1) Great plot development. The story is easy to consume and to follow and has a lot of logical progression to it. The plot is a little predictable in places, but overall, it's fun to read and enjoyable. They did some research and had some details that were very uncommon, but thoughtful. I can really appreciate that. It's the hallmark of a good writer not just to be able to put prose onto paper, but also to be able to use the setting and the culture of the setting in the plot in unique ways. The characters feel like real people. They have troubles and wants. Conflict is present. They don't feel like they fall flat, and characters whom you don't expect to relate to end up having some serious worries, flaws, and concerns. Good show overall! Clean and simple. A bit too much adverb use in some places where the adverbs can simply be replaced with a stronger verb. Overall, very pleasant and easy to read/consume, which is a pleasure. Recommended for consideration for an award.

2) This gorgeous re-imagining and refreshing interpretation of a classic fairy tale is a literary tour de force that awakens a fountain of possibilities for readers. As the forces of good and evil meet the conflicting reflections we each bring to our understanding of what it means to be different, Werlinger has achieved a poignant and powerful verbal picture of love, heroines and humanity.

1) Riveting story. Couldn’t put it down. This author knows the ins and outs of the white house and the presidency. In addition, it was a great love story!

2) I lost a lot of valuable sleep because i couldn't put this book down. It was fast paced, detailed, and intriguing. I don't even like politics and had my eyes burning because i didnt want to blink away from my eReader. The author did an excellent job of bringing the reader into each scene. Multidimensional. Identifiable. Heart throbbing. I look forward to the next installment.

1) This story was fantastic. I loved the point of view changes. I couldn't put it down once I started. I laughed out loud at some of the plot and can't wait for a sequel!

1) This short book is well worth obtaining if you are involved in business, politics, education, and many other fields and professions in which you happen to be dealing with anyone with a sexuality other than heterosexual. Bartlett lays out the differences and the confusions among terminology, thinking, and feeling for all 8 types in a candid,clear manner and with really helpful anecdotes and examples. A handy little guide for everyday use, it really seems essential in corporate America today. I didn't know how much I didn't know until I read Bartlett.

2) This is a fantastic book and a very helpful tool to educate family and friends of LGBTQIA+. Heck. Learned a great deal and I are one.

1) Dusk Peterson has written a series of compelling short stories sent in ancient times when the love for another man was prohibited and sentenced by death. These are well written and quite entertaining. There are a few of these stories I wouldn't mind if they were extended and given a wider view. Well done!

2) Really nice stories with interesting plots. Mostly character driven, with a hint of plot to push things along. A lot of the intercharacter relationships really shine in this anthology. Excellent. The author took a lot of care with the setting in which these stories are developed. While I normally find weakness when an author borrows a setting in which to set their stories (and initially I was concerned about the author lifting the state of Maryland), I found that I enjoyed the changes and twists the author made, essentially taking Maryland and making it their own. I can really appreciate a lot of the painstaking research the author did, and think this part of their stories really shined. These are people, not just characters. They each have their own unique voice as much as they can and you get that feel while reading these stories. Excellent. Really well done; a nice balance of being inside the character's head and explaining what's going on. Sometimes, a bit of tell, but generally well balanced with some show to it. Great job. Recommended for consideration for an award.

1) Intriguing, fast-paced and philosophically engaging, IMO, but unnecessarily complicated. Vaguely Scandinavian, and adequate for a plot-and-character-centred narrative, but the descriptions of Skelling -- the more realistic setting from which the adventurers set forth for an enchanted island -- could have been more detailed. More information about the climate, the flora and the fauna would have been useful, especially since plant magic is a key element. Awesome. Very good, but no passages really stand out, since the style is in service to the plot.

2) While this story started off slowly, it quickly gained momentum and built into something far more complex than I envisioned. To call it another Viking story is doing it a disservice; unsurprisingly from Barbara Ann Wright, there's a fully realized fantasy civilization to discover. The love stories spin out in a way that's simultaneously central to and secondary to the plot. If not for the intense bonds formed between the women, the plot would take an entirely different course, and yet the demands of the story press and harry the women into situations they'd never have dreamed of. I want a sequel!

