A new definition of Spam

Sending an email to 20 authors (ONLY 20) to alert them they are in my Top 10 Book List for the month of April is spam... good to know, and good to know who I have to remove from my contact list.

And no, don't try to go and see all the authors in that post to imagine who she was, since I have not only promptly removed her from the list, I have also removed her from my flist, and if in the future she will try to contact me, I will be sure to remember that name.

Now I don't pretend to be thanked for every post I do, but to reply to a kindness with a slap in the face, it was not really the best of replies. And btw her books are not even that good (maybe that is the reason why I read only 1?)

ETA: the kind author of above replied to me "I don't pay attention to that stuff. The only ones I read are the real review sites my publishers send to. If I read every "review" from anyone who has a blog with an opinion I'd spend days just doing that...".

Ok, maybe I'm not a real review site, but kind author YOUR TWO PUBLISHERS send me your books to review, not the viceversa, even if now I will know for whom I have not to waste my time. And yes, my ego is pretty big, never denied that, so maybe kind author, you should remember than not so far long ago, on a symposium on marketing ebooks (and not M/M ebooks, ebooks in general) someone said "Elisa is the world’s foremost eBook reviewer. Get a good eBook review from her and you are golden." But problably she doesn't need that kind of advertisement.

or a very bad day maybe, but I will try to forget her and her books

well, if you don't buy that type of books, she writes in a specific subgenre, you cannot know her, otherwise J.F. sometime writing with a co-author, I think this is enough to identify her.

that was, ok, you have a bad day a replied to me with the spam comment, but when I told you, look, I was only alerting you of a good thing, she replied with "I don't pay attention to that stuff. The only ones I read are the real review sites my publishers send to. If I read every "review" from anyone who has a blog with an opinion I'd spend days just doing that..."

thank you Lee, probably that comment of spam was more hurting than ever since the email was absolutely everything other than spam, but again, I'm lucky she is one in a crowd

Very good similitudine James. I happened to be curious and went to read the other reviews of her books on Amazon (not that they are completely trustworthy but still), and she has a lot of low rated reviews from the same reviewers... I wondered if she didn't pissed off someone else other than me. But in any case my reply will be (other than this post) simply to not ever reading another book from her.

I think we can all agree that we're lucky she's one in a crowd. Stay strong, Elisa!

O.O *speechless*

[identity profile] devonrhodes.livejournal.com 2011-04-02 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, maybe not completely speechless. I know you are on MY three publishers' list of review sites they submit to, including the one I edit for, and I believe you said above that hers (different ones than mine) send you their authors' books as well. So that's at least five publishers seeking YOU out. You are much more in this industry than "a blog". Hugs, me

Yeah, it's one of my favourite topics when I need to rant. :) I mean, seriously, does being nice to people *cost* anything?

[identity profile] elisa-rolle.livejournal.com 2011-04-02 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
If we want to count ;-) I'm on the official reviewers list for more than 40 publishers (lucky me some of them publish only few books per year), but still. And among them there are 2 that are listed among the top 6 New York publishers (and not only for the LGBT field). And yes 2 of her 3 publishers send me books to review, and both of them asked me not viceversa.

apparently kindness is a rare virtue

There's never any excuse for rudeness, whether she follows blog reviews or not. All I can say is, it's her loss :(.

*hugs*
