Ki'iri by L.E. Bryce

In a fantasy world full of mythology, Daro is a senu, a man with the ability to speak with the hrills, sea creatures who help the fishermen in their work. Daro is young and little knows about the world. He only wants to please the Lady of the Waters, the goddess who protects him and his world.

One day he meets Arion: he speaks to him in the form of a hrill but he is a taleve, one of the Lady's lovers, who live in the Blue House, protects by the priests. Arion is lonely and wants only exchange some words and some informations with Daro. But days passes and Daro begins to undestand that his interest in Arion is not only friendship and the feeling is mutual. But it is not allows to love a taleve, they are fated to the Lady of the Waters.

Arion is a supporting character: he is beautiful and handsome, but not a man of strong passions. He loves Daro, and wants to protect him, but, even if Daro is younger and weaker, he gives a stronger impression than Arion.

Daro is young and willing; he accepts the destiny the Lady of the Waters has chosen for him without questioning. He only hopes to stay with Arion, but if the Lady wants something else for him, he will subsided to her will. Nevertheless he doesn't give me the impression of a character without wit.

This is a gentle tale: a tale of love, but not of pain. Usually when I read about priests and goddess, I always meet hate and trouble, but in this tale you have a peaceful flows of events. The Lady of the Waters is not a negative character and the priests are not evil creatures who want to hide and corretc the shameful behaviour of Daro.

Becoming by L.E. Bryce

After Ki'iri, L.E. Bryce returns to the fantastic world of the Lady of the Waters and of her lovers, the beautiful taleve. In Becoming we have glimpses of Arion and Daro, but the story is all about Olenwe and Ninion.

Ninion is an 18 years old guy that, for some uncofessable secrets chose to drow himself. But the Lady of the Waters makes him her lover and he is brought to the Blue House, among the others taleve. Olenwe, a bit older taleve, is immediately drawn by this young and begins to woving him. But Ninion seems to be embarassed by the man and also by his reaction to him.

If you search for reckless sex among young beautiful men, this novel is not for you. The journey of Ninion in his adulthood is written with delicacy and tenderness. Olenwe, despite his different upbringing (he is a former fisherman, while Ninion is from aristocracy), treats Ninion like a precious thing and insinuates himself in his like with small gifts and costant presence. Without consciousness, Ninion begins to turn to Olenwe for everything, and in the end, also for love.

Like in other works I have read by hers, L.E. Bryce has a poetic writing style, which can hardly classify her works like erotic, and which distinguishes her among the other M/M authors.

Marek is a slovakian spy who work for the US government. He is very smart and good, and very young, only 24 years old. He is not handsome in a classical way and he is also a little crabby, mostly due to his shyness when he is not on duty. So he is overwhelmed by the open and friendly Tyrone, the Afro American cook who works for the Agency's cafeteria.

Tyrone has a sweet tooth for this young man and manages to make find him delicious course every time he snugs in the cafeteria late in the night. And the last time he finds the courage to asks him out and they start a sweet relationship, far from work. But work calls and Tyrone has to deal with Marek's life and overpasses his nurtuting nature who pushes him to be protective.

Marek is young and not used to be loved, even if around him many persone care for him, much more he thinks of. And like who has never known a gentle touch, he falls for the first person who touches him. Tyrone is a big but tender man; not beautiful, maybe also overweight, but it is not physical appeareance who seeks Marek. Moreover, the big body of Tyrone makes him feel secure.

I like very much the relationship between Marek and Tyrone, so much that I'm a little disconcerted and not at all pleased with the switch we have in the end. Not want to make spoiler, you have to read it to know why. Before it happens, I was very satisfied with this book. Maybe it's my old way of think, maybe I believe is not to much realistic and according with Marek and Tyrone's characters... but as I say, overall I like J.J. Massa's style and I will reading more about her.

This is a story sweet like the cookies in the title.

Vanko is an ukrainan professor who arrives in US on a search project. He is like a child, but not cause he is a stranger blinded by all the good things he finds in dreamland America, but because he is lost in his mind, in his research and nothing other matters for him. He doesn't seen the malice and jealousness in people around him, he everytime thinks to doing something wrong.

But Galahad (when name is more appropriate) sees it and wants to protect this beautiful little man, even from himself. Galahad is a playboy, a bisexual who has always searched for physical pleasure and can't mix with this innocent guy, who has never kissed before. But like in the old classical story, in the end Galahad has to admit that he can't suffer to see Vanko in the arm of someone else, and maybe his great experience can be only a plus in teaching Vanko all the joy of sex.

Vanko is the classical professor type: too distracted from his work to mind the world around him and so naive and cute, you don't know if you want to shrug him or cuddle him. Galahad is the hero, the knight in shining armor, no one before believes him a good person, and now he has this guy who looks up to him with big and hungry eyes.

An enjoyble reading who left me with the curiosity to know what happens to Taylish...