3) Beautifully written, this fantasy tale of true love in the Viking era will steal your heart.

1) The main character, Rath, was suddenly on the line for his father's debts from the biggest crime boss, the Friar. His normal jobs would never pay him enough in time to cancel the debt. Urged to join the Tournament of Losers, or it's proper name, The Tournament of Charlet, he decides he will get to the part where he gets the stipend to help pay for expenses while in the competition, then lose, dropout, and go back to a life on the docks and the whorehouses. Ms. Derr's easy writing style made this for a delightful read. I was with her characters the whole time as well as the time and place; they were believable and plausible. The richness of the descriptions and the real dialog pulled me through until I realized, when I finished, it was nearly two in the morning. While there is no descriptive sex in the book; this was a romance, and there were ways to show affection other than the standard tab A into slot B writing. I found I did not miss it. How Rath felt the next day while trying to go about his work was sufficient, and was a great way to move the story forward. Thank you for allowing me to read this novel.

2) I absolutely adored everything about this story, from characters to the premise of the plot.

3) The author has written a perfect romantic fantasy story. The world was immediately real, well described, and all the elements seemed believable to me. There was just enough angst to keep the plot moving, but never too much you were overwhelmed with a need for tissues. The characters are perfect; the romance between Rath and Teric is slow-burn and with a gorgeous ending. I wanted them to get together, even though at times it felt they never would. The author's style is easy to read but surprisingly profound, and I would gladly read anything else she cares to share with us.

1) It's a fast-paced thriller and fairly comprehensible on its own, but as a sequel, it does refer back to events in Volume #1. Several settings, all clearly described, with reference to local weather events and their significance. Fairly realistic, considering that the major characters have superpowers and/or are descended from gods. Excellent writing style, including dialogue that shows differences between American and British characters. This novel manages to be a fast read despite being written from alternating viewpoints AND being over 600 pages long.

2) I loved this book completely from beginning to end. I adored to super Britishness of Quentin and Freddy, and how down-to-earth Laurence and his mom are, and the unapologetic bi characters – that this reads as a full-rainbow story is glorious. My only regret is that I didn’t read book one first (which makes for a bamboozling first couple of chapters, but I soon caught on), and I would recommend everyone does!

1) Ann's books are always pretty good. As usual, the storyline was great and the scenes flowed effortlessly. I found myself engrossed in the characters and enjoyed myself immensely.

2) I enjoyed this book by Ann McMan. I had to read it 2 times through as I found a lot going on and ALOT of characters.

3) Backcast is a masterpiece of plot weaving and thematic diversity. There are colorful, relatable and three-dimensional characters, and the author has a rare and refreshingly approachable writing style that makes this book so readable. I dare anyone not to shed a tear or two at “essays” 7, 10 and 12.

4) This imaginative author gives us a multi-dimensional story with interesting characters and a relatable story line all wrapped in a unique writing style. Highly recommended.

1) Overall, this imaginative collection of short stories was a joy to read, hosting some wonderfully unique characters and creative plots, all of which were very well written. Three Nights was a full story for such a short tale that had me completely absorbed from start to finish. Beautifully written. Dame Fortune was entertaining and the author showed a wonderful imagination, Aelfwear was charming and entertaining, Into the Hollowed Veil was uniquely creative and emotionally evocative. I may have shed a tear or two over that one.

2) Sometimes these are hard to judge as I have to do the whole book and not just an individual story… So, in saying that I found some stories better than others but they each had something about them that appealed to the readers.

3) This anthology touches on many aspects of queer identity from bisexuality to trans identity to asexuality and beyond. It's refreshing in that respect and more so in its inclusion of fantasy and fairy tales from sources outside just European culture. There's a touch of science fantasy too, a little something for everyone, and I don't mean that in the very limited and privileged context in which it's usually used. Well written and edited with just a few minor errors, this is an anthology worth exploring.

