excellent foils for each other, without being caricatures. Alex Henning, the hot, brawny construction worker with equally heavyweight brains, a heart of gold, and unexpected emotional depths, will remain one of my all-time favorite characters. It’s also a good emotional coming-of-age story for gun-shy Gideon Wallace, whose early experience left him too cautious to enjoy a real relationship. Really an enjoyable story. Loved it.
2) I loved the variety of characters, the interesting setting, and the real life issues they all had to deal with. Gideon and Alex, along with the supporting cast, have a variety of situations and issues they are faced with, their work is not just a thing mentioned in passing, and they are forced to deal with how life, love, friendship, and daily mishaps blend together to create a whirlwind they have to untangle. The story challenges both characters and the reader to look beyond their fears and prejudice, without lecturing anyone. Lessons are learned the way they should be: to trial and frequent errors. As the plot develops, the characters show more of themselves, and everything, including the romance, seems very real.
3) This was a wonderful book, especially if you like holiday stories. The characters were well thought out and original. The plot was interesting and nicely wound through the romance. I loved the geeky chapter headers as well. The only thing I wish were different presentation wise is that Alex should be on the cover in a meaningful way. We have this wonderful IR relationship, and Alex is described so beautifully. I find it odd that the way more intriguingly described PoC was not on the cover. I would love to know why the publisher ultimately made that decision.

After the disastrous ending of his first serious relationship, Gideon Wallace cultivated a protective—but fabulously shiny—outer shell to shield himself from Heartbreak 2.0. Besides, romance is so not a priority for him right now. All his web design prospects have inexplicably evaporated, and to save his fledgling business, he’s been compelled to take a hands-on hardware project—as in, his hands on screwdrivers, soldering irons, and needle-nosed pliers. God. Failure could actually be an option.

Journeyman electrician Alex Henning is ready to leave Gideon twisting in the wind after their run-ins both on and off the construction site. Except, like a fool, he takes pity on the guy and offers to help. Never mind that between coping with his dad’s dementia and clocking all the overtime he can finagle, he has zero room in his life for more complications.

Apparently, an office build-out can lay the foundation for a new relationship. Who knew? But before Alex can trust Gideon with the truth about his fragile family, he has to believe that Gideon’s capable of caring about more than appearances. And Gideon must learn that when it comes to the heart, it’s content—not presentation—that matters.

1) I loved her humorous style. Also, I think this book has great market potential for two reasons. First, it's hilarious, and second, it fits nicely in a popular and neglected genre: bathroom reading. As some character (don't remember who) said in "The Big Chill," she writes the perfect length for the "average reader to read during the average crap." That is not to demean her talent. She has real skill, and in a genre that, frankly, may be the only literature that far too many people ever read.

As the author of four humorous memoirs, activist and comedian Fay Jacobs returns with her newest tall tales, Fried & Convicted, Rehoboth Beach Uncorked. And, as you’d expect, It’s chock-full of Fay’s signature witty, wise, and often laugh-out-loud commentary about the craziness of contemporary life in the diverse and welcoming resort town of Rehoboth Beach on the Delaware Coast.

This time, though, everyone’s favorite “Sit-Down Comic” grapples with the insanity of a high-tech bra, cartoon bladders in prescription advertising, and refusing to act her age . . .

Fried & Convicted was written over the last few years and culminates with Election Day, 2016. It chronicles the joy of gaining equal marriage rights for same-sex couples, tales of Icelandic lagoons, Provincetown adventures, and much ado about lesbians of a certain age. It tells a few harrowing personal stories, such as Bonnie’s unnerving medical diagnosis, the time Fay went kayaking with alligators, and how she came up with a public relations scheme to rescue her pal’s purloined pooch. And through it all, she finds a way to make it provocative, political, occasionally heartwarming, and reliably hilarious.

Featuring Fay’s latest magazine columns plus new, never before published material, Fried & Convicted is a pleasure for longtime fans and new readers alike.

Come along for the ride—you’ll be happy you did!

Fay Jacobs spent thirty years in Washington, DC working in journalism and public relations. Her latest project is a one-woman show, Aging Gracelessly: 50 Shades of Fay, which is being performed in theatres around the country. She lives in Rehoboth Beach with her wife of thirty-four years and a Miniature Schnauzer.

