Plot Bunny

This one is a very short plot, basically just a start and no much more.

When I was little one of my favourite DIsney movies was The Dalmatians (the cartoon, the original one). My story starts more or less in the same way: two dogs play in a park and doing so they allow to their owner to meet.

One is a rock star with a very unruly life. He is a very famous face and he can't walk on the street without gathering histerical fans. So he is forced to go out surrounded by bodyguard and even to take out his dog to the park he must do that very soon in the morning and always with his bodyguard. One of this morning his dog starts to play with another dog and the rock star immediately suspects that this is a trick of the owner to meet him. Instead when he meets the guy he must change his mind: the guy is a blind man. A very kind and gentle blind man. And he obviously doesn't recognize the rockstar, since he can't see him in face and he doesn't see the bodyguards (the rock star motions them to stay far). Plus the blind man is more a classical music type than a rock one, and so he only notices that the rock star has a nice voice but no more than that. They start to meet in the morning at the park, and when the rock star allows the blind man to see him with the hands, the blind man suspects that the rock star is almost a bum, or perhaps a guy in need, giving the long and unruly hair, the torn dress and other small details. More the time passes more the rock star falls in love for the blind man, but he doesn't know how to reveal the truth, since it means also to throw into confusion the simple and quite life of the blind man.

A curios case of homonymy

I was browsing the net in search of info about Elizabeth Stuart (not the queen! THIS Elisabeth Stuart was a romance writer, five books and three important awards and then puff! disappears from the face of the world... but I found what happened to her and I will write about her in the future...).

Many bibliographies (also of important and specific sites), tell that Elizabeth Stuart, author of Where Love Dwells, is the same Elizabeth Stuart, author of Daring to Speak Love’s Name: A Gay and Lesbian Prayer Book... even if I'd love to discover a such interesting news, I have to say that it's not true. They are not the same person. But I was very happy to discover this new Elizabeth Stuart, and so maybe also you'd like to know something more (if you just don't know her... maybe she is famous and I don't know that!)

Professor Elizabeth Stuart (born Kent) is a UK theologian specialising in Queer Theology. She is Professor of Christian Theology at the University of Winchester and was founding chair of the Centre for the Study of Christianity and Sexuality. She co-edits the academic journal Theology and Sexuality.

Professor Stuart was consecrated as a Bishop in the Open Episcopal Church (a small, independent grouping within the United Kingdom). In 2006 she became Archbishop of the Province of Great Britain and Ireland of the Liberal Catholic Church International.

Her published works include: Gay and Lesbian Theologies: Repetitions and Critical Difference; Just Good Friends: Towards a Lesbian and Gay Theology of Relationships; Daring to Speak Love’s Name; Religion is a Queer Thing.

These works show Stuart moving from a liberationist approach to an approach grounded in queer theory. She now argues that gender and sexuality are not matters of ultimate theological concerns and that the Christian duty is to refuse to work theologically with such categories.

In 2008 Stuart received the LGCM Award for 'energetic and prophetic advocacy on behalf of LGBT people, numerous pioneering theological books, and for remaining a loyal member of LGCM'.

Interesting woman, isn't she? I didn't even know that queer theology was an existing matter!

Wondering... am I hot?

Following the good advice of [personal profile] erastes , I listed my blog on Queer Listing, and this morning I received the notice that my listing was approved. I went on the site to make the claim and I discovered that my blog was tagged as HOT

http://www.queerlisting.com/arts-and-humanities/literature/

Not that I'm complaining about that, it's nice to have a red stamp beside my name declaring that I'm hot, but I'm wondering... why me and not other blogs?

Really, this is not a complaint, I greatly prefer to be hot than boring, I'm only a little bit amused...

Best Futuristic Novel (2° place): My Fair Captain by J.L. Langley

Another funny and beautiful series by J.L. Langley.

Aiden is a prince of a futuristic planet, Regelence: even if they use the modern technology the kingdon is still led like in the Regengy era with a little twist: the society is all patriarchal and the homosexuality is the norm. Plus, the same sex partners can decide to genetically create a son with both their genes and to alterate his sexual preference in order to make him prefer men. And finally, is common beliefs that the chastity before marriage is a virtue, so men has to remain virgin until their 25 birthday or until the marriage: a man found in a compromising situation with another man is obliged to marry.

So when Nate, the disowened son of a near planet's duke and now captain on the Interstallar Army, is asked to investigate on a weapons theft happened on Regelence, he is hosted by the royal family: Stephen, the king, Raleigh, his consort, and 5 sons, and among them Aiden. For Nate is love at first sight: Aiden is young and innocent, but clever and spirit. He wants to be an artist, he doesn't want to marry some man, and become a consort bonded to family due and striclty cerimonial. But when he sees Nate, he can't deny the sudden and unknown desire he feels and suddenly become Nate's consort is not a so bad idea.

I like very much the plot of the story and the fact that many part of the book is dedicated to explain and close all the open point of Nate's story. The book has an open end, I will bet we will read in the future all the stories of the Aiden's brothers, but in this book you will have plenty of time to enjoy the evolving love story between Aiden and Nate and all its unexpected shifts...

As always J.L. Langley is master in humor, and the Gay Regency Society is a great original idea. The royal family is an happy bunch of brats and they are all well portrayed and all deserve an own book.