4) Each story's plot isn't something that's particularly new, but the little details and changes that the authors of these stories made are what makes them really special. The plots are straightforward, but the twists make the stories. They're quick, fun reads that are really enjoyable. Good show! Each story had its own feel and voice. I really appreciate how much work the authors put into these and how much care the editor used to curate them. They're all a nice little taste of something, and the variety is amazing. Characters seem to have their own unique voices. At no time did any two characters feel like they were just a mask over a similar voice. They each had motivations and quirks that made them stand apart on their own. Excellent job overall. Good writing overall. Clear, a little slow in pacing, but just enough slowness to make things enjoyable. Strongly Recommend for an Award.

1) A book that I wasn't able to put down even when things become too absurd to be believable, but maybe it was what held my attention till the end. I liked a lot the story, it was a mix of mystery, a bit of gory details and a lot of absurds decisions/actions that astonishing enough works well together even when logically it shouldn’t. It was for sure a different and original read that put a smile on my face when I reach the last page. Good, surprising and different from everything I have ever read!

2) This book is quite a ride, beginning as a typical lesbian YA (nerd girl in love with gorgeous cheerleader) that morphs into a paranormal fast moving romp. The author's use of teen pop culture references in dialogue was comprehensive and quite amazing in its range. The dialogue was funny and fast paced, but believable. The book is a bit over-written in places and might have benefitted from 20% shorter in length (it was almost as if the author couldn't let herself stop writing about these characters and the editor didn't intervene), but the characters and story are so compelling that the reader is willing to go along for the ride. Strong first effort from this author.

1) I know 40 is the highest score but this is the only book I've read out of all the years reading for the Rainbow Awards that I thought was perfect. Well written, entertaining, thought provoking, challenging....the whole thing was just really well done.

2) This story has a complex realistic plot with a good balance of challenges for each of the two characters. It also offers a vivid hot, humid Florida setting though I would have liked more of a sense of which city/town was featured and a sense of its location and size. I liked the three-dimensional characters, especially Dunkin's Jewish background, his complicated mental issues, and his conflicted urges to ingratiate himself with the popular crowd versus being an outcast with Lily. This absorbing story is told in a smooth, professional writing style with deft handling of a tricky narrative centering on alternating first-person viewpoints.

3) Funny and insightful, peopled with two very engaging main characters, reading this well-written novel was a delight.

1) Julian Keys speaks with a distinctive and lively voice. His writing, direct yet nuanced and with many an arresting turn of phrase, is a joy to read. This is high praise from a reviewer who is not drawn to the M/s, D/s scene and can gauge the erotic content with a dispassionate eye. His characters are sharply delineated, and their motivations are complex and subtly shaded. Even though I couldn't tell exactly where the action takes place, setting deserves a high score. The spaces the characters inhabit telegraph who they are, what they feel, and how they live their lives. Examples include the apartment complex, with its communal storage space, where the protagonist's mother lives, the Cockpit leather bar and its down-at-the-heel Christmas ornaments, and the protagonist's flat, stripped to its bare essentials but stacked floor-to-ceiling with books. Here, setting shed lights on character and even advances plot. Plot is, however, the weakest link. Because this a collection of stand-alone stories strung together into one long book, Keys falls back on saying "but that's another story" when recapping events that occurred earlier in the book. When the stories are read in succession, the recapping just gets in the way. But perhaps Keys couldn't revise already published stories to edit out the "feather dusting" relating circumstances the reader already knows about.

2) My favorite kinds of stories are the ones where I start out thinking "this kink/pairing/genre/etc really isn't my thing," and then the author changes my mind. This was that kind of book and then some. Yes, the stories are some of the sexiest I've ever read, but it's the characters who make them unforgettable. Mason, the Fancy Man, is one of the most intelligent, thought-provoking, passionate and compassionate characters I've ever read. I love the interplay of race, power, and kink. The writing is elegant, spare, and thoughtful. Truly an outstanding collection.

1) What a beautiful book! It is full of vivid imagery, well-drawn and unique characters, and the story--oh, so heartbreaking but yet appropriate for the times. War is hell, and it took its toll on the young men caught up in it. I felt like I was there with Alan, Lew and Russ, experiencing what they did right alongside them. I reveled in their stolen moments together with their beloveds, and cried for their devastating losses. This story will definitely stick with me for a very long time. I loved it. All the points.