1) This nonstop, fast-paced cyberpunk thriller really knocks it out of the park. The main character is smart and bold, with just the right amount of concealed vulnerability. The story is original and well executed. The cyberpunk setting is well-thought-out and impeccably detailed. A joy from start to finish.

1) There was much to like about this book. The title was evocative, and the diversity of characters was both welcome and believable. It was a solid, good read.
2) Delightfully creepy tale that could well have been part of  the Twilight Zone series, complete with menacing townsfolk and rotting buildings A different twist is given in part by the main characters who are mostly transgendered. Interesting and spooky plot.
3) I loved the way the stories all linked together to form a full story.  Great sense of evil and horror, and interesting diverse characters.  Hope there's a sequel as it feels as though the fight against evil has only just begun.

1) The author's heart shines through in this genuine romance with well-developed, interesting characters. A recommended read.
2) I have not read the earlier books but it did not take me long to feel as though I was in Hawaii with the lush descriptions of the island. The warmth and love Rob and Kulani's 'family' feel for each other is skillfully told though both the current story and backstory. That being said, there are several occasions when the author dropped a large info dump which broke up the flow of the story for me. However, the intricately draw characterisations of Danny, Zane, Kulani and Rob more than made up for those. Overall, I really enjoyed this is a story of revenge, love, denial, family ties, loss of innocence and developing maturity.

1) The second in what will be a series featuring this pair of British female explorers working in the 1920s.  The detailed historical background merges well with the fantasy and magic in the book.  The characters are all well drawn and interesting and the plot of the adventure, complete with the dangers, holds the reader.  Even though I had not read the first book, I had no trouble picking up with these characters in the the second.  Very strong effort.

1) I really enjoyed this story, especially since I spent some time in Las Vegas. The characters pulled me in from the beginning and I really wanted to see what would happen next. Fans of Ms. Witt are sure to love this book.
2) I really enjoyed reading this book by LA Witt. Then again, I've always enjoyed all her stories. This was a sweet, compassionate tale of a rich man in the throes of desperation thinking the only solution to his problems is suicide. Luckily he changes his mind but not before gambling all his money away. He then becomes homeless and is ultimately saved by a casino worker. Very enjoyable story with a sweet ending.

1) This is the best book I have read in any coming of age genre.  I could feel and believe that I was Peter in the story.  His love/hate relationship with Adam and all the secrecy needed to hide the fact that they were gay in a time when this wasn't allowed, tore him apart.  I can't wait to read the rest of the 4 book series so I can see what happens to Peter.
2) A well-written, believable, New-Adult coming-of-age story, that begins a promising series. Eighteen-year-old Peter Mandel is a very sympathetic character, with flaws that are both frustrating and painfully real. He's struggling to move on from the friendless, bullied kid he's been in public high school. With a change of schools, he meets a new classmate - charismatic, bisexual Adam. But in 1991, being out as gay is far from safe, and so Peter's joy in a first relationship is tempered by becoming Adam's dirty secret. Adam offers protests of forever love in secret, and a casual friendship in public. The result is a moving, infuriating, realistic tale of a young man trying to navigate the difficult waters of his own needs, his boyfriend's fears, his family's prejudices, and the risks from bullies and homophobic adults. The book's ending is open, more of a new beginning, and I look forward to reading the next installment.

1) A thrill-a-minute intergalactic adventure with a slow-burn romance that really satisfies. Truly outstanding worldbuilding, and a multi-layered plot with dynamic characters. This book was an absolute delight from start to finish.
2) Skythane was a totally engrossing read. The world building was rich and detailed, and the characters were three dimensional.  I could never second guess where the story was going and I couldn't put the book down. The true test of a book for me is, 'would I read a sequel' and I can say with this one, I absolutely would.
3) The world building in this piece was phenomenal, as were the characters. Although the story started out a little slow, it quickly picked up pace and made me believe in this alien world along with the different species that inhabited it.
4) I enjoyed the story even when I had difficulty keeping track of everything… It made me want to keep on reading from start to finish. I would definitely read more from this author.

