California Day 9: Russian Hill, Nob Hill, Pacific Heights & Japantown

Today was devoted to the Queen Anne and Victorian houses. During the morning I was very good, I climbed all the hills alone, without taking the Muni... Russian Hill and Nob Hill were silent (it was Sunday morning...) and with a noble "soul". I even passed through the lane that inspired Maupin and his tales. At midday we visitied one of the few historic houses open to the public, a Queen Anne residence which was saved by the fire of 1906 since it was one street far from the fireline. Then I managed to climb on Lafayette park and see the Danielle Steel's mansion... not that I'm a fan of the author, but she is a very interesting person in many way. The rest of the day was spent hopping here and there with the cable cars, since my feet didn't collaborate anymore...

Tomorrow: San Francisco

How pretty!

Why are they called "Queen Anne" houses, I wonder?

Since they have a fashion style in vogue during the Queen Anne period, beginning of the XVIII century (obviously you know that). But the ones I took the pics are all Victorian, I believe...

Have you been to Little Italy???

I was wondering if you've been to Little Italy (right next to San Francisco's Chinatown) or not yet or if you are planning to.

Because it would be interesting for you to see an ethnic enclave outside of your country.

Ooh, I've been there! Those houses are amazing. Luv the cable cars too (although the hills make for great exercise).

Yes, it was yesterday. If you see the post of yesterday (North Beach) you will see that green building, it was the Zoetrope Building of Francis Ford Coppola. Little Italy in SF is named North Beach. Elisa
