Barry Brennessel & David

When Barry's first collection of stories was read aloud by his second grade teacher, the author hid in the bathroom. As the years flew by, he wrote more, hid less (not really), and branched out to Super 8 films and cassette tape recorders. Barry's audience--consisting solely of friends and family--were both amused and bemused.

Since those childhood days, Barry has earned degrees in English and French from the State University of New York College at Brockport, and a Master of Arts in Writing from the Johns Hopkins University.

His work has appeared in SNReview, Perspectives, Time Pilot, Liquid Ohio, Nocturnal Lyric, Midnight Times, Gival Press's ArLiJo, Polari Journal, and the Dreamspell Nightmares (I & II) and Dreamspell Revenge (I & II) anthologies from L&L Dreamspell. His stories, novels and teleplays have won awards, including a 2008 Pushcart Prize nomination; 3rd Place in the 2010 Pacific Northwest Writers Association (PNWA) literary contest and finalist status in the 2006, 2008 and 2009 PNWA contests; 3rd Place in the 79th Annual Writer's Digest Writing Competition and finalist status in the Winter 2010 WILDSound Screenplay competition.

When not embroiled in his own writing, Barry sips wine, nibbles on chocolate, and watches films and TV--both the classic and the cheesy. (Mmm...cheese!)

On July 15, 1988, Barry (born January 1, 1964) met his husband, David (born November 1, 1963).

Louise Boynton & Maude Adams

Maude Ewing Adams Kiskadden (November 1, 1872 – July 17, 1953), known professionally as Maude Adams, was an American actress who achieved her greatest success as the character Peter Pan, first playing the role in the 1905 Broadway production of Peter Pan; or, The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up. Adams's personality appealed to a large audience and helped her become the most successful and highest-paid performer of her day, with a yearly income of more than one million dollars during her peak.

Adams began performing as a child while accompanying her actress mother on tour. At age 16, she made her Broadway debut, and under Charles Frohman's management, she became a popular player alongside leading man John Drew, Jr. in the early 1890s. Beginning in 1897, Adams starred in plays by J. M. Barrie, including The Little Minister, Quality Street, What Every Woman Knows and Peter Pan. These productions made Adams the most popular actress in New York. She also performed in various other plays. Her last Broadway play, in 1916, was Barrie's A Kiss for Cinderella. After a 13-year retirement, she appeared in more Shakespeare plays and then taught acting in Missouri.

Adams retired after A Kiss for Cinderella in 1916. During the 1920s, she worked with General Electric to develop improved and more powerful stage lighting and with the Eastman Company in developing color photography. It has been suggested that her motivation for her association with these technology companies was because she wished to appear in a color film version of Peter Pan, and this would have required better lighting and techniques for color photography. After 13 years away from the stage, she returned to acting, appearing occasionally in regional productions of Shakespeare plays, including as Portia in The Merchant of Venice in Ohio, in 1931, and as Maria in Twelfth Night in 1934 in Maine.


Adams as Peter Pan
Maude Adams was an American actress who achieved her greatest success playing the role of Peter Pan in the 1905 Broadway production of Peter Pan; or, The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up. Maude first met Miss Lillian Florence “Lilliet” in 1892. The young pair lived together until Lillie's premature death from a terminal illness in 1901. In 1905, Miss Louise Boynton assumed Lilliet's special place in Maude's private world and remained there for forty-six years. Maude is buried with Louise, with both their name on the tombstone.


Louise Boynton & Maude Adams are buried together in Cenacle Convent Grounds, Lake Ronkonkoma, Suffolk County, New York. Maude asked to be buried beside her secretary and faithful friend, Louise, who had died 2 years before, with both of their names on the gravestone.

Rainbow Awards pre-party and 8th anniversary (Day 1)

November 2014 marks the 8th anniversary since I opened my first journal on LJ, and the 6th anniversary of the Rainbow Awards and we will have again a 1 month long big bash party. 119 authors, all of them in the 2014 Rainbow Awards, have donated an ebook and I will use them for a Treasure Hunt. Every day, for all November, I will post 4 excerpts (a random page of the book). No reference to title, or author, or publisher.
