Man Candy Day: Twins
I prepared this post weeks ago thinking at
jaye_valentine (yes, Jaye, you now are paired in my mind with twins and co.!). And now there is a reason more to post, I think Jaye lives in the New England area, so I don't know if he is near Connecticut or not, but I hope he and his partner are safe and sound. Going back to twins... It's not the first time that fashion plays with the twin imaginery, I already posted about Ricardo & Pedro Guedes, but now, more than ever, they are also playing with the "kinky" factor. BTW, how is it that fashion twins are almost always from Portugal and Spain? Is there in those country a concentration of handsome couplets? First of all, let me introduce you to Jonathan and Kevin Ferreira de Sampaio.

As for th Guedes Twins, they are from Portugal, and as for the previous couplets, where Ricardo remained in the fashion world while Pedro soon retired, I think that Jonathan is the twin who wants to pursue a fashion career and instead Kevin is tagging alone for brotherhood love. 23-year-old, Jonathan and Kevin Ferreira de Sampaio, former physical education students, were spotted at university two years ago by a fashion talent scout and hired by Dolce & Gabbana in 2007.
The pair, who have never looked back since, epitomise the new boy on the catwalks, not the big beefcake type but a man with some muscles and a physique, unlike the chicken-chested undernourished sexually-ambivalent figure all the rage in the early 2000s. "We plan to go back to university soon but for now have work," said one of the brothers, paid anything from a minimum 500 euros (700 dollars) to several thousand for a show, which is way less than women models.
Of the two models, Kevin is the more reserved and emotional. Jonathan is outgoing and even more cautious. It is he who speaks most of the time. Jonathan wanted to be an astronaut, Kevin dreamed of being a magician. However, it was without tricks that they come into fashion, and it has been with their feet firmly on the ground that they have managed a fast and successful career, which has already gained them a Globo de Ouro (Golden Globe, Portugal Fashion Award). A career which neither of them has never dreamed of. Jonathan and Kevin, 23, are children of Portuguese parents, born in Paris and moved in Portugal when they were five years old, more precisely to Felgueiras, a small town where everyone knows each other. They had never thought to go out of there. Moreover, when they started to study Physical Education in Porto, they asked to be transferred in Felgueiras because they did not live in the bustle of a big city. Irony of fate, they soon left for Milan, and there their career began.
Jonathan and Kevin Sampaio were 17 when they were discovered by Central Models. They won the Pantene Hair Contest, but they ventured into the fashion world only at 20. The twins took a vacation to experience an Italian catwalk, a debut for Dolce & Gabbana. The aim was to stay two weeks, and instead they returned only three months and a half later. In Portugal, Dino Alves was the first designer for whom they marched. They flew to Paris, where they spend much of the time for the following two years. In the French capital, they signed an exclusive contract with Dior for a season of catwalks. Versace, Giorgio Armani, Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano, Jean Paul Gaultier and Yves Saint Laurent are on the list of international designers for whom the twins have borrowed their image.

The below interview was translated from Portoguese (Jonathan e Kevin: Talento e sucesso em dose dupla by Cristiana Rodrigues) so sorry if it's "rough":
-For those who began their career in 2007, you have had a very pleasant journey…
Jonathan - Being models was never our goal. When we set our paths, it was not in this direction. We were attending the first year of Physical Education at College, we had to freeze our enrolment, but one day we will resume our studies.
Kevin – We just wanted to try a catwalk as experiment.
Kevin, did you use any trick to get there?
- Kevin - [Laughs] No ... It was a succession of happy events.
Jonathan, living in the fashion world is the same as living on the moon?
Jonathan - [laughs] It’s a completely different world from the one we were accustomed, for many people it is like walking on the moon for a while. I've been doing it with my feet firmly on the ground.
Do you feel to have the potential to win in this world?
Jonathan - If we hadn’t potential, we would not be on centre stage, but we didn’t care much until we get to Milan the first time.
What was your first cachet?
Jonathan - We were 20 years old at the time and early in our life our parents taught us to save money, so we gathered some money for the event and we invested it. We do not spend money on extravagances.
Do you bother you to always work together?
Kevin - On the contrary. If not with my brother, I would not do it alone. I do not identify with this world.
Jonathan - We started together, we will end together…
If you had to describe each other, what would you say?
Jonathan - Kevin is more shy and reserved than me. I am also more outgoing and calculating, in order to achieve a specific plan.
Kevin - Jonathan is a good friend and is very sincere.
Although you are focused on your career, I think you have time to date…
Jonathan - I've had girlfriends, now we have special people ... [laughs]
You deal with many women for whom the physical beauty is essential. That is what attracts you?
Jonathan - A bit, but love does not choose, does it? I am not free to fall in love with a model. Beauty is one factor that stands out, but not all.
Are you harassed by fans?
Jonathan - We have always had fans. [laughs] First, because we are twins, then, because we were handsome, [laughter] but we feel that since when we are models people look more for us. For example, our father has a bookstore in Felgueiras and now when we go there we are noticed by customers who look at us with a certain curiosity.
This should have increased the inflow to the store…
Jonathan - [Laughs] I shall ask to my dad to see if I am entitled to a percentage on the profit…
The Golden Glove you have gained may have contributed to your reputation ...
Jonathan - Enough. For us, we are very proud to have won a Golden Globe, it’s our first prize. With a career so short, nothing better than this trophy.
Short, but certainly it will be long. This year did you work for the second Golden Globe?
Jonathan - We worked a lot. It was a busy year. If we are nominated again, great, and if we go back to win, even better, because then we would have a Globe each…
Plans for 2010?
Kevin - We started the year with shows in Milan and in February we are going in New York, one of the major fashion markets, where we signed a contract with a great agency. It is also a city that has fascinated us since childhood. It seems to me a good omen for the third Golden Globe! Even more than in the above pictures, Bruce Weber plays with the twincest kink in the editorial he did with a new couple of twins in the fashion industry, Juan and Cesar Hortoneda.

The twins of Madrid are 25 years old and statuesque physique, cultivating with any type of sport, practiced also at a professional level: tennis, volleyball, swimming, boxing, other than an engagement in two varsity basketball team. They go on roller skates, but just for fun.
Juan attends the Police Academy and Cesar a School of Mechanical Engineering, but they still have time for fun. House, rock and raggaeton: the twins love music and dancing. And bonfires on the beach with friends.
My last couplet, Toni and Niklas Garrn, are not twins, but they are nevertheless very much alike, so much that, even if they are a girl and a boy, it's quite difficult to part one from the other.
Gender is on the mind of the editors of Tush. Toni Garrn and her brother, Niklas play both sides of the beauty ideal on multiple covers. While Toni is known for her modeling, Niklas is a relatively new face on the scene in spite of the fact that he’s two years older than Toni.
