All Play & No Work (Cattle Valley) by Carol Lynne

This is a right title for the book. I think Carol Lynne has amused herself writing it, putting on a bunch of hunky men for all the women to read and no heroines around with whom have to share.

All Play & No Work, spin off of the Good-time Boys series, and first in the Cattle Valley series, is about Nate who has finally found the Mr Right of his life... but they are two, the just committed couple of alpha male Ryan (a native american) and Rio (a latin). Without doubt of the threesome, Ryan is the leading character, who have the reins of the house. He is the reason why the three men moves on Cattle Valley, Wyoming. Ryan is the new sheriff of a fantasyland city: a city built from nowhere from a rich man who has seen his only son killed for being gay and has decided to found a new city where all the same sex couple can live without problem. And so here, being gay seems to be a pre-requirement to obtain a job, and not a thing to keep secret.

Ryan is a solid and quiet character. He doesn't speak much. He takes decision. He looks on his men, and settles them down when they fly to high. Rio maybe is the character who has less chance to bright among the other two. He is not alpha enough to obscure Ryan, and not cute enough to take on Nate. Nate is a energetic bomb. Small and deadly. But he is also the clue of the couple: not between them, they had just a strong bond, but between the threesome and the new town. He makes friends and spreads smiles and helps all around.

All in all it's an enjoyable story, and I have just found my favourite characters among the new ones introduced by the author: Kyle. So now I'm waiting for his story.

Cattle Valley Mistletoe (Cattle Valley 2) by Carol Lynne

Second in the Cattle Valley series, it's the story of Casey, the new Reverend of the community, and Hal, the contractor who is hired to finish the Church common room and claims to be atheist.

Casey is new in town; the former reverend was an abusive man who betrayed all the city with his behaviour and now people are not very friendly with the new-comer. And then Casey is also very young, to his first parrish. Cattle Valley is an utopic town, where almost all the inhabitants are gay, and to obtain an employment being gay is not required, but preferable. And so also Casey is a pretty little thing with a big heart and a passion for sex. But in town no one seems to be available, at least not for him. So when Hal, the contractor he has hired, appears to his doorstep, big and strong and very hansome, to Casey falls in love at first sight is not a problem. And also Hal has no ptoblem with Casey, but perhaps with Casey's boss, the guy in the very upper floor.

But like in all the Christmas stories, good heart people are always near to give an hand, and for Casey and Hal it will be a very Happy Christmas.

Like Campus Craving series, also Cattle Valley are a series made of enjoyable short stories, more or less 100 pages each. They are pure entertainment, I think very woman-mind oriented, the perfect reading for who loves a man/man romance without too much drama. Sometimes is good to relax and enjoy.

A really really short and funny story.

Invinci-boy is a young superhero. He is 24 years old but he is still under the shadow of his father, the great Captain Invincible. So he suffers a bit this oppriment father. And he would like to be a normal guy, not to wear a blue spantex suit, yellow briefs on top of that and also a yellow cap. He would like to dress in jeans and t-shirt, and also he would like to be free to go out with a man and not to stay home to listen to all the homophobic rants of his father.

Taro is the nemesis of his father. An immortal semi-god, openly gay, who lives like a rock star. Half Japanese and half English, Taro is a lithe and ethereal guy, with long black hair and a gothic look. When Invinci-boy and Taro find themself captive in a underground dungeon of a nuclear power plant, all the desires of Brian (Invinci-boy) sprung free and he shares a day of passion with Taro. But the outside world is there to wait for them and they are still enemies.

I can't say more on this tale, since it's so short that I would risk to give it up. Surely it's pretty original, with the superhero characters that, instead of fight, make love... it has a bit of new-flower taste on it.

Funny reading for a short break.

Well, well, well this book surprised me. Truth be told I didn't buy it as soon as it was out, even if I like Ann Somerville's work, due to the menage matter. You know me well friends, I'm not keen first of cheating men, second of BDSM and third of menage: simple, I don't like a woman between MY men.

But, without give up the book, I need to give kudos to Ann Somerville, since she wrote one of the few menage story I can without problems, say that I like.

Seb is the captain, North the pilot, and Jati the engineering. All of them are embarking for a long mission in a spaceship and it's not the moment to argue. And instead they are arguing a lot. Twenty four hours before Seb and North met in a pub and they spent a night together, but the morning after Seb left mumbling some weak excuses of "this is against the rules", "I shouldn't do it".

Seb is rebounding from a divorce (with a man, in this futurist setting same sex marriage is not an issue) and he has just learnt that his ex spouse is remarrying and moving out from their home. Worst he wants to sell the house and have a clean start. Obviously Seb is not ready, since he is still harboring the hope to reconquer him sooner or later.

North instead thinks that Seb is ready, and when he meets him out of duty, he is willing and ready to give the handsome captain some reasons more for a new beginning. Saved being dumped the morning after and begin to sulk and pout like a teen in heat. Worst, he breaks up quite abruptly a fuck--buddy relationship he had with Jatila, a fellow officer.

Pity that Jatila was thinking that what she had with North could be something more that a friend with benefits relationship. And when North is greatly surprise by her reaction, she understands that he had no idea of what she was feeling.

So these are the very "good" conditions before the journey starts. Add to them an alien's attack to the spaceship and our trio will have to deal with a lot more of what they probably can.

This is a very good mix between sci-fic and romance. Both parts are deeply and satisfyingly dealt, and the characters are complex and interesting, and it says a lot on the author that she manages to do that in a book of less than 90 pages.

Also the end is right for the story, and, I don't know, I feel like the author will give us something more on this trio. Sorry if I give you not more details, but sincerely this is a book you should read discovering things by yourself, to preserve you the same surprise I had.
