When Elizabeth St John is asked by her father, King Vincent, to govern the duchy of Manusk, she knows she's not in for an easy time. It's a dark place ridden with corruption and thieves holding the honest people at ransom. What she doesn't expect is to find an unmanned trader tied up at the docks and ship-wreck survivors on the beach. To make matters worse, neither one are from the King's Heartland's duchies. Who is the young maiden the survivors are protecting? Why is the ship in the harbor and where are her sailors? Elizabeth struggles to find answers to these questions as the threat of war with marauding, neighboring armies looms ever larger and her fate is left in the hands of the mysterious maiden.

This story was an absolute joy to read. The Duchess of Manusk is what all historical fiction should espouse to be; rich, sweepingly epic, full of both stunning heights and painful lows. The pacing was smooth, the manner engaging. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical fiction, and demand anyone who enjoys historical romance set in medieval times read it.

I love a good historical. I'm a huge history nerd. So because the author introduces a sort of historical feel to the book with the clothing, means of transportation, titles, weaponry, etc. I read this book with an eye sort of turned toward certain historical elements; giving leeway to the fact that this was still a fantasy novel, therefore, anything was literally possible. There were moments when the spelling, speech, and dialogue were incorrect or changed/switched from one part to another, but in spite of that, this story, filled with non-stop action, adventure, survival, strength, endurance, courage, intrigue, trust, betrayal, friendship, loyalty, and love was simply brilliant. The actual plot in and of itself was delightfully refreshing, and certain elements of it were heart-wrenchingly emotional. I was very invested in the characters and the plot, and though there were times when I was lost when it came to the setting, it was still beautifully described. The entire book was amazing and I am so glad I read it twice.

An extraordinary story of shared lives.

This was an incredibly good story. I will be looking for more from this author to read in the future.

The story of growing up and coming of age of a young adult. Not every family is ideal and sometimes you have to do the best you can with what you have.

After enduring a soul-crushing loss, Professor Lexy Strayer might be ready to love again. But she’s determined that when she takes that step it won't be with one of her students. Anna Stevens, back in the classroom after ten years away, is interested, interesting and oh so appealing, but when she makes a tentative advance, Lexy rebuffs her. Not with a student.

Jennifer Gardiner has no such scruples. She teaches in the English Department too—when she’s not cranking out gory murder mysteries or jumping in bed with anything that has breasts and a pulse. Jennifer would be happy to take her friend’s place with Anna, but for the moment she’s too busy with a new adjunct instructor, the sexy and secretive Andrea Cole, a big fan of Jennifer’s writing...and her other talents.

Lexy’s brain knows exactly what she should do, but her hands haven’t gotten the message. Every nude she sculpts at her weekly art class looks like Anna. Maybe Anna would be willing to give her another chance?

Then Jennifer's exes start to turn up dead in ways that copy her novels. As if things aren't complicated enough…

Another enjoyable read that sucked me into the story…

In a world where intellect and achievement are valued above all else, a young man risks everything to save his brother from a life of slavery. Thrown into a harsh, unyielding world where slaves are treated as less than animals, Sascha struggles to come to terms with everything he knows being ripped away from him, but a life of success could never prepare him for his life as one of the Demoted. Sinking lower and lower, Sascha begins to lose hope, but the whim of a mysterious, wealthy man has the potential to change all that. Cashiel has a dark history that he guards carefully. Between family and business and politics, he rarely has time for a slave, much less a lover. But when he sees a young man who reminds him of the very history he is trying to escape, he makes an impulse decision that he’s not sure whether to regret or not. The slave could expose everything, or he could be the most valuable asset that Cashiel has ever acquired. Cashiel and Sascha share desires, hopes, and a home. Each man is limited by status, hindered by history, and desperate to succeed. The question is, will that be enough?

Usually first person not my cup of tea, but I enjoyed the story.

Sascha’s world changed when Cashiel Michaud bought him, rescuing him from a brothel and a life of torture. They developed a sexual relationship, but can their relationship amount to more than that? Deceit, lies, and political scandal color not only their world, but their relationship, and dark figures from both men’s pasts threaten to intrude on the few moments of peace they have. A slave is never safe from harm, nor is an outcast family member. In the end, are Sascha and Cash strong enough to face the challenges, or will they be torn apart forever?