2) I awarded top marks to this book because I thoght the writing was exceptional. I was transported back in time to the Great War. The sense of time and place were outstanding. The language of the book perfectly fitted the setting and the lives and opinions of the characters all felt true to time and place. An exceptional read.

3) This is a convincing, well-researched historical novel about a very closeted network of gay men who don't have access to a community of like-minded people. The homophobia of the surrounding society is extreme, and so is their anxiety about sexual contact with other men, including kissing. The drama of warfare and the great flu epidemic, which together destroyed millions of lives, all seem true to life, and they could hardly be exaggerated. As a historical novel, this book is a solid achievement.

1) Cold to the Touch was a seamless narrative blending criminal mystery and romance. Hunter's style is so elegant that I feel like I experienced the story, not just read it.

2) A gripping story with well-developed characters and a pace that, at times, leaves you on the edge of your seat. Very clean writing style that managed to move the plot along without bogging down the reader in trivial details as sometimes occurs in crime procedurals. Overall, very nicely done.

3) Talk about cold! Cari Hunter writes winter so that you feel the snow creep down your collar or the wind whistle through the rip in your pants. She makes you feel the ache of fatigue from three nights in a row of too little sleep, and the terror of thinking you're losing your job, your career, your best friend, and your chance at love. I cared about Sanne from the start. Meg took a little more getting used to, but she grew on me. The crimes were bloody--very, very bloody-but realistically so, and not in an offensive way. The story is more police procedural than mystery, so don't expect to solve who dunnit from clues. If the clues had been there, I'm pretty sure Sanne would have figured them out.

4) A long story for its genre but excellent – no wasted words, no padding, and a very satisfying conclusion to the romantic story arc from other books. I marked plot down a couple of points because the backstory could have been explained more clearly. Good characterization even in minor roles; these people are individuals, not stereotypes. Since the series protagonist has had her ups and downs I wasn't sure if she'd be able to overcome the hurdles set up but – EXCELLENT storytelling and a real nail-biter denoument. Brava!

1) For this novel to be Ms. Jendi's first I found it super fantastic. The topic in question is one that, as many say, it's not an easy one to tackle. But Jendi has built a great world within these pages. It is heart-breaking and yet satisfying in the end. It is a well done, well-written book, one that will leave you wanting more out of it. The protagonists, as well as all the people involved within the pages, are quite likable and the reader is simply involved as part of the story. My hat's off to you, Ms. Jendi!

2) This is one of the best books I read for this year’s Rainbow awards. Beautifully written, it touched a chord in me that I can’t quite explain but I will be looking for more from this author.

1) Excellent writing. Suki Fleet is one of the best in the genre. Enthralling tale.

2) Beautifully crafted story that brought tears to my eyes several times. The author is to be commended for drawing a portrait of hope and love for homeless youth.

3) I try hard to think a rating through when it’s very high or very low. I know a perfect ten might at times seem too much, but I just couldn’t find any fault while reading this story. It’s rare to find a book that’s so dark, realistic, and genuine that it makes you cry and shudder and be thankful for everything you’ve got, while planting and nurturing the seed of so much hope. Danny is one of the most engaging and lovable characters I ran across in a while. His search for Dashiel’s killer, his relationships with people in his life, new and old, his quirks, his rambling minds, his struggle to express himself in an environment so harsh, it made me feel cold, physically, while reading, his pure love for Micky and his worry he might be too much, too creepy, everything is so carefully thought out and written, that you can truly imagine this young person, roaming the dreary streets of East London, hunting for sharks. Micky’s character is as well developed as Danny’s, even if he’s more of a project of discovery as you read the book. The lost friend, Dashiel, although present only through Danny’s thoughts and memories, and a few random comments from other minor characters, is as well developed as those still living. Foxes paints a picture of life on the streets of London of young runaways or kids thrown out by their families, as they mingle with predators, other homeless adults, the occasional generous soul, and the thousands and thousands of people who overlook them, unless they want something from them. Foxes does not judge anyone. Not the alcoholic vet, not the creepy, crazy-acting medical professional that Danny suspects of murder, not the actual killer, or the victim. It’s the type of story that, when you’re done reading, has shown you everything in great detail, and lets you decide what you think. Danny and Micky are the most improbably couple I’ve ever read. Although I hoped that somehow they’d be alright in the end, together or apart, I truly feared it wouldn’t happen. The predators roaming the streets at night, illness, hunger, lack of proper shelter, mysterious pasts, everything was stacked against them. I cried and I hoped, and wondered why the world allows young men to live like this, in such poverty and such danger. Foxes will stay with me for a long time, and that’s the most you can ask of a book once you’re done with it. That it makes you think, that it inspires you, and touches your soul.

