Anna Gurney and Sarah-Maria Buxton are buried together at the Church of St Martin, Overstrand, Norfolk. Their Tombstone reads: “They were partners and chosen Sisters knit together in the Love of God, and Heirs together of Eternal Life, through Christ Jesus.” Anna Gurney was a British scholar specialising in Old English and a member of the Gurney family. In 1825, after the death of her mother, Anna Gurney went to reside at Northrepps Cottage, near Cromer, with Miss Sarah-Maria Buxton. The lady died in 1839, and Miss Gurney continued to inhabit the cottage for the remainder of her life.

Brandon Teena (December 12, 1972 – December 31, 1993) was an American trans man who was raped and murdered in Humboldt, Nebraska. His life and death were the subject of the Academy Award-winning 1999 film Boys Don't Cry, which was partially based on the 1998 documentary film The Brandon Teena Story. Both films also illustrated that legal and medical discrimination contributed to Teena's violent death. Teena's murder, along with that of Matthew Shepard, led to increased lobbying for hate crime laws in the United States.

Bessy Marbury was born and raised in the affluent and cultured home of one of 19th century New York's oldest and most prominent "society" families. Elizabeth Arden’s name is a household word; her line of cosmetics are popular in the world. She invented the beauty industry at a time when most women were preparing their own lotions and creams at home. Using artful packaging to convey an image of quality, Arden collaborated with a chemist to create the first “scientific” makeup formulations. She introduced modern eye makeup to America, and created the concept of the makeover. In the 1930s, it was said that there were only three American names known in every corner of the globe: Singer Sewing Machines, Coca-Cola, and Elizabeth Arden. Less well known was Arden’s intimate relationship with literary agent Bessie Marbury. It was perhaps a case of opposites attract: Arden was beautiful, fit, and politically conservative, while Marbury was an older, obese political firebrand. While they were together, Arden supported her girlfriend’s Democratic fundraising and feminist activities. They spent many weekends at Marbury’s Maine home, Lakeside Farm. After Marbury’s death in 1933, Arden bought the property with the intention of fulfilling Marbury’s wish that it be turned into a home for working women—though it eventually became part of a luxury resort instead.

Felice Rahel Schragenheim was a Jewish resistance fighter during World War II. She is known for her tragic love story with Lilly Wust and death during a march from Gross-Rosen concentration camp (today Poland) to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany or, not later than, March 1945 in Bergen-Belsen. Erica Fischer portrays the story of the relationship between Schragenheim and Wust in the 1999 film Aimée & Jaguar, by director Max Farberbock, and in a book by the same name. It is also the subject of the 1997 documentary Love Story: Berlin 1942. “Felice, I love you! What a feeling it is to be able to say that! Oh, Felice, the nicest fate I could hope for is that of lasting happiness. I want to live with you for a long, a very long time, do you hear? And life is so beautiful, so wonderful. Felice, do you belong to me - without limit? To me only? Please say you do, at least for a very long time to come, please! Do you love me? Grace Nicholson was an American art collector and art dealer, specializing in Native American and Chinese handicrafts. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Nicholson attended Philadelphia High School for Girls, graduating in the class of 1896. She briefly worked as a stenographer after high school. In 1901, using her inheritance, Nicholson moved to California, and soon opened a small shop in Pasadena, selling Native American handicrafts such as baskets and weaving. In 1924, she designed a new building for her collections, which (reflective of changing fashions) had begun to focus on Asian art. The architectural firm of Marston, Van Pelt & Maybury worked with Nicholson to realize her vision. Her design, nicknamed the "Treasure House," borrowed elements from buildings she had seen in China. The building was opened as an art gallery and shop in 1925, although the interior garden courtyard was not completed until 1929. Her building was deeded to the City of Pasadena in 1943, but she continued to live in her private apartment on the second floor until her death from cancer in 1948. Nicholson was an active charter member of the Zonta Club of Pasadena, and hosted meetings at her home, including a 1929 Christmas party attended by Amelia Earhart. She was the art patron of Lilian May Miller.

Henry Gerber (June 29, 1892–December 31, 1972) was the founder of Chicago’s Society for Human Rights in 1924, the first gay rights organization in the United States. Henry Gerber was born in Bavaria as Joseph Henry Dittmar on June 29, 1892, and arrived at Ellis Island in October, 1913. With members of his family, he moved to Chicago because of its large German population. After working briefly at Montgomery Ward, he was interned as an alien during World War I. From 1920 to 1923 he served with the U.S. Army of Occupation of Germany and during this time, he came into contact with the German homosexual emancipation movement. He subscribed to German homophile magazines and was in contact with Magnus Hirschfeld's Scientific-Humanitarian Community in Berlin. In 1924, Gerber returned to Chicago and was hired by the post office. With several friends, Gerber formed an organization which was later incorporated as The Society for Human Rights, a nonprofit corporation in the State of Illinois. The organization published a newsletter, Friendship and Freedom, which was distributed to its small membership. In July, 1925, the society came to an abrupt end. The wife of one of the co-founders reported her husband, a reputed bisexual, to her social worker who contacted the police. Following a police raid, Gerber and several others were arrested and prosecuted for their deviancy. The case against Gerber was dismissed but he lost his entire life savings defending himself. After his ordeal, Gerber moved to New York City where he reenlisted in the U.S. Army and served for 17 years. During the 1930s he managed a personal correspondence club and wrote articles in gay publications under a pseudonym. The correspondence club became a national communications network for gay men. On December 31, 1972, Gerber died at the U.S. Soldiers' and Airmen's Home in Washington, D.C., at the age of 80. He lived to see the Stonewall Rebellion and the start of a new era of activist gay and lesbian liberation organizations.

