This is an Ukrainian (Russian) commercial for chocolate. Don't know if you can consider it strictly a "gay commercial", I decided to feature it, since the pretty boy at the begging of the ad ignores all the women to rush to work and when he is there throw a knowing smile to one of his fellow Master chocolatier! And then, did you see that man in front of the locker?!? Worth all the ad... And don't let me start on the sexual innuendo!

Peter is a cop, but he is not that typical cop by the book. He does his work, but he is also able to close an eye when law can't give justice. But all in all he is not a bad guy, not like his former lover and fellow cop Adam, drug addict and dirty cop. But now Adam is dead so maybe in this case justice is made. But the unusual twist of this short novel is that Peter was in love with Adam the cop, and now he is in love with Adam the vampire. How and when Adam became a vampire is not clear, but now Peter is taking care of him in an Hollywood basement in exchange of sex and companionship.

Probably Adam being a vampire is almost a good thing, since the death makes Adam reconsidered his life, and now he is a better man... well not exactly a man, but I believe that Peter prefers this vampire to the drug addict cop. Problem is that Adam, reconsidering his life, is also becoming aware that life should have a meaning, and he doesn't see any reason for him to be alive. Adam is depressed and Peter fears every moment when he is far from him, since he doesn't know what his lover can do alone.

A.M. Riley said that this is a taste on a longer story she will write if readers will like her characters. Well, I like them; I like the fact that Adam was not a perfect man alive and now he is a brooding vampire, but not since he sees as an injustice to be an un-dead, but since probably he sees as an injustice being still alive. I like Peter, with his deep love despite all the odds and his fears to loose even what little he still has. I like also the fact that, all in all, this is not your typical vampire romance, with blood sucking and splattering games, but the vampire nature of Adam is almost seen as something private, to not share with his lover.

Eric is a famous blind piano concert artist; putting together the art and the blindness, and the man is treated as a china doll from all the people around him. But Eric is not a doll, he has feelings and he likes simple things; he likes how his lover Dave treats him, like a play partner and not like a icon to idolize. But Dave is far and he is since 6 long months, so long that Eric is beginning to suspect that he will no more can back. And then Eric meets Dante, a New York cab driver, funny and easy, and Eric is facing an hard decision: he is ready to move on on his relationship with Dave?

The story is short, 50 pages, but I like it: it's very Christmastime, all glittering and sparks, even more since it's setting in a posh New York hotel. Eric's disability is maybe a bit too much underlight, since he was blind all his life and I was expecting him to be more independent, but you have also to consider that he has no steady point in his life, always living in hotel rooms around the country, and so not having reference point to build his world.

Dante is a nice character, but we only "sees" him through Eric's eyes (pun intended...) and so I don't know his reason, I have the feeling that he is young and very much fascinated by the public person that is Eric, but not in a bad way. He can be good for Eric, and being at the beginning of his adult life, he can build it around Eric.

All right, I admit that I bought this novel more for the author than for the story... but have you read Ben Patrick Johnson's personal story? How similar is to the blurb of the book? So you can imagine how curious I was to read how the main character of this novel behaves since in a way it would be like spying on Johnson's life. But all in all, I believe that Johnson's output in life is better than Freddie's, the hero of this novel.

It's an unusual novel for me to read, since more than a love story is a life story, the adventures of gay Freddie in the glittering and fake world of Hollywood. Freddie is an openly gay radio DJ who lives in West Hollywood with his hunk jamaican boyfriend. Perfect, isn't it? Well, not exactly... Freddie's work is not so exciting and his relationship with Xavier is slowly wearing down. And so when he is talent scouted on the street and in two days offered with the chance to be the host in a new television show, he jumps at the possibility. Freddie, now renamed Daniel, is groomed and taught to be the perfect anchorman, all people around him praising him for being fresh, new and green! Posh hotels, limousines, all around him is glittering and friendly. But Freddie makes a big mistake: he doesn't hide his boyfriend, he brings him to official events... no, no, no dear Freddie, you can be gay at Hollywood, but you should be asexual, it's not good for families to have the proof that you actually have sex with men!

Probably if his relationship with Xavier was happier, Freddie would fight for it, and instead he decides to play along what the network requires, and he slowly is pushed behind the scene, from the front line to the Z position, despite his good works and his clearly predisposition to be on video.

Freddie is a strange character, I don't know if I like him so much; in a way he is not a fighter, and he is also a cheater... well, this last I don't know, it depends on his relationship with Xavier, I don't know what are their agreement, and well, he plays around since Xavier is behaving bad, but still... Lucky for Freddie, he meets a good guy, Charlie, who maybe, gives him the right reason to fight back, even if, maybe, he takes his decision at the very last. Probably I'm a bit too harsh with Freddie, I have in mind this "hero" image, and instead Freddie is probably only a man facing something bigger than him; sometime I almost feel tenderness for him, I almost want to comfort and saying that all will be right. Truth is that he didn't meet so many nice figure, and some of them are disguising so well that you almost mistake them for the bad guy... and what you think a good guy is fake like sometime Hollywood is.

Anyway, the book is a good mix of real life with some nice add of romance; I wouldn't mind for the sex scene to be a bit hotter, but still, they are nice, even if all behind closed doors.