4) Fleet’s words are magical and enthralling and I was hooked on this story from the first sentence. Don’t come into this expecting a sweet, or short, love story. There is a lot of angst in Foxes. I don’t usually enjoy angst but I loved it here.

1) Once again, this author has impressed me. Each character, including secondaries, were well rounded and felt real. The story moved quick, but not insta-love, and the suspense portion delivered perfectly. You could imagine yourself in the corridors of this hospital, watching the drama unfold.

2) Written from the first person point of view, it was a delightful and heartwarming book, I absolutely and thoroughly enjoyed reading it. This book really grabs a reader and personally I could not put this book down until I finished reading it. The plot is well thought of, the characters jump out of the page and grab you. I recommend it highly!

3) I've not read a hospital drama for ages and what a rollercoaster ride this book was. Although, on occasion, it seemed as though the 2 MCs were going to drown in plot overload, this book had me engaged from start to finish. I loved the supporting cast of Ian's family and how they interacted with him, and David's stalwart friend, Caroline. Written in first person, David's voice is engaging, warm and, at times, humorous. I've not read anything by this author before but will be doing so in the future.

4) This book grabbed me from the first paragraph. A fine balance of budding romance, steamy lust, skillfully-woven intrigue, villains, triumph-over-evil, all-embracing family, cute kids, rags-to-riches, heart of gold prostitute makes good, heart-pounding love to the rescue, all overlaid with a world where LGBT people are seen for what we can accomplish and those who would abuse us are dealt a harsh blow. What's not to like?? A perfect score!

1) I devoured this book. It was a deeply emotional, touching story for me, with beautiful setting descriptions and main characters so real they seemed to jump from the pages. The 1st person present tense POV was perfect to convey Tate's desperation, his agony of mind and his slow, almost reluctant awakening. Also, the writing style with interspersed flashbacks added to the pace of the story and made it even more gripping the longer it went on, the closer it drew to revealing Tate's real reason for his road trip. This was both a beautiful love story and a thought-provoking parable about how one single moment, even a single whim can change lives and fates forever. I couldn't put it down.

1) A compelling, well-crafted, well-written book. The author has a true gift for story-telling, making the most seemingly everyday occurences into this smooth flow you don't want to get out of - and you notice only in hindsight that what seemed mundane was actually the author sneakily weaving her plot. And when the occurences are not everyday? It's breathtaking, literally, and you have to applaud a writer you can do action and urgency just as well as despair and despondency. And on top of that: beautiful, complex, multi-faceted charaters, each carrying his or her own story and secrets, some of which are revealed, some of which are only hinted at. Marvellous and fascinating and utterly brilliant. You could say I enjoyed this book - despite the warnings it came with - and you would not be wrong. (It really was that good).

2) I found my self totally immersed in this very different story of the sea and the creatures that live in the deep. Intense at times, bizarre yet imaginative beyond anything I have read recently.

1) A strong book set at a time that to me is still more the dominion of history lessons and horror and those childhood stories that my grandparents never, ever tell. So not exactly a time that lends itself to romance, and I admit I was sceptical when I first picked this book up. Happily my scepticism was misguided. Instead of the wartime romance I was half-dreading, this book is the story of two men struggling to stay human in an increasingly inhuman world; remembering that the enemy soldier is a human being, too, is just one part of it. Very well done. But then, everything about this book is well done: The plot is solid and gripping and although it jumps ahead in time twice, it doesn’t seem episodic; the characters are all complex and layered, even the secondary characters – even the obligatory super-Nazi was interesting from a meta perspective! – and the protagonists have a depth that is sometimes more hinted at than revealed fully; the setting was evocative and done right – at least, this German reader was very pleased to come across genuine German names as well as properly spelled and grammatically correct German sentences; the writing, finally, flowed smoothly, at a good pace, and managed to keep me up way past my bedtime because I simply could. Not. Stop. Reading. Last but not least, I quite enjoyed seeing the Germans from the American character’s perspective, all those little comments and observations on manners and language, and I couldn’t help grinning at the bit where Mark wonders at Armin’s mood because from his tone of voice he can’t tell whether Armin is annoyed or not, what with German sounding the same all the damn time. :-)

