In the last three years there were a few time when I wondered if it was the case to leave LJ. I love my journal, I love my friends list, so if they really don't do something to kick me out, I will probably continue, but I wanted to let you know that I have a DreamWidth account and a very nice user [livejournal.com profile] foxfirefey helped me with the layout:

It's a replica of my LJ here, less the tag (I will need to implement them if I will move). If you have an account there feel free to add me, since my Journal is not exactly "ordinary" I will not friend people who don't want to have it in their friends list.

I think that with this futuristic novel T.A. Chase wanted to have fun: even if we are talking of battles in alien planets, and so, basically very tricky situations, I have never felt like the men were really in danger, and instead, there were even some funny moments.

Alvix is trying to escape is endured slavery; it’s not clear how he managed it, but he has a small spaceshift and he wants to leave the planet as soon as possible, only that the spaceshift has a flat tire! Or something similar. Like Alvix was a damsel in distress on a contemporary roadside, a knight in shining armour arrives to help, and in this case no description was better: Cooper is a officer of the Galaxy Military system, but he was also the guinea pig of a very special experiment; everytime he gets wounded, his skin is automatically replaced by a thin layer of titanium, and since he gets wounded often, he is now more steel than flesh.

Without much notice, Alvix finds himself “enlisted” as captain for a rescue mission, Cooper and two other soldiers like him want to save three other men they left behind during their last mission; in the blink of the moment, the men are rescued and Alvix is not captive in an alien planet and not in a friendly environment.

I will not spend much words in describing the story, since basically, it’s like that, military mission after military mission; what instead I found nice was the light tone that managed to always overcome all the rest. Like when Alvix stands in front of the enemy fire (literally, since the enemies are able to use fire as weapon) and his clothes got burned, and everything Cooper could do is to stare at Alvix naked bum.

Maybe due to the fact that he was raised on the street, or maybe since in this futuristic society sex is nothing more than a recreational activity, Alvix doesn’t pay much attention to his body, or better, he is like “disconnected” from it: at least in two moment, Alvix has to suffer from physical violence (even if the reader doesn’t read it), but he is able to stop the experience at a body level, without letting it influence his spirit and mind. And so, when he is with Cooper, Alvix is still able to desire him, at first maybe to “soothe” his pain, but then for the pleasure that he can give him. For Alvix sex is something good and enjoyable, something he has no problem to share with Cooper, even if it’s only for a night.

Cooper maybe is a bit more “old fashioned”, or maybe he is only a soldier: for him it’s not easy to accept things only since he likes them, he needs to have a reason and a purpose. In the end, Cooper will make Alvix his reason and purpose, and so, if soothing him is what Alvix wants, Cooper will do everything to help him, even giving him full access to his “cool” body.
