Guest Blogger for a Day

Francy, blogger of "La mia biblioteca romantica", an Italian Romance Blog, asked me to be her guest blogger for a day with a post on M/M romance.

If you are not bored to listen to me here, then you can amuse yourself reading my experience of alternative reader (sorry it's in Italian, but if you want to ask what I said, I can translate the part you are interested in...):

Fortune's Return by Jamie Craig

Ryan is a math teacher without a school. He was dismissed from his last work since there was a staff cut. After this, his lover since eight years dumped him cause they have incompatible aspirations: means that John, the ex, wants a more successful man as a lover and wants to move in a bigger city, and Ryan instead wants a family and remains near his native ranch.

Without a work and an home, he moves on that ranch: Clay, his brother, lives there with his family and he also engaged a ranch hand, Teo, a single father; him and Tony, his son, could be the family Ryan wants, and when he discovers that Teo is bisexual (even if monogamous), Ryan thinks to have found the perfect man. Teo is a solid and quite man, all work and family; he is gentle and caring, he works hard and loves harder. But he is also a man who pretends a lot from his lover and a stupid mistake by Ryan can ruin everything.

The book is pretty long and flows smoothly. There aren't many bitter surprises or sudden events, all the story is more on the characters than the plot. And the characters are simple men, earth men like the setting of the story: a ranch, a small town, family interiors.

Ryan is open and ready to love. He is not a man with great expectations, he only wants a good man beside him. He probably would be still with his former lover, even if he probably didn't love him so much, if not for the man who dumped him: Ryan likes the passion and the sex, but he values more a steady relationship and the comfort of a mate.

Teo is a good father. First of all he is a father. And he also values a lot friendship and honor. He likes Ryan, but he fears the man only wants a rebounding man, and Teo is not for casual relationship: he can afford it, with a son to raise, and he also doesn't have time to waste.

As I said the story is simple but good. It left me a sense of warm and comfort. It's not a fast-paced plot, it's more a slow and quite tale, probably like the ranch life it decipts. If you like this setting, you will like this story.

Dragon's Delight by Willa Okati

In a post apocalyptic world, Collin is alone: he lost his only friend and wanna-to-be lover even before they can give a chance to their relationship. Nyas is missing in action and now Collin has to convince himself that he has no more hope to see again his beloved. Soon after quited his heart he is kidnapped by Zacharei, a dragon, who brings him in the Dragon lands and in the arms of Avalier, a big dragon with a gentle soul. Avalier was injured in battle and his minds is no more still functioning: he forgets things and he needs assurance. But once he was again at home, he discovered that his human pet, Ka-lyn, went away and no one knows where he is now.

Collin is very similar to Ka-lyn, also their names are similar, and Zacharei mistook him for the other man. Also Avalier thinks he is Ka-lyn, and since the dragon his very similar to his lost lover Nyas, Collin thinks to assume the new identity of Avalier lost lover.

Collin is a romantic, a man who has seen too much and suffer a lot of things, but still he believes in true love and he is able to recognize a noble soul when he meets Avalier. Collin deserves to love again, I'm only a little sad he can't realize his dream with Nyas.

Avalier is a tought but simple dragon. Yes, he has some problems, he has strong reactions, but he is not dangerous: he is too good inside to be dangerous.

The story is very short, less than 60 pages, but it's very romantic. I almost wept while reading of Collin mourning for Nyas, and soon after I was smiling, reading the reaction of Collin to Avalier. The story is an up and down of feeling, and it's truly sweet. I only hope to read more on this series, at its second chapter, and I hope that Willa Okati is thinking to write also of Nyas, maybe giving him another dragon lover, since now Collin is taken by Avalier.

"Fantastic" discovery

You know yes that I'm a freak for booklists and old covers... one of my favourite sites to search info is an English site, Fantastic Fiction. It has a lot of booklist, also of old authors, and a lot of covers, most of the time in big format. And it's free, that is even better. One fault, it consider only print books.

It's very detailed for romance authors, and also for sci-fic and other genre. Till now I haven't found a M/M romance author listed... till now, since tonight, guess who I found?

http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/b/ally-blue/

Congrats Ally, you are a pioneer!

I don't know if there is a formal way to ask to be listed, but I know that this is a site very popular in Europe, especially in Italy, among the romance readers, and so, if some of my friend authors are searching a way to be "found" from wandering reader on the net this is a good one. DO you want to leave Ally all alone there? Guess not!
