Only One Regret by Ali Katz

Daniel and Ramon are apparently an happy couple but it's not all the true. Ramon is very jealous of Daniel and he has his reason, at the beginning of their relationship Daniel was not the most faithful of the men. Daniel had a bad past experience who left his heart empty but still incapable to fill it with another love. Probably when he started the relationship with Ramon he didn't believe that the man could be the one who would fill the void, but he is now starting to love again.

But just when he realizes that Ramon could be that man, a ghost from the past reappears, and in this case is not a metaphor: Melanie, the woman his past lover felt in love, and the reason for which Daniel left him, is making an audition for entering Daniel's rock band, but he is not alone. With her arrives also Josh's ghost, his past lover, and the ghost seems to have some unfinished business with Daniel.

There are three characters in this book, Ramon, Daniel and Josh, and the one who probably should have the lesser role, is the one who arises better. Ramon, the new man, the one who hasn't a past history with Daniel, the one who apparently doesn't understand Daniel's hidden needs, is the most interesting character. Usually I don't like a jealous man, but Ramon is a Latin man, and it's in his nature to be jealous, and than he has his reason to be. Despite the way Daniel treated him, and continues to treat him, Ramon never holds a grudge to the man, and he is always there to protect and love him.

Daniel, even if he is the main character, is a bit downtone. We understand that he has some unfinished issues, something that he still hasn't cleared with Ramon, but he doesn't speak, he doesn't express his real feelings. It's hard to say if I really like him, probably he is not yet arrived to a balance, and he is somewhat an incomplete character.

Finally there is Josh. Josh needs something, it's not clear if he needs it from Melanie, his wife, of from Daniel, his former lover... maybe from both. Josh is a very protective man, maybe also a bit egoist, and he would like to have all around him, grieving for him. But all in all he is not so selfish and I liked very much that he didn't underestimate Ramon's love for Daniel, something that neither Daniel did.

This is not a perfect book, but giving that it's my first experience with this author, I found it pretty interesting.

Worth the Work by B.A. Tortuga

Who said that an hero should always be perfect, self-confident and infallible? Real life is not in this way, and in this book both heroes fail, in a way or in another.

Chance is a photographer; he always felt the itch to moving in the past, and for that itch he left behind Kit, his lover. From the same small town, practically grown together, despite their love Chance chose to leave to discover the world and Kit to remain, to farm the land and build something solid for the future. But they don't lose their love, and Chance writes a letter every month to Kit, always asking him to visit, always knowing that Kit will not come.

But this time Kit arrives to his front door. He is a broken man, and he is searching the warm embrace of his lover. He has lost his ranch and home to the bank, and he has nothing if not the love for Chance. He is not begging for money, he only wants to feel good again, and this means be with Chance. The tables are turning, Kit who was the steady and firm part of the couple, is now the one in need of help, and Chance is more than happy to give it. But it's not yet time for them to be happy...

I like this little story, less than 40 story. It's tender and sexy, but it's above all real. Kit and Chance are two men who can be great together but that, at the same time, risk to be apart forever. There is not declaration of eternal love, there is not bitter feeling for one who went away, there are only two men who know each other and who know when to catch and when to let go. They are both very proud and very stubborn, but the love is stronger.

Man Candy Day: Ryan Barry

Here is an example of a man almost too perfect to be real. Ryan has beautiful eyes, a beautiful body, beautiful hair... he is so beautiful that reminds me a china doll. But what made me choose him as Man Candy is that he is real and as a real man he loves, suffers and makes mistakes (or maybe his lover made them, I don't know...).

Ryan has dedicated his life to physical, spiritual, and mental fitness. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate in neuropsychology from UC Irvine and a PhD candidate at Cambridge University (England), he also trained for the Olympics in gymnastics, a sport in which he earned over 50 state, regional, and national titles. Ryan has been involved in the fitness industry for over 20 years.

Ryan is cover model for DNA's Travel Issue 2008. Along with this success, Ryan was just named the new "body" of Armani Exchange Underwear.

Ryan is currently dating Reichen Lehmkuhl. The couple had a widely-publicized falling out a few months ago but have clearly patched things up. During the Love and Pride Commitment Ceremony in June 2008, Reichen said: "We're doing OK. We're happy to be here. We're not getting married today but we're really happy for those that can." Ryan added: "I say ditto."
