Sonny's Salvation (Good-time Boys) by Carol Lynne

This is a prequel to the real story. Sonny is a gay cowboy in a small town where everyone hardly accepts him cause he is born there and cause his brother is the town sheriff. Worse, he has two twin brothers, both gay, and also the sheriff has some doubt about his sexuality...

Sonny has worked for FBI and has a passion for bad guy. Better if they are tall, broad shoulder and biker type. And when he sees Garron, the new bartender of his favourite bar and brother of his neighbour, he knows he is the man for him. And Garron agrees with him.

When things become interesting, the book is at the end: on the preview of the second enstallment you can read that Sonny and Garron will be the main characters also of this second book. So in so few pages, I can't have a whole impression of the story, but I can say that I like very much Garron's character, so protective with Sonny even in the small things and so open and hot about his passion.

About the fact that four brothers are all gay and meet two brothers (Garron and Jeb) also both gay... ouch, if I want to find a man, please let me know where is this small town, cause I will leave it out of my journey, but if you want to read something light and sexy, all right, you have your book.

Garron's Gift (Good-time Boys) by Carol Lynne

The sequel of Sonny's Salvation (which was really only an introduction to the real story), Garron's Gift is another enstalment in the Good-time Boys series.

Garron and Sonny are living together since a month when Sonny asks Garron to "marry" him. True, not a real marriage, but a commitment cerimony holds in the town's pub, where everyone can see what happens. But Sonny doesn't find what he wants, instead he finds a person who shots him in the street in front of the pub.

While Garron and Rawley, Sonny's brother and town's sheriff, try to find who has shot Sonny, Sonny has to learn as to live with a permanent disability, which prevents him to have a live he was used to. And Rawley's feelings for Jeb, Garron's brother, becomes even stronger and Ryker and Ranger, Sonny and Rawley's twins brothers have something to hide to all the town, but Ranger seems to far interested on the pub's waitress, and Nate, the PI and Garron's friends, who came from the big city to help, has a not so hidden interest in Rio, the bodyguard Garron has hired to help resolve the case... So? Have you had enough hints to understand that Carol Lynne has mixed some very interesting characters and manages to write a story that has not a real end but is, above all, truly enjoyable?

Every story I read by Carol Lynne I notice she is growing more confident in master her fantasy and writing skills. And these two continuing series she is writing for Total-E-Bound (Good-time Boys and Campus Cravings) are becoming more interesting every enstalment. If you have read Sonny's Salvation and don't find it worthy, give a try to Garron's Gift: you will understand that Sonny's Salvation is only an appetizer to the real story.

Rawley's Redemption (Good-time Boys) by Carol Lynne

The third book on the Good-time Boys is the story of Rawley, Sonny's brother, and Jeb, Garron's brother. Rawley has lost his job as Sheriff after causing too trouble to Lionel, the major suspect in the shooting of his brother Sonny. Loosing his job could be not a bad thing if allows Rawley to openly live with his lover Jeb. And so they start their relationship and in the meanwhile Rawley continues to investigate on Lionel, with the help of all his brothers, but also of Nate and Rio.

And Nate and Rio, with also Ryan, Rio's lover, steal the scene to Rawley and Jeb. I have no problem to admit that I have sometime skipped in advance to see if I will have something more on the threesome. So I'm waiting to read their story in All Play & No Work, the first in the Cattle Valley series, even if I will be a good girl and read it only after having finished the last in the Good-time Boys series, Twin Temptations.

About the main characters, Rawley is an interesting character. He loves Jeb, no doubt, but he is still acting the role of the straight man who doesn't admit to be gay. He behaves like he thinks he has to do a "real" man, an Alpha man, trying to overprotect his lover and taking away decision from him. Jeb is a saint: when he is pissed off, he sleeps on it and goes up early in the morning and works off the hungry, and then sits down and listen to his man and to his excuse. He knows that, during the day, his man will think on what he has done and will return home with the tail between his legs. Clever man.

Rawley's Redemption is an enjoyable book which flows smoothly.

