After my post on the Top 50 Gay Romance, I decided to follow the lead and try to contact all the authors on the list to ask them if they are interested in a guest author post on my LiveJournal.

Obviously I began from the first: this morning Andre Aciman has very kindly reply to my email and he will wrote a brief post for me on his novel. I will post it on June, I will keep you posted.

ETA: [profile] murokusuggested that I create a short meme of 5 questions to ask to all the guest author. Since I'm not very skilled on this matter, I will ask to my friend list what they would like to ask and I will draw up the five more interesting question. Yes, I know, I'm a lazy girl and I will make you do all the work!

Suggested Questions:

1) Could you tell us about your writing "process"?

2) What are the best and worst aspects of being an author?

3) Once your book is finished do you rely only on the editor feedback or do you take also other measures to be sure that your work can be enjoyed by other people?

4) What are some taboos subject you will not write?

5) Are your loved ones and friends supportive of your writing?

6) What do you do to celebrate after finishing a story?

7) Have you ever cried as you wrote a story---if so which title?

8) What attracted you to writing gay romance?

9) What do you find most challenging about writing gay romance?

10) What is your favorite character from all your stories and why?

11) What books did you read that inspired you to become a writer

12) What's the best thing anyone has said to you about one of your books?

I'd be thrilled - and by the way, have you received a review copy of our new trilogy, Speak Its Name?

Ciao Lee. I will arrive also to you :-) And no, I haven't received it, it's just out? Lately I haven't received the review copies by Linden Bay, I was wondering if they still send them. Elisa

I think LBR has a lot of new stuff in the works--and they went to a couple of conventions as well... they have to sleep sometime! They've changed teh website, too, and brought a new promo person aboard, so if you don't hear from someone soon, you could email them and ask. We (Eraastes, Charlie and I) don't have the final galley, but I have a nearly-perfect copy I can send. Publication date is June 1, so there's still a bit of time.

I received an email from Aciman a while ago, too, thanking me for my review of his book (http://haydenthorne.com/review-call-me-by-your-name-by-andre-aciman/). He was really sweet, and I was squeeing like the sad little fangirl that I am.

For me it was a really surprise since he replied to me in Italian (as always I prayed forgivness for my English).

He is a very kind man, if all the authors were like him, the publishing world would be wonderful. But I'm lucky, till now I have only met wonderful people.

For the guest bloggers can you design a short meme they can answer on a voluntary basis? Maybe 5 questions at the end of the blog entry. I would love to read their responses (^_^).

As I wrote to Mr Aciman, I dare not to ask for an interview, I'm not so skilled. But your idea sounds interesting. Why don't you tell me your "possible" question? And now I will add a call to all my friends and in the end I will draw the five questions that will become the short meme.

Here are some ideas:

1) What are some taboos subject you will not write?

2) Are your loved ones and friends supportive of your writing?

3) What do you do to celebrate after finishing a story?

4) Have you ever cried as you wrote a story---if so which title?

5) (If the writer is a straight woman) What attracted you to writing gay romance?

muroku suggested that I create a short meme of 5 questions to ask to all the guest author

Yes, it's really nice idea because writers are usually shy.
I'm sure what they want to say is "Buy my book!" and "Thank you for reading/buying my book!" :D

I wish you good work and nice cooperation!

Hi Elisa,

That's quite a coup, to have Andre Aciman participate! Good for you!

As for questions, I'm always curious about how authors do their work, so you might ask about their "process" of writing.

You could also have a question about what your guests feel are the best and worst aspects of being an author.

Cheers,
Lee B.

Truepenny (http://truepenny.livejournal.com/) had an interesting entry (http://truepenny.livejournal.com/577652.html) in her journal about how it is sometimes difficult but nonetheless important for a writer to keep in focus, that most readers have a different way of reading a book than the writer itself. She emphasizes in that regard how important (even if sometimes cause for a hysterical freak out) the editorial feedback is.

So my question would be how the writer makes sure that he or she doesn't get lost in his or her own style of writing, so that the end result can be enjoyed by everyone. Do they only rely on the editorial feedback in that regard or which other steps and measures do they take (not sure the sentence is proper English, sounds strange)?

How about:

1) What do you find most challenging about writing gay romance?

2) What is your favorite character from all your stories and why?

what a very neat idea. I have to admit, as an author, I'm not great at answering questions about process, as I tend to be a "storyteller", not a method or process writer. So I like the questions like what books did you read that inspired you to become a writer, or what's the best thing anyone has said to you about one of your books?

Good! I will add them to the list. I think I will take all the question and let free the authors to pick what they like. Elisa
