The Apple Pickers by C.B. Potts
This is a sip, a brief story with a little tinge of sadness mixed with jamaican music.Cliff lives in a canadian border small town. He is an outsider, the only black man in towm and he is also gay. Fortunately he has known the only other gay man in town, Mitch; unfortunately he is not attracted by him. But he is very much drawn by the jamaican apple pickers who work in Mitch's orchard.
And one night Mako, a tall and handsome jamaican picker, knocks at his door: it's a dream comes true and Cliff picks up his chance with the picker, even if I don't understand anything Mako says, cheers to C.B. Potts to have decipt the man and also his language in a so realistic manner. But the morning after Cliff has to face the jelaousy of Mitch: for the handsome picker or... for him?
A really enjoyable short story. Cliff is a grown man trapped in a small town with the desires of a grown man and with the opportunity of a teens to get laid: nothing! Mako is an happy to go man, maybe neither gay, but with an open mind regarding sex.
I have to make my compliments to Torquere Press for this Sip series: they are all little treasures.
