Eric Gibbons' classical figure studies have become internationally popular and are in exhibitions in Paris, London, Provincetown MA, Asbury Park NJ, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New Hope and more.

Gibbons' boxes are his environments, his still lifes and his visual voice. They speak to both him and his audience. Some figures confront while others recede, some welcome your gaze and others outright reject you. The limited color, subject and space create a powerfully focused and iconic image that expresses the artist's prejudices, apprehensions, aspirations and ideals. Gibbons draws themes and images from classical painters like Michelangelo, Ingres and Neo, and Classicist, Jacques-Louis David.

This series was inspired by the artist's 2004 trip to Paris and days spent at the Louvre. Gibbons had been painting the classical figure for years within minimal environments that would often enter the negative space of the form. The box has become the anchor for his message and the framework of his art. It is the package that separates his figures from our world and his art from other modern painting masters. Keep in mind, these works are nearly life-size, and in black and white oil.

"As we figuratively create boxes to put people in … I create figures and put them in boxes." – E. Gibbons

Though his studio is the Firehouse Gallery, direct sales are not taken here but through the galleries that represent his work. Though the bulk of his work is black and white, he does work in color and in various media including oils, acrylics, watercolors and inks.

The Firehouse Gallery is one of Bordentown's earliest firehouses. A Victorian structure built in 1886, it first underwent renovation by Juanita Crosby who purchased the structure in 1969. Mr. E. Gibbons then bought the firehouse in 1995 and in 2003 converted it into the home and studio it is now.

From 1995 to 2004 the gallery had hosted many exhibitions of local and international artists, poetry and music events and even some evenings of opera. Due to the expanding popularity of the owner's work, however, the Gallery became the exclusive studio for showcasing his artwork beginning in 2005. His work is now showing internationally and has been featured in several major art publications like ArtNEWS magazine.

Gibbons' main focus is in three main genres of art. Foremost are his classical figurative studies in oil paint reminiscent of classical paintings of the 1800s with a dash of neo-classical drama. This would also include formal portraits commissioned by private collectors and corporate headquarters. He also works in a loose style known to Matisse fans as "Automatic Drawings" or blind line drawings with forced color on occasion. Gibbons also dabbles in experimental Polaroid photography. He produced a popular series based on the Wizard of Oz, on display at the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

As an important player in both the American Revolution and Underground Railroad, Bordentown is one of New Jersey's oldest historic cities and renowned for its wonderful history in the arts.

Thomas Payne, Prince Philip of Spain (Brother of Napoleon) and Clara Barton all made Bordentown their home. This "little city with a lot of charm", boasts several galleries and fine restaurants and is gently hugged by the Delaware River. In a way or the other, the previous 4 stories in the Screen Shots series were about a couple or at least a triplet; then, it’s true, they all played together, and as I said before, the feeling was of a community based on love. One by one, all the men involved in twentysomethingtwinks.com, the porn website specialized in pretty twinks, found their match, and in the end, there is a spared one, the cameraman, Jake.

Jake is a college student who is writing his dissertation on the modern sex industry; he really tried to face things with the right distance, to not be involved in the game, but it was like taking a kid on a candy shop and saying him not to eat anything. Thank to a lucky coincidence, Jake and 9 of the twentysomethingtwinks.com “employees” (3 couples and a triplet) are trapped in the basement of the former farm converted in headquarter of the firm, and they all think it’s time to make Jake feel welcomed in their “family”.

It’s not only a surprise for Jake, but also for the reader: Jake will not play the role of the toy for all of them, but instead he will take the lead; more, he will also top Gabriel, the big bad boy who is the boss man in the triplet with Brandon and Dylan. This is a nice novella, and in a way even traditional, usually at the end of a loved series, authors write a wrap up story, where all the main characters of the previous books get together and celebrate their love, and so they do here; I have only a small complaint: Jake enjoys it all, and fully embraces the twentysomethingtwinks.com’s philosophy, but in the end, he is only a temporary player, he is not really a steady addition for any of the previous matched men; true he is having the time of his life, but I wouldn’t mind to see him paired with someone with whom he can go back at home when the game is over.

I have already noticed in previous short stories, that Jack Greene loves the pretty men; if wearing makeup and with long hair even better. And these elf-like beauties are there to lighten up the day of some working class man who almost lost hope to find happiness; average men who usually are handsome and nice, but not exceptional; those men you are lucky to find, but if you are not careful enough, you don’t recognize.

Ashton is one of those men: probably thirty or something like that, he has a good job and a nice wife, but he doesn’t really like neither. He has always played buy the rules, when he was in college he tried to follow his dream to be a photographer, but he ended up marrying his boss daughter and being a salesman. When he meets by chance Hayden, the pretty bartender of a pub on the way from work to home, at first Ashton doesn’t understand why he is so attracted by him. Ashton is not gay, he is not in the closet and he is married, all good reasons to not being attracted by Hayden.

I have the feeling that Ashton doesn’t consider himself straight, gay or bisexual; Ashton simply loves beauty, with an artist eyes, and Hayden is a perfect example of beauty. What draws Ashton is not Hayden sassiness of flirting, but his perfect bone structure; and then yes, Hayden makes Ashton feel wanted, something his wife stopped doing many years before. Ashton’s wife conquered him in the same way, pursuing him, courting and wooing him; now that she stopped, Ashton feels lost, like he has no reason to be. Ashton is not selfish, but for sure he is a man who needs his ego stroked; he is well aware that he is nothing special, on the average, but it takes very little to make him happy, just few words and a welcoming embrace. And in Hayden he finds all of that.

Picture Perfect is not referred only to Ashton’s passion for photography, but also to his idea of happiness, a perfect picture of a relationship. Doesn’t matter if, digging in, problem are still out there, Ashton and Hayden can find a little piece of paradise in each other.
