Johnny Wager has been a loser all his life and proud of it. But when a West Hollywood twink ends up dead in a hotel room with Wager literally holding the bag, he knows his life is going to change for the worse. Pursued by the West Hollywood sheriffs for a murder he knows he didn't commit, Wager has to stay one step ahead of them and prove his innocence. It doesn't help matters any that his own son, Mark Wager, is a deputy sheriff who has joined the manhunt and has more reason than anyone to find the father who failed him all his life and bring him to justice.

Add Hyacinth, a six-foot-five drag queen from New Orleans, Taz, her Puerto Rican boyfriend, an ex-Marine porno filmmaker and his incontinent Basset Hound Columbo, and the Armenian mob chasing them all through the streets of Los Angeles and the art walks and canals of Venice Beach. Wager pursues his own answers to the question of who is trying to kill him in the sleazy bars and back alleys of Hollywood all the way to Cathedral City.

Can Wager stop the killers and reconcile with his son or will he end up being the next victim? Betrayed by friends, beset by his own conscience that has come back late in life with a vengeance, and the need to redeem himself, he battles the ruthless mob in the only way he knows how: with cunning and a total disrespect for the law.

A Different Light Event: Book Signing & Reading w/ Robert Julian

In But the Show Went On, (the prequel to his best-selling memoir, Postcards from Palm Springs) author Robert Julian revisits 17 essays, interviews, and feature stories he created for the San Francisco Sentinel over 20 years ago. Each entry is illuminated by a new backstory that provides a perspective only made possible by the passage of time. With the same take-no-prisoners attitude that propelled thousands of readers through Postcards from Palm Springs in one sitting, Robert Julian once again establishes the value of a smart mouth, sharp eye, and snappy rejoinder.

Amazon: But the Show Went On

Robert Julian moved from Detroit to San Francisco after finishing graduate school in 1974. He was one of the first actors at Theater Rhinoceros, the nation’s oldest gay/lesbian theater company. In the mid-1980s, Julian began working as a freelance journalist, first as a columnist and entertainment features writer for the San Francisco Sentinel. He later served as entertainment editor and film critic for the Bay Area Reporter. Julian is the author of hundreds of articles that have appeared in publications like The Advocate, Christopher Street, SF Weekly, LA Weekly, Frontiers, and Palm Springs Life. In 1994, he was the co-author and co-photographer (with Patrick McGrew) of Landmarks of Los Angeles.

After becoming a full-time Palm Springs resident in January, 2006, Julian immediately began work on his memoir, Postcards from Palm Springs. It appeared in late 2007 and became a succés de scandale. The book was featured in magazines and newspapers like the Los Angeles Times, the Desert Sun, Instinct, the Bottom Line, and In magazine and the author was a guest on many television and radio talk shows.

In But the Show Went On - San Francisco 1987-1988, the prequel to Postcards from Palm Springs, the author establishes how he came to be viewed as a 1980s gay male version of Sex and City’s Carrie Bradshaw – a decade before Candace Bushnell penned that successful novel.

Robert Julian is now working on a sequel to Postcards from Palm Springs with the working title: Hollywood or Lust - More Postcards from Palm Springs. When not writing, Robert Julian performs with the Palm Springs improvisational comedy troupe, Joe and Mustard.

Man Candy Day: Alex Loomans, Bastiaan Ninaber & Tristan Knights

Today I'd like to feature an editorial I liked very much. One of the model in it, Nils Butler, I already featured in the past (http://elisa-rolle.livejournal.com/657364.html), and another one, Alex Loomans, is a rising star in the fashion business. Danish guys Bastiaan and Tristan (what a pair of names, they seem out of a novel), are not yet in the stardoom, and so I haven't found so many info about them, but I think that we will hear these two names in the future.

In V Man Magazine, “True to Form” editorial by Willy Vanderperre shows us four male models, Alex Loomans, Nils Butler, Bastiaan Ninaber and Tristan Knight in typical pin up poses of the ’50.

Alex Loomans

True to Form by Willy Vanderperre )

Born in Burlington, Toronto, Canada, in 1990, Alex Loomans now lives in New York City. Alex started his career in 2006 when he signed up with Public Image Worldwide, one of the formidable men’s agencies in the industry. In April of 2007, Alex hit it big when he was chosen to be the new official face of Polo Ralph Lauren, an epitome of sophistication, class and taste –something that his face, body and allure exudes naturally not only through his ads and photos but in person as well. The model stayed with the label for another season, posing for the great American photographer and occasional filmmaker Bruce Webber. In another career move, he switched agency and signed with DNA New York. From there, he Alex Loomans made some major appearances in the runways and fashion editorials.

Alex Loomans by Tom Allen

Alex Loomans )

In the fall 2008 issue of Sir magazine, Alex Loomans was captured in several delicious poses by the lens of Geoff Barrenger, one of the most influential Canadian photographers today. Loomans became known for his well-sculptured bod, mesmerizing blue eyes and a chameleon-like projection. Alex Loomans once again proved his photographic charisma in the October issue of Hercules mag for its Leisure Class editorial, where he was splendid-looking in lounge wear and boxers – a perfect figure amidst towering mountain ranges. For Russian GQ, he was photographed by fellow Canadian Walter Chin in a colorful editorial featuring a very poised and subdued Loomans. Going naughty again this time, he appeared in V Man in its spring/summer 2009 issue in very risqué poses proudly exhibiting toned muscles and a lithe physique. This editorial was captured by Belgian photographer Willy Vanderperre in fantastic black and white properly exposing the models almost to the skin. In GQ Style Germany spring/summer 2009 issue, he posed in harmless beige shorts and top with other “Boys of Summer” in its playful and tasty cover. He spent time walking the runways for iconic designers and labels like DSquared2, Galliano, Cavalli and Alexander McQueen and is also active in Fashion Weeks in Europe and New York. Currently, Alex Loomans is still modeling for Ralph Lauren and is the poster boy for Barbour, the classic British outdoor clothing company. Loomans also just recently modeled for the Calvin Klein Spring 2010, John Galiano Fall/Winter 2009-2010. His agencies are namely, FM Agency London, Kult Agency Paris, Beatrice Milan, Success Paris, Unique Denmark Copenhagen, Chosen Chicago and DNA New York. Aside from the tidbit that he loves to ski and snowboard, little is known about his personal life.

Bastiaan Ninaber Van Eijben, born 24 December 1988 at Numansdorp, Holland (nice Christmas gift, isn’t he?), works with FM Models (London), Bananas (Paris), Request (NY), D'Men (Milan), Tony Jones Model Management (Amsterdam). He is actually rakend 38 in the Top 50 Male Models list by Models.com.

Bastiaan Ninaber )

The unconventional yet timeless appeal of the Dutch has reached a crescendo this season. Fans of Bastiaan's extraordinary beauty gets a double jolt this season with his appearance in the painterly Cerruti campaign by Willy Vanderperre and on the cover of the first L'Officiel Hommes Italia by Milan Vukmirovic. His recent show season, walking for Cerruti, Prada, Ferragamo, Trussardi, Hugo Boss and Dries Van Noten attest to his appeal on the catwalk as well, scoring a perfect trifecta for the Dutchman in the booking wars for the best editorial/advertising/runway work.

Tristan Knights works with Bananas (Paris) and Max Models. Other than in V Man Magazine editorial, True to Form by Willy Vanderperre, Tristan is also in Arena Homme + Magazine editorial, A Young Man of Extraordinary Personal Beauty, always by Vanderperre.
