Catch a Falling Star by Réve Garrison

Cristian is a graduate student who is still starving in a small apartment with dead end jobs. For Christmas he works as salesman in a big department store, trying to avoid the unwelcomed attention of the store manager. But when he falls from a ladder in the middle of the store destroying a lot of Christmas lights, the manager doesn't think two to fire him, even if the customer who caused the accident tried to defend him.

Logan, the customer, is so sorry for what happened that brings Cristian to lunch and meanwhile listens to all the young man's trouble. And so he offers him a two days job to decor his huge mansion. When the two are alone together, Logan realizes that he would be happy for the young man, not only to decor his home for the Christmas season, but also to fullfil it all the year.

All right, this is a nice sweet romance (no sex, merely a kiss) that can only happen at Christmas or in a Cinderfella tale: how many chances you have to find a wealthy and kind Prince Charming in a department store? please if there is an aisle for them, signal it in big letters! Joke apart, the story is nice, tender and heartwarming. A bit naivee on Cristian's side, he is so innocent that sometime he is almost too much to be true, and Logan is maybe a bit to perfect, too much Prince Charming alike, but all in all this is a Christmas romance, and so miracles happen.

In the Spotlight: Christopher Rice

The Book: Take the sensuous, fecund New Orleans setting, add a generous helping of tangled Southern family history, and season liberally with a sensitive teenage boy rejected by his friends and frightened of his own homoerotic impulses and you wouldn't be surprised to discover that the novel containing all of the above was written by someone named Rice. But a few paragraphs into the first page, it's clear that Anne Rice's son's first novel isn't about vampires or witches and does not otherwise read like one of her exceedingly popular books. The only family resemblance is in the setting, the sexual orientation of the lovingly described male characters, and the scent of overripe magnolias. There's murder, suicide, and madness at the heart of this rather clumsycoming-of-age story, which focuses on the youthful friendship of Stephen Conlin, Meredith Ducote, Greg Darby, and Brandon Charbonnet. This friendship is destroyed by a sexual incident that takes place just before the foursome enters Cannon, an exclusive prep school. There, Stephen is ostracized by his former friends, now the most popular kids on campus, who'd just as soon forget their own complicity in the event. Envy, passion, and rage drive the narrative, but the emotions are as juvenile as the characters, and the long passages depicting the rituals and cruelties of high school, from pep rallies to football games, slow down the pace without really illuminating character or motivation. The novel reads like a roman +á clef. Rice might have been wiser to tell someone else's story rather than his own. (Jane Adams)

Christmas Tail by D.J. Manly

A nice little naughty Christmas tale. Santa Claus is married, but his wife's relatives didn't approve their marriage, and so when a distant aunt of his wife writes a Dear Santa letter to ask Santa Claus to help her nephew, Santa Claus can't refuse. Brian, the nephew, was illused and dumped by Logan, a very handsome man who seems unable to say no to a nice body and a smile; trouble is that Logan is man for all and fidelity is not is strong point. And so Santa Claus decides to kidnap him and to force him to work in the Santa Claus' factory for some weeks: in Christmas land among all the elves, Logan for sure will not have chance to be a naughty boy... or not? Christmas land reveals to be almost a paradise for Logan, with more than willing elves who taste like candy when, well, Logan tastes them. But what Logan is not expecting is to fall in love for real. Julius is a musician, hired from Santa Claus to write a love song for his wife.

There is nothing serious in this Christmas tale, it's a naughty way to read Santa Claus legend and the two main characters are for sure two naughty boys: Logan is not a bad guy, he is only a playboy; he thinks that, if he is clear from the start and not a liar, people will not suffer. Problem is that Logan is very handsome and people fall in love without hope. Julius on the other hand should be a nice guy, but instead he behaves as a naughty boy behind Santa Claus' shoulder.