1) I absolutely loved this book. It had me sucked in from page one. I couldn’t wait to keep reading. I didn’t want the book to end. I wished there were more stories to follow. I liked not only the main characters, but all the secondary and background characters.
2) This was quite a sweet story, a wonderful, entertaining tale. From the get go, I appreciated Leo, Leone, and their zodiac obsessed mother. The sexual tension, warm feelings, happiness, and so much more will bring nothing but satisfaction at the end. I'd recommend this book to anyone who has eyes or ear (in the case of an Audio Book or someone that could read it for you! :D Another well written and wonderful book by Ms. Sunday!
3) This was just lovely. It was funny and heartwarming. The author's writing style invited the reader in and made them cozy as they read. Well done!

1) Let’s start with the basics. The author has a strong command of grammar, spelling, and punctuation. This should be a given, but I find it increasingly rare these days, so it was a relief to discover that the book was well-written. The only exception to this is phrases such as “who might try and stop us.” The correct word is “to,” not “and.” One might excuse the main character since he hasn’t even graduated high school, but he speaks flawlessly throughout the rest of the book, so one suspects the error is really the author’s and not the character’s. There were a handful of typos, but only a handful. This is all basic editing, but the book passed the first hurdle with solid writing. The subject matter, unfortunately, is awfully distasteful. A hired thug/killer who befriends and falls in love with another gang member. But the author gives us the “whore with a heart of gold” in this murderer guided by ethical principles. That’s probably the least believable part of the story, but the character is presented realistically, so I went along. I never got a strong feel for the specific city, but the individual scenes in various nightclubs, storage rooms, etc felt real enough. I liked that the main character, Pierce, has a cataract in one of his eyes. It’s an interesting detail that comes up several times in the story. I also like that the love interest, Miles, is mixed race. In most gay mysteries/thrillers, the sex often feels forced, put in to satisfy the reader’s demand for love scenes but totally out of place in the story. That’s not the case here. The sex always feels organic, a natural part of the story. There’s perhaps a bit too much of it, but only a bit. The only time the sex is really a problem is after Pierce learns Miles has been lying to him and as punishment forces Miles to service him. It may not technically be rape, but it’s close enough and makes me dislike Pierce, not something I think the author intended, since liking a murderer is already an uphill climb. Pierce hadn’t been a total creep before—the reader doesn’t even mind watching him kill Malloy—but now he comes across as a total douchebag. Fortunately, his later actions redeem him yet again. Spoiler alert here so stop reading if you need to. One wonders why Pierce is so slow to suspect the family member who is sabotaging the Vice organization. I think the reader suspects it a hundred pages before the main character does. But the final confrontation and conclusion are satisfying regardless. The last couple of lines are a bit too sappy, given the nature of the characters, but all in all, the book was a compelling and satisfying read.
2) The writing in this story was absolutely spectacular. Gritty, dark, grim - and just as it should have been. A story depicting a mob hit man wouldn't have been done right any other way.  I expected violence and death, and that's exactly what the author delivered. I was surprised to see that there was also an M/M Romance in this as well, and it was executed brilliantly. The relationship started off as tenuous and seedy as the rest of the world building was.  Mob crime isn't my type of reading, but the way the author ushered me into her world, the more I appreciated the 'gumshoe' aspects of it all. Exceptionally well done.

Vice City: Book One

After twenty years as an enforcer for the Vice family mob, Nicholas Pierce shouldn’t bat an eye at seeing a guy get worked over and tossed in the river. But there’s something about the suspected police mole, Miles, that has Pierce second-guessing himself. The kid is just trying to look out for his brother any way he knows how, and the altruistic motive sparks an uncharacteristic act of mercy that involves Pierce taking Miles under his wing.

Miles wants to repay Pierce for saving his life. Pierce shouldn’t see him as anything but a convenient hookup… and he sure as hell shouldn’t get involved in Miles’s doomed quest to get his brother out of a rival street gang. He shouldn’t do a lot of things, but life on the streets isn’t about following the rules. Besides, he’s sick of being abused by the Vice family, especially Mr. Vice and his power-hungry goon of a son, who treats his underlings like playthings.

