This will be a little less trivial post than usual. As I have said around, and many of you already know, while I'm really happy about the explosion the LGBT fiction and not fiction had in the last few years (more or less from 2006 and on), I cannot manage to read all books publishers and authors are sending me. Since I'm also a bookwhore, it's difficult for me to refuse a book, but I did also that, if I was really sure the book was not my cup of tea. But if an author/publisher sends me a review request of a book that is inside the genre I like? Well it's like a sweet torture, I'm really not able to say no, it's an addiction.

I can really relate with what happened recently to a fellow reviewer; I can understand the pressure, and maybe there are other reasons behind some facts that we don't know. Plus I totally understand when someone slashes back if he is attacked by multiple sides and he is alone: the net can be real cruel and isolation seems even worse.

So please, readers, authors, publishers, realize that if someone you sent a book has not read it timely, it's not that they didn't like it, it's probably that it's one up and two/three downs, we are only human. If you want, and like, a personal blog due to the coherent trend of one only reviewer, than you have also to understand that that lonely blogger has to make choices (what book to read what book not) that sometime you will not like.

Wow. Is this what's on the list to read, or what's been read? You are a busy woman!

Unfortunately what is on the reading list, meaning that there are books that are still out of it

Someone attacked a reviewer for not reviewing??? What an idiot! Like that's going to gain them good conduct points. No matter how many review sites there are, any one reviewer has only so mmany hours in the day to spare for reading, and only one pair of eyes. They do a terrific job, and most of us who submit books to be reviewed know we're in a mountain-sized lottery.

Elisa, and any other reviewer reading this - keep up the good work, it is MUCH appreciated *g*

No really attached and I can talk only for myself (but I think it's common also for others), but yes, I was notified that a publisher was no more willing to send me books since I had a backlog of titles previously sent and not read. We made an agreement 2 books read 1 book sent, but sincerely it didn't work so good and in the end, I decided to renounce to be on their reviewers list. If I want to read a book by them, I will buy it.

hi, Elisa
You should take me off your list. I meant to tell you. Sorry! Thank you.
(I hope you are not feeling too buried under all those books and that you're having fun reading them. It should never be a chore.)

Didn't you tell me that probably you were re-re-easing that with another publisher?

It won't be out for a while (and it will be edited). And I'm still encouraging you not to review it, anyway.:D You have way too much on your plate already. But if you feel like reading it later on only for fun, I'd be very happy to snail you a print copy. I owe you that much. Thanks, Elisa.

Geez, that's a lot.

Trust Me by Jeff Erne should definitely be at the top of your list to read. It was amazing.

ah, i see. Well, I have faith you'll get through it all. Don't think I'd be able to follow an order though. I read based on my mood.

That is a heck of a book list! You are a superwoman to consider tackling it. Do you have friends who enjoy romance who you could rope in to share the task? You shouldn't have to do it all alone - it's too much for anyone.

not near me no, and then this is my journal, so I think the only solution is to admit that I will not read all of them :-(

I only hope that such a long list does not turn reading that should be a joy into a burden. We do appreciate your reviews and all the thought that goes into them.

Thank you Storm, but it's probably faster in this way ;-) I read paperback only when I'm travelling, train and airplane, otherwise I read on my laptop.

Wow, Elisa, I'm speechless. This is a gargantuan list and it's only grown since last time. I have to echo what others have said here -- definitely do what you need to do to keep reviewing fun. I stopped reviewing on request and started buying only what I was interested in. Maybe take some steps like that? It definitely should be a source of happiness for you and not anxiety. :)

Date: 2010-12-15 08:12 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] elisa-rolle.livejournal.com
I still buy at least a 30% of what I read, and if they don't send me the books, in any case I'm buying them... it's almost an addiction, I cannot resist. But the solution to be upfront with the publisher was worthy it, loosing 1 publisher but gaining in relax
