Today author is Ethan Day: I am a gay man living in Missouri...I can hear the gasps already!! How very un-chic of me, yes I know. It was here I was born and here I have stayed. The youngest of four children and the only boy, I’ve always suffered from an extravagant fantasy life. When I played with my Star Wars action figures as a child, I liked to make up my own stories. Naturally, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo were totally meant for each other, and Princess Leia made a bitchin' wise cracking Fag Hag. I managed to survive high school living in a small, racist town in Southeast Missouri and emerged unscathed, realizing life was too short to pretend to be anything other than who I was. It was very Lifetime Movie Network meets After School Special, I assure you. After several stints in college, I signed up for a Creative Writing course, choosing the class because there were no tests. For once my scholastic laziness paid off, and I found an outlet for all the fantasies running amuck inside my head. It was love at first write, and I've been doing it off and on ever since.

Duncan Stalker (1955 - May 6, 1991)

Duncan Stalker was a senior editor of Vanity Fair magazine. He died on May 6, 1991, at his home in Manhattan. He was 36 years old.

He died of complications from AIDS, his family said.

Mr. Stalker was a native of Bridgewater, N.J., and a graduate of Princeton University. He was managing editor of Manhattan, inc. and executive editor of Conde Nast's Traveler before joining Vanity Fair.

Henry David Thoreau (July 12, 1817 – May 6, 1862)

In essays, journals, and poems, Henry David Thoreau recorded impassioned expressions of the beauty and the agony of love between men.

Thoreau was born in Concord, Massachusetts, on July 12, 1817. He attended the newly founded Concord Academy and, after taking several leaves from his studies to earn money and to regain his health after his first attack of tuberculosis, went on to graduate from Harvard with the class of 1837.

Thoreau is perhaps best known for his stay at Walden Pond, chronicled in Walden (1854), and his night in jail after refusing to pay a poll tax to a government that supported the Mexican War and endorsed slavery. He wrote about this latter act of protest in "Resistance to Civil Government," popularly known as "Civil Disobedience," an essay that has inspired many, including Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr.

In addition to Walden and his well-known speeches and essays on antebellum social concerns, he wrote A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers (1849), based on a canoe trip he took with his brother, John.

Thoreau kept voluminous journals and wrote essays about nature, perception, and science, many of which were published posthumously. These include The Maine Woods, Cape Cod, and the recently compiled Natural History Essays and Faith in a Seed.

Thoreau died May 6, 1862, of tuberculosis, the same disease that had earlier killed both his brother and father.

Best Gay Paranormal Romance: Hainted by Jordan L. Hawk

This is the first book I read by this author, but even if I’m not sure, I suppose this is not a debut novel. The story is too polished, and the hand too expert for this to be a tryout, I really had the feeling I was reading the product of a skilled author. I have to be true, ghosts and zombies are not really my thing, and I was not really sure I wanted to continue reading it when I realized where the story was going, but the characters got me, and I couldn’t leave without knowing what was of them.

Goth-beauty Leif and farm-boy Dan were apparently a stereotype, and I was already imagining them playing by the “rules”, emo-style and all; but that is not what happened, and actually the author spent a great deal of time to build their relationship, giving time to them and to the reader to be really sure what was happening wasn’t something fading away in few hours of passions. The romance part of the story was well plotted as it was the paranormal-horror.

It’s not the first time I read about this type of horror, but I tend to not like it too much for the gruesome details; in Hainted, the author managed to have all the horror and tension with less “splatter”. I don’t know, it’s not easy to explain, but it was like she was more contained, less searching for the exploitation, but maintaining all the scariness anyway. Sure Hainted is not for the fainting reader, but nevertheless it can be within the range of who doesn’t mind a little bit of horror if the romance is good.

My compliments to Jordan L. Hawk to manage a self-published book which had all the feeling of a consummate author’s novel.
