What a day!

I want to write this down cause, if I haven't seen it with my eyes I maybe think is not true. I have a book coffe shop and three day per week we have dinner (we are recently nominated as the best place to go on dinner in my city). But my cook has decided to go on holiday for one week and tonight I was without cook and with 20 persons for dinner. So I asked to my mother to cook at home and to my barman to prepare and serve. My barman is a 37 years old divorced guy with a 9 years old daughter and this week he have his daughter with him. So my business partner, Federica, (who not so secretely have a crush for him) has agreed to take the little girl with her meanwhile his father works. Today the barman, Gerald, asked me to book a room in Florence for two and three train tickets: he has to bring his daughter to her mother and then wants to pass a weekend with his girlfriend (yes, he has also a girlfriend). When Federica has seen the booking for the train tickets for three (yes I unfortunately make them with the email of the bookshop...) first asked me why three tickets, and when I said that one was for his girlfriend, she has said that he no more have a girlfriend (!!!). I said: oh yes, and who is the girl I often see with him? then she asked me when, and I said: also last week, on Valentine's Day, when he has left work with a rose and a gift for her. So she left me and started to talk and cry on phone with another friend. Gerald saw her cry and asked me what happens. I said: she has seen the tickets and was sad. He went mad and wanted to left work; took his daughter and in front of her (a 9 years old child) and in front of all the customers started to scream against Federica. Federica continued to cry and insisted she wanted to talk and explain. Also the little girl was crying. So I said to Gerald: can I take the child out? I go on the near pizza shop and take something to eat for her. Gerald said to me to not kidnap her child: ME?!?. The waiter (a poor 20 years old guy who is with us since only two weeks) arrived and said customers has begun to ask what happens. Gerald said he would start work if she went out. So I took Federica and lock us in a room and started to yell to her to stop and to go home. She, with an heartbreaking expression, went home and then started to phone me and said she wanted to talk to Gerald. I passed two hours in the kitchen with my mobile in hand to listen to her and to refer to Gerald what she said. In the end Gerald, work finish, went home and she said to me to stop him and when I not succeeded in stopping him, she said to me why I met me between their two: again ME?!?. I shut the phone out. After few minutes, Federica called again, and when I answered she asked me: BTW how was the dinner going? guys, I want to kill her!

Opulence at Midnight by Renee Manley

Opulence is the exact word to describe this fairy tale by Renee Manley: her writing style is rich and fable, I have the impression to read some of the old tale of my childhood. When I was young I had a big book full of tale and picture of prince and princess. This tale by Renee Manley could be one of those.

Sylvain is a 19 years old prince of an imaginary realm. He is the second son so not the crown prince. And fortunately he is not the prince who has to marry in one year. Traditions say that at 21 years old all the nobleman have to be married. So his father declares three days of bash to find a perfect wife for his first son Neville. But the very first night is Sylvain who finds a perfect companion in Roslyn, an handsome and dark stranger who stoles his body and soul.

At the end of the three day, Sylvain will find a way to stay with his new lover?

This is a very short tale, but absolutely a worth reading. For me (I'm italian) a little difficult, cause Renee Manley is a word's master and every sentence is like a Renaissance's painting, full of details and hidden meaning.
