An Ignited Passion (Assassin/Shifter) by Sandrine Gasq-Dion

This is the second book by Sandrine Gasq-Dion I read, and to me it seemed like it was a completely different author. Oh, don’t get me wrong, it’s for sure the same author, the two books are tightly intertwined, but I had the feeling the author was playing a game; being this a double series, Assassin/Shifter, and having first read a book in the Assassin line and then on the Shifter one, my idea is that she is using different style for the different lines. Assassin is more wordly, action packed, international affair; Shifter is more homey, Friday night beer with friends, Sunday barbeque with family.

Preston and Wyatt’s story is about young men/boys; all right, both of them are werewolves, and so this is not your ordinary love story, but truth be told the supernatural nature of both men is not so front stage to overwhelm the plot. Preston met Wyatt when he was 13 years old and Wyatt only 6; for sure it was not the time to claim his mate, and so, with the agreement of Wyatt’s family, he moved in the background, giving the time to Wyatt to become older and doing his own experiences. Unfortunately those experiences lead Wyatt in prison due to a college prank. At this point, Preston, who is now a respected firefighter, assumes the role of Wyatt’s supervisor during his Community service.

As I said, the story between Preston and Wyatt is mostly homey and nice; they meet again as adult, they are both free to enjoy their relationship, there is no obstacles between them, not from their co-workers or from Wyatt’s family, on the contrary, there is only support and good advices.

One thing I noticed is that there is very few woman’s presence in the story; for example, Wyatt’s family is made of 1 father and 4 male brothers, all married to men… I did wonder about this side of the story, but actually the only woman, Olivia, is one of the most positive characters in the story, so I suppose it’s only that the author didn’t plan more women in the story.

A Fox Tail by Eric M. Deal

“Are you a furry? A Fox Tail is unapologetically furry”, I think this question/warning the author chooses to introduce his novel is quite right; Furry romance is not for everyone, and if you are new to the anthropomorphic genre, A Fox Tail can be a cultural shock. I would probably suggest to start with something lighter, and then maybe, if you enjoy this type of romance, giving a try to A Fox Tail.

This is a romance between a fox and a wolf in anthropomorphic bodies, but it borders very much in, as the author uses, unapologetically erotic/porn; since I’m not really into pure erotica, I don’t have many comparisons, but I think this is actually one of those one-hand books I heard about. Now, don’t get me wrong, that is a good thing, if the author manages (and he does that) to arouse you enough that you are uncomfortable to read this book in a room with other people, than I think he reaches his target. The message I want to convey is that, the warning is good and necessary, since reading about sexual adventures between anthropomorphic characters is not for everyone.

Said that, there were points I liked a lot, and some points (maybe only one), that made me a little uncomfortable; I liked a lot that, beneath all his bold fur (pun intended), Polar, a big white wolf, is a teddy bear, the one dreaming of long-term commitment, marriage and even children; he is the one, the first time he is having sex with Vulpie, the little orange fox, that associate the word love to what is happening between them, while maybe Vulpie, at that time, was still considering theirs a one night affair. What made me a little uncomfortable, is that sometime their sexual intercourse borders on pain, with Vulpie actually protesting, I was not really sure if he was doing that for real or if he was playing the game of little fox with big bad wolf.

In the end, I think that Vulpie is really young and everything for him is still a game, even the commitment with Polar, but indeed, that is his fox nature coming out; I hope Polar is strong enough to deal/manage his little fox.
