Anna Gurney and Sarah-Maria Buxton are buried together at the Church of St Martin, Overstrand, Norfolk. Their Tombstone reads: “They were partners and chosen Sisters knit together in the Love of God, and Heirs together of Eternal Life, through Christ Jesus.” Anna Gurney was a British scholar specialising in Old English and a member of the Gurney family. In 1825, after the death of her mother, Anna Gurney went to reside at Northrepps Cottage, near Cromer, with Miss Sarah-Maria Buxton.
