In memory of Jack Woodford

Jack Woodford (1894–1971) was a successful pulp novelist and non-fiction author of the 1930s and 1940s. He wrote unique books on writing and getting published. Most famously, Woodford authored Trial and Error which caused something of a scandal at the time of publication because of its no-holds-barred insights into the publishing industry.

Among the many famous contemporaries Woodford befriended, the most notable are H. L. Mencken, writer/satirist James Branch Cabell, novelist Sherwood Anderson, composer George Antheil, and poet Ezra Pound. Woodford wrote a piece that was published in Pound’s early Exile magazine. He also accompanied Winston Churchill when the former Prime Minister visited New York City.

Woodford founded Jack Woodford Press in the 1930s and the company's work was distributed by Citadel in the 1940s.

“Boy meets girl; girl gets boy into pickle; boy gets pickle into girl.” - Jack Woodford

Endangered by Gabrina Garza

Tony and Kat are two brothers living in the Amazon forest and searching a mysterious cat breeds, the Shadow Cats. They are financing by a strange millionaire who has his own interest in stake. Tony and Kat are grown in the Forest, since their parents lead the research before them, and when they were killed, Tony takes the commanding role. But he has his secrets and also some problems with memory: he returned in USA six years before and spent half a year there only to return in Peru and don't remember nothing of the previous six months. Plus since then, everytime he kisses a man (Tony is gay...), he erases the memory of his partner.

Now the millionaire brings them a new man to help in the research, Stryker. But Stryker is not a simple man and he seems to have other reasons than helping in researching the animals. Tony and Stryker, alone in the forest, discover that they have more in common than expected, and sex is hot, but Stryker has a mission to finish, and it involves discovering all Tony's secrets and maybe killing him afterward.

This is only the first of a series. And actually it doesn't end, but only stop at a moment with a "to be continued" closing phrase. Maybe in the second one I will discover what happen to Tony and Stryker in the past, and if they have something in common other than a sexual attraction. I have my own idea, and time seems to coincide, so...

Tony is a strange character, he is not easy to classify. Commanding in a moment and submissive soon after... maybe he likes to be controlled in love matters, and instead wants to be in command when at work. Stryker I don't know, he is a type of few words and his feelings are puzzling...

In this moment I don't have a really good idea of the book, other than that it's a good adventures and paranormal, and it reminds me a bit of the Leopard series by Christine Feehan, that it's a very good shapeshifter series. So the premises are good, I hope to see confirmed them in the future books.

The Wedding Party by J.J. Massa

More I read an author, more I think to be able to know him/her. J.J. Massa likes the alpha/omega couple, both in physic than in behavior. Here we have Ben, a shy personal assistant who is still surprise to being invited to his boss' wedding, and Grier, the best friend of the groom. Grier is an older and wealthy business man, strong and self conscious. When he sees little Ben, he thinks to have found a way to spend leisurely time till the wedding. All the wedding party will last a week in a beach house and Grier manages to share a room with Ben and starts his seduction.

Ben has never had same sex experiences before and plus he is a little intimidated by the strong personality of Grier, but he is tempted, and in the end he willingly accepts to be seduced. But nor Ben or Grier could imagine that what they find and feel will be not a fling and that both of them want to explore more their relationship. Now they have only to find a way to share also their feeling after sharing so well their bodies.

The story is a sip, less then 25 pages, but it's good and complete. I like a lot the seduction play of Grier and Ben is so cute and shy, he is like a virgin maid at her first experience with a well-lived man. Fortunately Grier is a good man, even if a bit of a rake, and he will not ravish and abandon Ben like a rake would do.

Very satisfying and short reading.
