In memory of Suzanne Barclay

Carol Backus, known to readers as Suzanne Barclay, one of Harlequin Historicals best selling authors, passed away on September 15, 1999 after battling cancer for seven months.

Suzanne Barclay wrote more than a dozen books for Harlequin Historical as well as one for Silhouette Intimate Moments. Her historicals were set in the medieval period, and she was known for her meticulous research. Hardly a month goes by that she is not on someones Recommended Reads list. Her fans fell first for her work, and then, if they were lucky enough to meet her at one of the numerous conferences she attended, knew her as a friend. (Romantic Times Reviewer, Debbie Richardson)

In memory of Elinor Glyn

Elinor Glyn (October 17, 1864 - September 23, 1943), born Elinor Sutherland, was a British novelist and scriptwriter who pioneered mass-market women's erotic fiction. She coined the use of It as a euphemism for sex appeal.

She was considered an authority on style and breeding when she worked in Hollywood in the 1920s. She had a long lasting affair between 1906 and 1916 with George Nathaniel Curzon, 1st Marquess Curzon of Kedleston.

On the strength of the popularity and notoriety of her books, Glyn moved to Hollywood to work in the movie industry. She is credited with the re-styling of Gloria Swanson from giggly starlet to elegant star. Apart from being a scriptwriter for the silent movie industry she had a brief career as one of the earliest female directors.

In his Autobiography Mark Twain describes the time he met Glyn when they had a wide-ranging and frank discussion of "nature's laws" and other matters not to be repeated.

I'm on leave

If you wonder why I post all at once, here is the answer: I will be on leave for the next two weeks and I don't know if I will have the chance to be online meanwhile (I hope so...).

I'm tempted to not abandon you and post my men candy and all my other appointments (even if I know that ALL of you are interested only in my men...), but I think it would be better if not. I think that, if I will have the chance to be online, I will post about my California trip and about YAOI CON.

I don't think I will have the time to read :-) so no reviews for the next two weeks... sorry, I will make up for the lost time!

Don't forget me (I'm always amazed when I see the stats on this LJ and see how many you are...) and if you want leave comments, I will try to answer as soon as possible. If not, we will see on October 1.
