English painter Peter Gluck, portrayed by Romaine Brooks in Peter, A Young English Girl, in 1923 or 24, was born as Hannah Gluckstein to a wealthy and close-knit Jewish family. Gluck had a romantic relationship with the British floral designer Constance Spry (December 5, 1886 – January 3, 1960), whose work informed the artist's paintings. Constance Spry was a famous British educator, florist and author in the mid-20th century.
