East Coast Day 3: Princeton, Yale & Mystic

Probably I don't know something, but why there were so many people on the road today? I know that tomorrow is Labor Day, but why people were moving today? We spent most of the time in line, especially in and out New York (state not city) and near New Haven... Anyway, in the morning we visited Princeton, and I really like both the University than the forest around. It has the feeling of a little thriving community. Yale University instead is really big, maybe a bit too much for my taste, but the neo gothic architecture is really nice. We arrive at Mystic too late to visit the open air museum of Seaport, but the little town near was still full. We manage to eat in the very kitch but very funny Mystic Pizza place, and that is not an Italian Pizza, but it wasn't bad.

Many people have a 3 or 4 day weekend this weekend because of the holiday. Some of them could have been traveling to get where they need to be tomorrow, but weekends like this, there's always higher traffic in general as people finish up doing touristy things. At least for the Northeast (especially where I am), Labor Day Weekend really is considered the end of tourist season.

Lovely pics!

It's the last long weekend before the end of summer in both the US and Canada, and it's always busy on the roads.

My wife and I married on the last day of July, in Ontario... never realizing that August 1 is also a big civic holiday. We gave a local a good laugh when we asked why the crowds...

Well, at least I manage to reach the place I want to see ;-) Elisa

You have gorgeous photographs elisa! What kind of camera do you have? You should really compile your pictures into a book.

It's a simple Nikon coolpix Kassa, nothing special. I have also a Nikkormat dated 1971 with three different lens, but the photos I do with that one I need to be home to post.

Maybe someday ;-) In the meanwhile, I decided to share my pics here.

Elisa, you really should consider compiling your travel photographs into a book. Your photography is absolutely breathtaking.

Oooh you saw Yale! I bet it was as amazing as it looks like (in movies :P)

[identity profile] elisa-rolle.livejournal.com 2009-09-07 10:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I saw it and it was also freshmen day, so it was full of people. Some part of the campus were closed, you can enter only if you have a badge, but there were some nice places you can visit anyway. Elisa

I've always enjoyed the town of Mystic, as well as Mystic Seaport. Did you get to both?

[identity profile] elisa-rolle.livejournal.com 2009-09-07 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Mystic Seaport was already closed the time we arrived, so I visited only some houses from the outside and then headed toward Mystic. Elisa

I am vicariously enjoying your travels along the East Coast. Your photos are wonderful. You have a great ability to select what is native to a particular city and display it. When you described Philadelphians as kind I smiled. We are not used to hearing others say such nice words.

One of the things about Labor Day holiday is that many people travel home from their vacations on the Sunday before. After Labor Day Monday, all summer fun and games are over, so people try to be home on that last day to cook out and picnic with neighbors, friends and family. Sort of a bittersweet last hurrah for summer.

Thank you. I look more at the details than the whole, I took pictures of what catch my eyes. Many time you can't say what it's LOL. I enjoyed very much Philadelphia and also my friend did. She wants to come back sooner. Elisa
