I was an earlier admirer of G.A. Hauser West Hollywood/Los Angeles series, mixing show business stars with dream lovers like cops and firefighters, but I have to admit I lost tracks in the last few months. So it was a bit I haven’t read anything by this author, and as soon as I started Happy Endings, I had the feeling she had matured, her writing seemed more clean and cut, less focused on the sex for the sake of sex and a little more directed to the search of Mr Right.

Kellie is a masseur in an exclusive West Hollywood gym, but even if he had past experiences on Happy Endings when he was the one flat back, he doesn’t want to risk his current job giving the same to his customers. And he is not even tempted, at least not until Monty is the one receiving a massage.

Monty is a former Navy Seal turned entrepreneur; he has just open a training facility for civilians near Kellie’s gym, and he absolutely needs a good massage to let the stress go away. He is not searching for Happy Endings, and that is the reason, being gay, why he asked for a female masseur. But “Kellie” is not a woman at all, and the sparks will fly between the two of them.

I really liked the “comfortable” vibes between Kellie and Monty; there were sparks, but they were real characters, with ordinary troubles, work, money, relationships. Even when the drama could go out of track, like in the case of Kellie’s former boyfriend, the author chose to maintain an “average” mood, no heated feelings, no unnecessary drama. Kellie and Monty had it a little hard to find, but in the end, they were able to find their “Happy Ending”, even if they were not searching for it.

I have only a very minor complain, nothing so big to ruin my reading experience though: it irked me that Kellie was always repeating how he lost his job and house due to the economic downfall, one or two time was enough, but he was really obsessed by it… maybe it was natural, since it was a drastic change in his life, but I read it like he was still upset, even if he managed to find an alternative career path, so upset that he was almost not ready to catch his chance at happiness.

The novel is set in the same universe as the Action series, but since it's not strictly related, I'm not listening it under that series.
