Roommates by Helen Gabriel
This a very strange but interesting short story, too short for me to have a full comprehension of the characters, but still very intriguing.
Morgan is a big and pretty lonely cop. Even when a child he was an almost hermit, and when he realized to prefer men, that was only one thing more to prevented him to have a normal social life. Since he doesn't seem to be willing to correct this situation, it seems strange that he chose to sub lease his apartment for the summer.
Jasper is an Afro American teacher from Chicago. Having lost his grandmother, his Nana, that grew him, he takes a sabbatical year to think and decide what to do for the rest of his life. A summer in California seems a good way to start. And Morgan is a lovely plus to the room he rent.
Both pretty strong in body, Jasper and Morgan have some emotion issues to overcome. To say that passion flares since the beginning it's not true: they are drawn to each other but before doing the BIG thing, they spend some days to taste the field. The resulting sex scene is very involving and tender.
There are a lot of not said words in this book, the author doesn't spend time to analyze all the reasons for this two men, but maybe it's the strenght of the novel: this is the story of two souls that meet and mate without words if not the really important ones...