2) Writing as you wish it do be when you look for this kind of reading; well-developed characters; perfect research; and some very little flaws are covered by a gripping story, although dark, mesmerizing.

3) One of the most touching, heartbreaking beautiful story I ever read. Set in a German POW camp at the end of WWII, it is not a easy reading, the covered topics certainly leave its marks on the reader. But you won’t be able to put it down, you need to know how the main characters get to their well deserved happy ending. Be ready to cry, a lot, be ready to get angry, to feel relieved. The authors managed to engage the readers describing the environment and every action with such powerful attention to detail that you can almost see yourself there. There must have been a lot of reserch behind it, a very good job. A book to read at least once in a lifetime.

4) This book wasn’t at all what I was expecting. The setting is about as dramatic as it gets, but the story itself, the development of the romance and the tightly-written scenes between Armin and Mark are surprisingly easy to read. It was so engaging I couldn't put it down.

5) Full marks from me on this excellent story of two men who meet at the 1936 Olympics, have one night of passion and eight years later are reunited during World War II. Armin is the POW camp Commandant where Mark, an American airman is brought when his plane crashes. The men at first are wary of one another, but as time passes the attraction they felt eight years earlier is rekindled and their purpose becomes to save each other's lives, as the Allies close in on a defeated Germany. Couldn't put this down until I had read and savored every word. Without a doubt my favorite book of this year.

1) Simply put, I loved this. The characters practically jump off the page, and I enjoyed the way the author carefully pulled me into this world.

2) This was a long one. Too long in a way because the story kept going without another important climax near the end. I kept expecting the runaway siblings to return because they were so very important to the overall story. It was well written and it was nice to see a mix of paranormal elements with a mentally challenged character. The relationship part, not so much, but it was okay.

3) I thought this story was very well written and will definitely be reading more in this series. It’s not a book I would have bought for myself and was pleasantly surprised when I started reading.

4) One of the things I loved about this story were the characters, especially Brian who isn't a typical 'hero'. He's very complex, and plays a dangerous game in the way he keeps himself safe. I really liked the way his ability had consequences, and that although he knew his brother and sister had made bad decisions he was still loyal to them. The plot too is very layered, and although the action part of it wasn't the end of the story, the rest of it needed to be there. I found it an absorbing read, which kept me hooked from beginning to end. Looking forward to book 2 in the series.

1) Wow! I'm a geek for stories about interstellar travel and time travel. This novel includes both in a rousing story that kept me glued to the pages. I'll definitely have to go back and check out the earlier books in this series.

2) Being the third instalment in a series I have not read, I found parts of this time travel story quite complex and had to re-read sections to understand what was happening. That being said, I love an intelligently written, well developed plot with lots of surprises that makes me think, along with a strong cast of characters, and this book fit the bill perfectly. I have already ordered books 1 and 2 to read once my reading for the Awards is over.

2) I didn't really enjoy this book, I loved it! Scardust really sucked me into the small town, vast desert landscape and left me to negotiate the convoluted twists and turns of the plot by following the carefully laid clues to that wonderful OMG! moment, delightfully discovered before being laid out by the author because this is a book has has you thinking about it even when not reading it. Superb, intelligent writing and a character arc that wrenches the heart strings at times but leads to a HEA. One of the best I've read in a long time. Bravo author, bravo!

3) This was an engaging book from the start. I enjoyed the pace of the story. Each crisis was escalated to the next, and it kept my attention the entire time.

