My Pet Bat by Jade

High school senior Min-kyum has been left to his own defenses after his parents kicked him out of their lives. His new house is in a shabby neighborhood, the site of several mysterious assaults that have left victims with bite marks on their necks and blood loss symptoms. After moving in, Min-kyum heads out for a meal…then somehow wakes up at home with strange marks on his neck. He tries to shrug it off, but his deskmate at the new school looks suspiciously pale and familiar…

I have to admit that vampire stories are an hit and miss with me, they need to be particularly original for me to like them. My Pet Bat is a mix of cute and drama, but it never edges on tragedy, so that it makes the perfect blend for me. The graphic is nice, even if at first I found disconcerting that sometime the panels were not in full color, but that was something you get used soon and then you can appreciate the story. I liked that the vampires in this story are not invincible human beings and actually they can be pretty fragile. I also liked they are not the usual solitary character who focused on their own partner like there is nothing else around. Here the vampire is a high school student, with all the insecurity of an ordinary teenager boy. Of course the best character is
Min-kyum and is heart, open and naive, despite all the trauma in his life. He is still able to accept love, even if he makes some mistakes while searching for it.
