Not completely back, but almost

First of all thank you to all people who left a wish me luck comment. I appreciated all of them.

Yes, I know, am I back one day before? not exactly, I'm still in hospital, the surgery went all right, but my blood values are not good, so they are not lettting me go at least until Monday.

I have nothing to do if not reading and reading, and so I asked to bring me my laptop. I will post something, but mostly I will check only the email.

Thank you again for all the support and good words.

Reckless Passion by Amanda Young

Already before, when I read Cody’s story, his uncle Beau was a very interesting character. A BDSM private club owner who at work has a passion for twinky boy but then at home behaves like an old spinster with his young nephew, pretending for him to remain a “virgin” till the moment he meets Mr Right.

Now that Cody has met that Mr Right, even if he is not exactly the man Beau would have chosen for the boy, Beau misses family, Cody was for him that family, he probably didn’t need to find a Mr Right for himself since he already had a family made and ready.

It’s not long that Cody went out to college that Beau finds a “substitute”, his private assistant Adam. Young and pretty, he is the perfect man for Beau, and he is also available at every hour, filling to void left by Cody. From a professional to a personal relationship the step is brief.

Adam is a strange character: he is at the same time “innocent” and “lived”. He has a son, a “mistake” from when he was still a teenager, but now he loves him with all his heart. And he is a newbie to same-sex relationship: I didn’t understand for sure, but I had the impression that Beau is his first man. Adam is always available for Beau, but only till the moment his son doesn’t need him. Then, his first priority is Johnny. Adam is lucky enough that Beau, instead of being scared at the prospect of a family, considers it a bonus.

As always when in the story there is a child, the feeling is more sweet than sexy, a nice contrast to the previous two books in this series, Cody’s story, that were quite on the naughty side.

Ockham’s Razor by Alan Michael Williams

Even if it’s not clearly stated, I think that Micah, the Mormon boy who believes in the Ockham’s Razor theory, has a lot in common with his author, Alan Michael Williams, the Mormon boy who still likes religious study.

Micah is 21 years old and living alone; he was raised as Mormon by his mother, but his father was not, and already this caused him trouble inside the Church. When then he realized to be gay, it was a reason more to leave that faith. From that moment on, Micah tried in every way to find a plausible reason to be gay, he needed that, and he has never discarded any theory, he is almost obsessed in analyzing every one of them.

So, when he meets 17 years old Brendan, Mormon and gay, for him it’s joy and pain: he thinks Brendan can understand him, that they can walk a path together, towards the truth and far from the Church; problem is that Brendan has no intention of leaving the Church, au contraire, he is searching with all his own to find a way to stay inside the Church being gay.

As you can see, this is not a light book, sometime it felt almost like an essay on troubled adolescent. Sometime Brendan and Micah felt too small for the words in their mouths, but then, I thought, maybe they were the picture of the author, of what he went through, of who he became. Maybe, I thought, Brendan is the young author, when he still felt that to be part of something real he had to be part of the Church, and Micah is his older one, the one who understood that he can “be” without “being part of”. The author match made his two sides to find a way in the middle, he wrote the book to understand if he chose the right path.

There is a love story, and there are also some pretty intense sex scenes, but it’s more important the journey than the goal. As often when religion clashes with a not ordinary reality, the journey is not simple, it’s often sad, and the goal is not always perfect. But being Brendan and Micah so young, and also the author, maybe the journey is not yet ended and the goal can still change.
