Kiss the Bride (2007) directed by C. Jay Cox

Director: C. Jay Cox

Writer: Tyler Lieberman (writer)

Genre: Comedy, Romance

Tagline: Guess who's coming out for the wedding?

Plot :In high school, Matt and Ryan were best friends. More than friends, actually. But in the ensuing ten years, they've lost contact. So when Matt receives an invitation to Ryan's wedding he's surprised - especially that Ryan is marrying a woman! Matt interrupts his ideal alternative lifestyle to return to his hometown. He plans to rescue his former love from whatever "she-devil" has trapped him into this huge mistake. On the other hand, Ryan's perky fiancé Alex takes quite the liking to Matt. Is she very cunning, disarmingly ditsy, completely adorable - or all three? As Matt tries to rekindle the old flame, Ryan is intent on putting out any sparks. Ryan dismisses their old romance as just a high school thing, but Matt realizes Ryan may still be the love of his life. All the while, Matt must deal with "his new best friend" Alex, the two families, and a hometown he thought he'd left entirely in the past. As the wedding day fast approaches (like a meteor hurtling toward ground zero), old feelings resurface and secrets are revealed. Each of them must balance the past with the present, and make a choice that will determine the rest of their lives: the boundaries of love, sexuality and identity are never constant.

The movie is nice, the director is for sure good. Maybe in comparison to Latter Days it has a bit more the feeling of low budget movie, but it's not something that weight too much on the quality. It has the merit to show what it can be the life in a small town for a gay boy; when you feel alone in your same home, maybe friendship could be mistaken for love, and when you are forced apart from that love, it becomes more perfect than what it really was.

The movie has no happy end, has it? I heard something about it..?!

mmm, not exactly. The main hero has had a lot of relationships but always compare his first love with the men in his life, and they never are up to the memory. Just before going to the marriage of his first love he left his actual boyfriend (Charlie David)... sooo, I will let you imagine the rest of the movie ;-) Elisa

Possible SPOILER:

I read that he marries the girl in the end and lives with her happily ever after? :(

The main hero is not the groom (Ryan), it's the childhood friend (Matt) who comes back to the small town to try to convince his first lover to not marry a woman. The one you read about is the groom (Ryan), who is marrying Alex (Tori Spelling) but the story is centered more on the other man, the one I said has an actual relationship with Joey (Charlie David).

Cannot say I enjoyed this one much! But, I may be a little bias. Not that keen on Tori Spelling!

If Charlie David's character was a bit more developed (and not only since Charlie David is handsome), I think the movie would have appealed more people. Like that, part of the story, and of the public, remains unsatisfied. Elisa

I'm with Sharrow in that Tori Spelling's presence as a major cast member makes me a lot less likely to want to try this movie. I'll grant you that Charlie David is very cute, though. :)

So next time the director has to put more Charlie and less Tori, hasn't it? ;-) Elisa

Definitely. [nodnod] Maybe a director's cut? :D

He can always do a sequel where the hero tries to reconquer the heart of Charlie David, there is a phone call at the end of the movie that let us hope. Elisa

There you go -- that'd work perfectly. [nod] If the director's smart enough to take you up on that, then I'll watch the first one (Tori Spelling and all) just so I can get what's going on in the second one. :)
