In Bear Country by Kiernan Kelly
Setting in the late '80 years of the nineteen century, In Bear Country is a tale of loneliness and friendship.Pride is a young man, twenty-something years old, who was a soldier during the Independence War, not for an ideal, but only 'cause his father, a preacher, wanted to correct his sinful behaviour: Pride prefers men to women. After 4 years of war and 2 years of captiviness, Pride is a lone wolf, has no family e no home, and during a night, thiefs leave him with only his boots.
Bear is a big man who lives alone in a mountain cabin. His family was slaughtered by a neighbor and Bear, after killing him, has flown away in the moutains where he lives alone, not bothers no one. He is 35 years old, and he has a simple and good life, but when he has the chance to spend some days with Pride, he has to admit that he feels alone, and asks to Pride to stay with him: the matters is, friendship is not the only thing he wants, he wants also love, but he doesn't know how to ask, doesn't know he can love a man.
Pride is smart, smarter than Bear. Bear is a big man, but very simple in his mind: he is like an overgrown child, and a man like Pride could take advantage on him, but fortunately Pride is a good man. Two souls who find love but above all another a soul mate to share life.
