Interesting post by Jesse Archer: Is Gay the new Black?

http://jesseonthebrink.blogspot.com/2009/07/is-gay-new-black.html

here is an excerpt:

"Now consider what I learned when I met up with Out Magazine editor-in-chief Aaron Hicklin the following day. He told me how ABC came to them and wanted to put on a same-sex episodes of Dancing with the Stars! They set it all up with out gay stars, filmed it, but then---ABC couldn't handle the apparent scandal of two men foxtrotting (even though they were the ones to initially approach him)...so they re-filmed it all with opposite-sex partners.

Now you can see the gay version online at OUT. And you can presumably see the "regular" version on ABC. What Aaron mentioned next was how it reminded him of how back in the Hollywood heydey, they used to film the same film with all-whites, and then separately with all-blacks"

Handsome Chad Allen proves he has the knack of a natural for the big band favorite, the Foxtrot.

I'm glad this is airing somewhere.

The tango was originally a dance for two men and a chance for them to out-macho one another. it wasn't until the early forties that women were even allowed to dance the tango- I have an Argentine friend who can tell you the entire history of the dance.

So men dancing together in public isn't as new as ABC thinks.

Yes, there are some nice video on youtube of professional tangeros that dance one "against" the other. And also in the Russian culture I believe there are some traditional dance only for men... but it seems that the world instead of go ahead sometime pedales back. Elisa
