Behind the Cover: Vittorio Dangelico

Vittorio Dangelico, better known as Vidan, was born in the Italian city of Perugia and attended some of the finest art schools in Italy, including the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Brera.

In 1988 he followed in his uncle's footsteps (Pino Dangelico) and became a much admired book illustrator for some of the world's leading publishers. He worked for Doubleday, Harper-Collins, Harlequin, Zebra Berkley and Ballantine for fifteen years while pursuing his true love – fine art and dedicating his limited time to other projects with Vogue Italia, TV Guide, Snapshots and Mary knoll greeting cards.

His work is distributed by Pino Dangelico's management team. The demand for his fine art is high, and it’s available only from four leading galleries in the USA and the Tavistock Picture Framing Gallery in Britain.

In 2007 Vittorio Dangelico decided to become a “Bergen County boy” with his pied-à-terre, moving into the new Peninsula at City Place condominiums, on the Hudson River in Edgewater.

“I have an uncle and a cousin in Bergen County,” said Mr. Dangelico, “so I know it is easy to go from here to Manhattan for my studio work.” Before beginning a painting — he does realistic renderings of figures, primarily women, he said — he rents space, hires a model, and buys the clothing she will wear, always in Manhattan.