The characters are all very well developed, so much so that at the end of the book they feel real; the story is interesting with the right amount of plot twists that keep the reader engaged but that don’t devolve in the realm of absurd even when unexpected things happens; the writing style is really really good; and the setting is one of the most interesting of all that I have read till now. What make this book even better is the way the author was able to navigate two different times of narration: it never feels like Poppy’s walks down memory lane are a rude interruption of the story, and the contemporary storyline is strong enough to become better thanks to them. Wonderful read!

3) Clare Ashton takes us to a place, the middle of Wales, where we never thought we want to travel and makes us want to go there. She evokes a magical small town and country setting and brings it to life. Rarely does a romance provide the reader with a more vivid sense of place. The plot provides a great combination of whimsy, intensity, heat, with a dash of serious. While not technically a "second chance romance," Poppy Jenkins has the essence of one by giving us a story of close childhood friends, torn apart and then reunited as adults. It's a lovely book.

1) I don't often call a book brilliant anymore. This one, however, deserves it. The summary seems to promise a funny, light-hearted little story about fairy tale characters, a little meta-fiction so to speak. And it is that, yes, but it's also so much more. It's a story that asks big questions, about truth and identity, choices and change. And it's so incredibly well-written, you don't even notice what is happening until you find yourself thinking about it, about the characters' answers and about your own. At the same time, the plot never becomes heavy or weighted down but flows smoothly from chapter to chapter to chapter. Technically solid, entertaining, thought-provoking, this is what I'd call Literature with a capital L. And it's the author's first published novel. I'm so going to buy her next one.)

1) Once again, this author has impressed me. Each character, including secondaries, were well rounded and felt real. The story moved quick, but not insta-love, and the suspense portion delivered perfectly. You could imagine yourself in the corridors of this hospital, watching the drama unfold.

2) Written from the first person point of view, it was a delightful and heartwarming book, I absolutely and thoroughly enjoyed reading it. This book really grabs a reader and personally I could not put this book down until I finished reading it. The plot is well thought of, the characters jump out of the page and grab you. I recommend it highly!

3) I've not read a hospital drama for ages and what a rollercoaster ride this book was. Although, on occasion, it seemed as though the 2 MCs were going to drown in plot overload, this book had me engaged from start to finish. I loved the supporting cast of Ian's family and how they interacted with him, and David's stalwart friend, Caroline. Written in first person, David's voice is engaging, warm and, at times, humorous. I've not read anything by this author before but will be doing so in the future.

4) This book grabbed me from the first paragraph. A fine balance of budding romance, steamy lust, skillfully-woven intrigue, villains, triumph-over-evil, all-embracing family, cute kids, rags-to-riches, heart of gold prostitute makes good, heart-pounding love to the rescue, all overlaid with a world where LGBT people are seen for what we can accomplish and those who would abuse us are dealt a harsh blow. What's not to like?? A perfect score!

1) This book was gorgeous, entertaining and threw enough twists and turns to keep me on my toes.

2) A thoroughly satisfying, sweet, funny, exciting Western-Sci-Fi romp of a novel, with quiet undertones of coming-of-age, discovering who you are and finding your place. Lovely, and I for one will definitely look for more of this author to come.

3) I enjoyed getting to know Jeremy as the man he grew into. He isn’t the bratty trouble-maker anymore. I also enjoyed getting to see him grow into his role as a rider. While there are some inevitable parallels between his relationship with Sapphire and the one between Charlie and Zorevan from Darkness, their story and relationship are all their own.

1) Overall, this imaginative collection of short stories was a joy to read, hosting some wonderfully unique characters and creative plots, all of which were very well written. Three Nights was a full story for such a short tale that had me completely absorbed from start to finish. Beautifully written. Dame Fortune was entertaining and the author showed a wonderful imagination, Aelfwear was charming and entertaining, Into the Hollowed Veil was uniquely creative and emotionally evocative. I may have shed a tear or two over that one.

2) Sometimes these are hard to judge as I have to do the whole book and not just an individual story… So, in saying that I found some stories better than others but they each had something about them that appealed to the readers.

3) This anthology touches on many aspects of queer identity from bisexuality to trans identity to asexuality and beyond. It's refreshing in that respect and more so in its inclusion of fantasy and fairy tales from sources outside just European culture. There's a touch of science fantasy too, a little something for everyone, and I don't mean that in the very limited and privileged context in which it's usually used. Well written and edited with just a few minor errors, this is an anthology worth exploring.

