Versatile character actor Charles Laughton, who appeared in such films as Witness for the Prosecution, Mutiny on the Bounty, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, was married for thirty-three years to actress Elsa Lanchester. In 1931 he told her that he was gay. Despite the revelation, the marriage lasted until Laughton's death.
