Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: When the Stars Sang by Caren J. Werlinger

When the Stars Sang

"Absolutely loved this one. Quirky romance in a quirky setting. Loved the Island and the characters I met especially Blossom. Was completely drawn into getting to know both of the MC’s and their journey’s. This is not the first but definitely my favorite from this author. She has honed her storytelling and made it an art!"

"Heartwarming. Great characterizations and delightful storytelling here."

"This story has all the feels! I will remember this book for a long time (had a book hangover when I was done). It’s not a short read but it was very touching and engaging. Great characters. Very realistic and relateable."

Nearly twenty-five years ago, Kathleen Halloran’s brother drowned during the last summer they ever spent with their grandmother on a remote island off Maine’s coast. Like a siren’s call she can’t resist, Kathleen is pulled back to Little Sister Island. She leaves her job and her girlfriend, packs up her few belongings, and moves into her grandmother’s cottage.

Molly Cooper loves life on Little Sister, where the islanders take care of their own. Kathleen Halloran doesn’t belong here, and her arrival stirs up unwelcome memories for the islanders—including Molly’s brother. Molly is certain Kathleen will pack up at the first big blow. When she doesn’t, Molly begins to see maybe there’s more to Kathleen than she thought.

Sometimes, before you can move forward, you have to look back.

Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: Risking It All by Morningstar Ashley

Risking It All (A Begin Again Novel Book 2)

"I got sucked into the lives of Danny and Jaden. They equally broke my heart and made me love them as I lived their lives with them. I actually wished the book was longer."

"I liked the story. Great premise and likeable characters."

What was once a promising future has quickly become a frightening and unknown reality. After months of dealing with the fall out on his own, he decided getting away--or more realistically, running away--to White Acre and his best friend sounded like the perfect plan.

Danny Keegan is a laid-back man with simple tastes and an even simpler life. He adores the little town of White Acre where he grew up, he loves his parents, and he enjoys his uncomplicated life. He’s always told himself the fact that he’s a closeted gay man in a conservative, parochial town wasn’t an issue and coming out of the closet wasn’t necessary. But with the addition of Jaden in his life he realizes as happy as he is, he could be happier and the future of a love of his own doesn't seem so out of grasp as it always had.

When Jaden and Danny meet, their chemistry is undeniable but playful flirting doesn't mean anything. They start spending all their free time together, and what started as a simple friendship quickly turns into something much more than either saw coming. But, Jaden carries a secret that could end it all before it even begins. And though Jaden is scared to tell the truth and risk everything that has come to mean so much to him, he knows that he can’t go on without laying himself bare, leaving Danny with an important, life changing choice to make. His content little life or what could be the love of his life.

Will Jaden’s truth be too much for Danny, or will Danny decide a life out in the open, full of love, laughter, and passion is worth risking it all?

Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: The Congressman's Whore by Clancy Nacht & Thursday Euclid

The Congressman's Whore: A Marriage of Convenience

"I enjoyed this book very much. It was angsty and full of drama and intrigue. Had good flow. The characters were realistic and relatable. Great storyline."

Congressman Upton Bennett isn't looking to be anyone's slave, but there are sides to himself he's never explored. When he hears about mysterious sex worker Zane Sawyer—a man who specializes in administering discipline to his clients—Upton can't resist the urge to reach out.

Sloan McInnis—better known in key D.C. circles as Zane Sawyer—is just a Georgetown student trying to parlay his charm and linguistic skills into a career as a lobbyist. His sex work pays tuition, but it doesn't define him... At least, it doesn't until the day a reporter catches him leaving Upton Bennett's hotel room.

Outed as a whore to the Washington elite, Sloan's life isn't worth a dime. His influential Johns want him permanently hushed up, except for one. Powerful fixer Candace Bennett—Upton's mother—has an idea to save Sloan and her son's reputation with a simple lie: It wasn't prostitution; they're in love.

Soon a wedding is planned, one that will ensure Sloan's untouchable and Upton's re-electable. But what will marriage mean for two men who barely know each other? And will Sloan ever become more than a congressman's whore?