So Pierce does the absolute last thing he should do if he wants to keep breathing—he leaves the Vice family in the middle of a turf war.

1) I really liked this book. Difficult subject matter, but so well-handled. Had me holding my breath that Wade's and Russ's relationship would work out despite the obstacles. Warning, there are triggers.
2) This story is good but is not in any way a light read. It covers subjects that could be triggers for some readers. I love that the author was up front about this from the very beginning, as few authors are. The characters held my interest and I found myself wanting everything to work out well for them.
3) This is an excellent novel about the differences between BDSM based on trust and responsibility and non-consensual abuse. The author clearly understands the effects of trauma.

1) A really gripping mystery plot. I liked this book a lot. It was more of a mystery thriller ( and a very good one at that) than a romance; the romantic elements were there, but more like brushed on, very gently, like the pinch of sugar that makes a spicy chili even tastier. A highly pleasant read!
2) The premise is good, a serial killer attacking men who've cheated on their wives. The writing flowed smoothly, the dialogue was convincing, and the characters were both believable and likable. I also liked that there weren't pornographic sex scenes thrown in just because this was a romance. Overall, I found the book quite a fun read. As a resident of Seattle, I found the setting convincing. Whether or not the details about police work and police departments were accurate, they FELT accurate and were also convincing.
3) This was a great mystery. The detective story was interesting and the investigation flowed nicely, although some aspects, some minor details were lost on Detective Tao. The characters were all interesting and unique and the way fiction was entwined with the very real Ashley Madison scandal was truly interesting. I loved the non-standard relationship the two MCs have and how it builds up throughout the story. Great read, kept me engaged and definitely surprised me with the killer reveal.

2) This had a tear in my eyes at the opening scene and kept me reading for the whole story. I liked it.
3) This was not a totally new kind of plot, but it was able to portrait the story a lot better and in a more interesting way, that was able to keep my attention. Good story and very good writing style!

1)This adaptation of the famous poem, The Highwayman, is a historical romance between two women, one a local pastor's daughter and the other the dashing thief who robs nobles and uses these gains to help the poor.  The author presents historical details convincingly, describes a small rural town vividly, and provides the forward plot as well as the backstory in a manner that holds the reader's attention.

Elizabeth Collington, the twenty-year-old daughter of a country vicar, longs for more than the circumscribed life of her 18th-century Devonshire village. When a highwayman steals a kiss along with her mother's necklace – provoking feelings of which her father would never approve – she suddenly has a secret no one must know. But the highwayman also has a secret: "he" is actually a woman.

Will the story of the highwayman's past – complete with a tyrannical husband, a gloomy castle, and a daring escape into London's underworld – persuade Elizabeth to abandon propriety in favor of passion? In the end, can the lovers make an independent life in a world where women are little more than property, evading both the redcoats and the jealous young lord who would tear them apart?

Daring and Decorum is comedy of manners wrapped around a gothic tale; a mashup of Jane Austen, Alfred Noyes' poem The Highwayman, Robin Hood, and Moll Cutpurse; and a passionate case for the freedom to love whom one chooses, Daring and Decorum: A Highwayman Novel should appeal to fans of Ellen Kushner's Riverside series, Emma Donoghue's Life Mask, and Michelle Martin's Pembroke Park (billed as the first lesbian Regency).

Navigating a new relationship? Hard. Doing so as an ill-trained elementalist? Impossible – but odds improve when well-meaning family steps in.
Ash, the water-whisperer, and Cooper, the earth elementalist, seek help from Cooper’s grandparents while at their small farm in upstate New York. Fessing up to grandma might lessen the horror of their power control issues. When Ash and Cooper are together, the earth moves and the rivers rise to flood stage.
Keeping their relationship going without leveling the city pales in comparison to facing off with the greedy Brian Clegg and his gang. Brian works for the environmentally destructive frackers, threatening Pittsburgh like never before.

Book 2 in the Disorderly Elements series, LIKE A TORRENT features paranormal battles, a spicy romance with two hot guys in love, and a Japanese sword with a mind of its own. For adult audiences only.
