* more than 150$ is a direct donation from a supporter of the Rainbow Awards who isn't submitting; while some authors were more than generous, arriving to donate 5 times the suggested amount, being the submission fee a non mandatory and voluntary direct donation, we were struggling to raise the same amount as last year and there is who decided to cover part of it. I thank you for all you are doing, and if you wish to donate to the above links, please drop me a note with your donation and I will update the total.

Starting from March up until June I will feature authors attending the UK GLBTQ Meet in Bristol (June 7 & 8, 2014: http://ukglbtfictionmeet.co.uk/2014-registration/2014-attendees/)

Today author is Patrick Darcy: "Hi, I’m Patrick Darcy. Rugby player, Irishman and writer of full strength gay erotica. By day I’m a young advertising executive, living in the beautiful city of Dublin, Ireland. Working for an international media company takes me all over the world and lets me get up to all kinds of mischief! For me, sex should be passionate, intense, sweaty, dirty fun and a no holds barred affair! That’s what I try to capture in my writing, and that’s where I like to take the reader. The reader should be in the heart of the action, to smell, feel, touch and taste. To be totally immersed in the eroticism of the story. Not all my stories are set in Dublin, but they all follow my heart’s desires. There are two big passions in my life: great sex and rugby. Quite often, these are combined! I love the thrill of competition, the power, the intensity, the brotherhood of rugby.
Oh, and I love being naked!"

Confessions of a Gay Rugby Player (Charlie Harding Presents) by Patrick Darcy
Publisher: Wilde City Press (May 15, 2013)
Amazon Kindle: Confessions of a Gay Rugby Player (Charlie Harding Presents)

Star Irish rugby player, Conor Murphy, lives and breathes rugby. He spends his weekends playing rugby, drinking beer, and singing songs with his teammates. There is only one thing he loves more than rugby, and that is hot rugby players. But after the final whistle sounds, the real competition begins: the hunt for the hottest men.

Conor’s muscular body and roguish good looks ensure he can have his pick of the sexiest players. But what happens when this alpha male meets his match on and off the field? Who will come out on top when he meets the horniest rugby players from the USA? Can two alpha males have the night of their lives?

The Roman "romance" (it sounds strange, isn't it) was quite popular in the '80s, even if it didn't reach the popularity of other subgenres like Western or Scottish Medieval romance. And maybe, it was more common in Europe than US, probably cause, more or less, Roman are the forefathers of most part of this country. Anyway, I have to say, I was quite fond of this genre, so when I started The Eagle's Wing, it didn't sound strange or unfamiliar to my ears.

Even if Keret was a former sex slave, the novel doesn't centre much around the sex; when Lucius and Keret, after a painful and long recovery of Keret's emotional status, will arrive to share a bed, the author didn't linger much, just enough to give us the feeling of what was happening. Indeed, it wasn't much important they add that level of intimacy to their relationship, cause the bond was already strong, they first became life companion and then lover.

It was also good to read how the author grasped the custom of the time: that Lucius bought Keret as a bed slave wasn't strange at all, but that he wanted a relationship with him was basically forbidden; moreover, sex between men wasn't forbidden, or even look upon, but only if penetrative sex happened with Lucius, the master, being the dominant lover, Keret didn't even dare to imagine he could be the one doing the deed.

The Eagle's Wing wasn't an easy, light or sexy reading, but it was for sure an original Gay romance, out of the thousand of titles you can find out there.
