In a Wolf’s Eyes by Cassandra Gold
Reed is a young man with some self-consciousness problem. A former fashion model, he had to retire after a bad car accident who left him scarred. More than losing the work, what left him more hurt was the rejection from his boyfriend, a vain man who didn't suffer the sight of his scarred body. To try to forget and to celebrate his new-found independence, Reed goes in an hiking trip, only to get lost in the wood.Ethan is a lonely werewolf. He owns some acres of woods and he usually is content with his life; but for a gay werewolf is not easy to find a companion, and so he lives almost like an hermit. Until he finds a young man wondering in his property... a young gay man. Ethan can't understand why Reed is so shy about his scars, for Ethan they are only a sign of courage.
Reed needs to be accepted and Ethan's loneliness lead to a sweet and easy one night fling in the woods, but the morning after Reed should return to his life: he is only at the beginning of his self-discovery journey and Ethan knows that he needs to let him go.
The story is short, less than 50 pages, but sweet. Maybe a bit too short for how much ingredients the author melts together: Reed former wotk as model who brought him to give so much importance to his look, and his life after losing what was so important; Ethan being gay in a conservative pack; the different life style of the two men, one a city boy and the other a small town guy. Maybe Ethan's decision to reveal his true nature to Reed is a bit too sudden and careless, and also Reed's reaction is too... quite... but well in only 50 pages the author can't spend too much time in then before and after of the story.
An enjoyable reading, I like the romantic mood and the sweet romance in it.