All Play & No Work (Cattle Valley) by Carol Lynne

This is a right title for the book. I think Carol Lynne has amused herself writing it, putting on a bunch of hunky men for all the women to read and no heroines around with whom have to share.

All Play & No Work, spin off of the Good-time Boys series, and first in the Cattle Valley series, is about Nate who has finally found the Mr Right of his life... but they are two, the just committed couple of alpha male Ryan (a native american) and Rio (a latin). Without doubt of the threesome, Ryan is the leading character, who have the reins of the house. He is the reason why the three men moves on Cattle Valley, Wyoming. Ryan is the new sheriff of a fantasyland city: a city built from nowhere from a rich man who has seen his only son killed for being gay and has decided to found a new city where all the same sex couple can live without problem. And so here, being gay seems to be a pre-requirement to obtain a job, and not a thing to keep secret.

Ryan is a solid and quiet character. He doesn't speak much. He takes decision. He looks on his men, and settles them down when they fly to high. Rio maybe is the character who has less chance to bright among the other two. He is not alpha enough to obscure Ryan, and not cute enough to take on Nate. Nate is a energetic bomb. Small and deadly. But he is also the clue of the couple: not between them, they had just a strong bond, but between the threesome and the new town. He makes friends and spreads smiles and helps all around.

All in all it's an enjoyable story, and I have just found my favourite characters among the new ones introduced by the author: Kyle. So now I'm waiting for his story.

Cattle Valley Mistletoe (Cattle Valley 2) by Carol Lynne

Second in the Cattle Valley series, it's the story of Casey, the new Reverend of the community, and Hal, the contractor who is hired to finish the Church common room and claims to be atheist.

Casey is new in town; the former reverend was an abusive man who betrayed all the city with his behaviour and now people are not very friendly with the new-comer. And then Casey is also very young, to his first parrish. Cattle Valley is an utopic town, where almost all the inhabitants are gay, and to obtain an employment being gay is not required, but preferable. And so also Casey is a pretty little thing with a big heart and a passion for sex. But in town no one seems to be available, at least not for him. So when Hal, the contractor he has hired, appears to his doorstep, big and strong and very hansome, to Casey falls in love at first sight is not a problem. And also Hal has no ptoblem with Casey, but perhaps with Casey's boss, the guy in the very upper floor.

But like in all the Christmas stories, good heart people are always near to give an hand, and for Casey and Hal it will be a very Happy Christmas.

Like Campus Craving series, also Cattle Valley are a series made of enjoyable short stories, more or less 100 pages each. They are pure entertainment, I think very woman-mind oriented, the perfect reading for who loves a man/man romance without too much drama. Sometimes is good to relax and enjoy.

Director: Jonah Markowitz

Writer: Jonah Markowitz (writer)

Genre: Drama, Romance, Sport

Plot: The feature-film debut from art director Jonah Markowitz (Quinceañera) pivots on the tension between responsibility to family and responsibility to self. Recent high-school graduate Zach (Trevor Wright) has one summer to reconcile the competing halves of his life. The aspiring Picasso lives in blue-collar San Pedro with his irresponsible sister, Jeanne (Tina Holmes, Half Nelson), her five-year-old son, Cody (Jackson Wurth), and their rarely-seen father. Zach gave up his art school dreams to toil in a diner and help look after his much-loved nephew. With his best friend, Gabe (Ross Thomas), away at college, Zach draws, surfs, and skateboards by his lonesome. When Gabe's novelist brother, Shaun (Brad Rowe, Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss), returns to his Orange County home to recover from a broken heart, he and Zach alternate between riding the waves and encouraging each other to pursue their aspirations. Shaun is gay, while Zach appears to be straight, but a casual kiss between the two soon leads to a secret relationship. Before the former returns to Los Angeles, the latter has to decide who he is--gay, straight, artist, cook, uncle, or father--and what he's going to do about it. Except for the location shooting, this low-budget indie plays like an extended episode of The O.C. what with all the "bro"s and "dude"s and love scenes tame enough for network TV. Nonetheless, Markowitz’s heart is in the right place, and Shelter may provide some real-life Zachs with the courage they need to follow their passions. (Kathleen C. Fennessy)
