Around the World: High Line, New York City

Bet many of you didn't know about this new city part in New York City? it's the High Line, a former elevated train path from 10st up to 34st, along the 10th Avenue. More than worthy the walk, it felt like the real New York City.

This was a feature in the National Geographic magazine a few months ago, it looks pretty awesome. If I ever make it to NY, I plan on visiting.

I've heard of it and seen pictures (more now, thanks) but I've never been on it! I must remedy that some day.

In the 1970s and 80s the area around the High Line was seedy, decrepit and dangerous at night but it was still the best place to get a hooker or a transvestite than anywhere else in the city. After a night of prowling Times Square movie theaters I always came down to the area around the High Line, around 16th, 17th Streets which was a sure place to have sex in NYC, plus the erotic gay area of Greenwich Village was very close nearby. I'd walk away happy and pleased, feeling like a new man, glad that the night hadn't been wasted. But the newness of the area, as has happened now, did erase the hooker/trans streets, making them safe for tourists and wealthy new residents. The raunchy sex of the area has been replaced by the boring rich. I think nowadays it's become very dull. Hey, but that's me, glad you at least enjoyed it.

I was there because my brother lives not far from there. There's also a nice restaurant/bar called "The Park" a few blocks away in Chelsea you might like. It's a converted parking garage. I've added it to novels in the past.