4) Each story's plot isn't something that's particularly new, but the little details and changes that the authors of these stories made are what makes them really special. The plots are straightforward, but the twists make the stories. They're quick, fun reads that are really enjoyable. Good show! Each story had its own feel and voice. I really appreciate how much work the authors put into these and how much care the editor used to curate them. They're all a nice little taste of something, and the variety is amazing. Characters seem to have their own unique voices. At no time did any two characters feel like they were just a mask over a similar voice. They each had motivations and quirks that made them stand apart on their own. Excellent job overall. Good writing overall. Clear, a little slow in pacing, but just enough slowness to make things enjoyable. Strongly Recommend for an Award.

1) Ann's books are always pretty good. As usual, the storyline was great and the scenes flowed effortlessly. I found myself engrossed in the characters and enjoyed myself immensely.

2) I enjoyed this book by Ann McMan. I had to read it 2 times through as I found a lot going on and ALOT of characters.

3) Backcast is a masterpiece of plot weaving and thematic diversity. There are colorful, relatable and three-dimensional characters, and the author has a rare and refreshingly approachable writing style that makes this book so readable. I dare anyone not to shed a tear or two at “essays” 7, 10 and 12.

4) This imaginative author gives us a multi-dimensional story with interesting characters and a relatable story line all wrapped in a unique writing style. Highly recommended.

1) A strong book set at a time that to me is still more the dominion of history lessons and horror and those childhood stories that my grandparents never, ever tell. So not exactly a time that lends itself to romance, and I admit I was sceptical when I first picked this book up. Happily my scepticism was misguided. Instead of the wartime romance I was half-dreading, this book is the story of two men struggling to stay human in an increasingly inhuman world; remembering that the enemy soldier is a human being, too, is just one part of it. Very well done. But then, everything about this book is well done: The plot is solid and gripping and although it jumps ahead in time twice, it doesn’t seem episodic; the characters are all complex and layered, even the secondary characters – even the obligatory super-Nazi was interesting from a meta perspective! – and the protagonists have a depth that is sometimes more hinted at than revealed fully; the setting was evocative and done right – at least, this German reader was very pleased to come across genuine German names as well as properly spelled and grammatically correct German sentences; the writing, finally, flowed smoothly, at a good pace, and managed to keep me up way past my bedtime because I simply could. Not. Stop. Reading. Last but not least, I quite enjoyed seeing the Germans from the American character’s perspective, all those little comments and observations on manners and language, and I couldn’t help grinning at the bit where Mark wonders at Armin’s mood because from his tone of voice he can’t tell whether Armin is annoyed or not, what with German sounding the same all the damn time. :-)

2) Writing as you wish it do be when you look for this kind of reading; well-developed characters; perfect research; and some very little flaws are covered by a gripping story, although dark, mesmerizing.

3) One of the most touching, heartbreaking beautiful story I ever read. Set in a German POW camp at the end of WWII, it is not a easy reading, the covered topics certainly leave its marks on the reader. But you won’t be able to put it down, you need to know how the main characters get to their well deserved happy ending. Be ready to cry, a lot, be ready to get angry, to feel relieved. The authors managed to engage the readers describing the environment and every action with such powerful attention to detail that you can almost see yourself there. There must have been a lot of reserch behind it, a very good job. A book to read at least once in a lifetime.

4) This book wasn’t at all what I was expecting. The setting is about as dramatic as it gets, but the story itself, the development of the romance and the tightly-written scenes between Armin and Mark are surprisingly easy to read. It was so engaging I couldn't put it down.

5) Full marks from me on this excellent story of two men who meet at the 1936 Olympics, have one night of passion and eight years later are reunited during World War II. Armin is the POW camp Commandant where Mark, an American airman is brought when his plane crashes. The men at first are wary of one another, but as time passes the attraction they felt eight years earlier is rekindled and their purpose becomes to save each other's lives, as the Allies close in on a defeated Germany. Couldn't put this down until I had read and savored every word. Without a doubt my favorite book of this year.