Isabella of Parma (Isabella Maria Luisa Antonietta Ferdinanda Giuseppina Saveria Domenica Giovanna; 31 December 1741 – 27 November 1763) was the daughter of Infante Felipe of Spain, Duke of Parma and his wife Louise Élisabeth, eldest daughter of Louis XV of France and Maria Leszczyńska. At 18, Isabella was married to Archduke Joseph of Austria, later Joseph II, with whom she was not happy, finding more fulfilment in her close friendship with his sister Archduchess Maria Christina, who later became, by marriage, Duchess of Saxony-Teschen. The two women seemed to have a romantic lesbian affair. During the few years Isabella and Christina knew each other, they exchanged 200 letters and "billets" while living at the same court. Only the letters of Isabella have been preserved; those of Maria Christina were destroyed after her death. The difficult birth of her daughter Maria Theresa, followed by two miscarriages, affected Isabella's mental condition, and she died soon after giving birth to another stillborn daughter.

A dancer with New York City Opera Ballet, Western Ballet, Netherlands Dance Theater, and Milwaukee Ballet, Jorge Samaniego choreographed for Puerto Rican Dance Theater and the Des Moines Ballet in Iowa. In 1978, the Des Moines Ballet directed their attention towards a more professional presentation and retained Jorge Samaniego as Artistic Director and Kenneth MacDonald as Associate Artistic Director. They provided the necessary expertise and artistic direction to make the company a reality in a very short time. Dance Magazine lists as Samaniego's surviving companion Kenneth MacDonald. On the AIDS quilt, MacDonald did for Samaniego, he wrote: "To Jorge Samaniego, my tears, my love, Kenneth" Kenneth MacDonald died of AIDS in 1995. On another panel, they are listed together, side by side.

Lois Eileen Bierkortte (April 12, 1921 - December 31, 2009) and Mary Anne Evans (March 19, 1931 - April 1980) are both buried at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia, USA. Mary Anne Evans, died in 1980, aged 49, and is buried at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Wheeling. She was a lesbian, although the word was never used in her family. She and her life partner, Lois, lived together in a small house on Third Street in Marietta. Lois died on New Year's Eve fo 2009 in an assisted living facility in Wheeling. On her obituary online from The Wheeling News-Register there was no mention Mary Anne preceding her in death. They are buried in the same cemetery, but not together.Lois Eileen Bierkortte of Wheeling, WV, formerly of Martins Ferry, Ohio, died on December 31, 2009 in Good Shepherd Nursing Home. She was born April 12, 1931, in Wheeling, a daughter of the late Henry A. and Eva Mary Weitzel Bierkortte.She was a 1949 graduate of St. Joseph Academy, Wheeling, a former employee of the Hillsboro Ohio Gas Company, and a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Martins Ferry.

Maud May Babcock (May 2, 1867 – December 31, 1954) was the first female member of the University of Utah's faculty. She taught at the university for 46 years, beginning in 1892. While there she established the University Theater, originated the first college dramatic club in the United States, directed over 300 plays and occasionally taught. She wrote five books on speech and elocution, and was a renowned traveler and lecturer. In addition to her professional interests in drama and elocution, she also favored women's suffrage and was a crusader against wasp-waist corsets. She was famed in Utah for her success in bringing big-name talent to the state. Along with all of her work in physical education and theater, Babcock was the first woman to serve as chaplain in the Utah senate.

Orry-Kelly was the professional name of Orry George, a prolific Hollywood costume designer. He studied art in Sydney, and worked as a tailor's apprentice and window dresser. He journeyed to New York to pursue an acting career. He shared an apartment there with Charlie Spangles and Cary Grant. At the time, Cary Grant was Archibald Leach. Kelly and Grant carried on a domestic existence as a gay couple, developing a reputation for throwing wild parties. A job painting murals in a nightclub led to his employment by Fox East Coast studios illustrating titles. He designed costumes and sets for Broadway's Shubert Revues and George White's Scandals. Kelly went to Hollywood in 1932, working for all the major studios and designed for all the great actresses of the day, including Bette Davis, Kay Francis, Olivia de Havilland, Katharine Hepburn, Dolores del Río, Ava Gardner, Ann Sheridan, Barbara Stanwyck, and Merle Oberon. While in Los Angeles, he was living with Milton Owen, a former stage manager, a relationship that was acknowledged also by Kelly's mother. When he died, his pallbearers included Cary Grant, Tony Curtis, Billy Wilder and George Cukor and Jack Warner read his eulogy.

Rick Sandford was born December 31, 1950, in Denver, Colorado. After his graduation in 1969, he moved to Los Angeles to see the musical, Hair and the Russian motion picture version of War and Peace. After 1972, Sandford remained in Los Angeles employed in various positions, from an usher at Grauman's Chinese Theatre to a television show stand-in. He received credit as a "research assistant" on 50 Golden Years of Oscar: the Official History of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and Ronald Haver's David O. Selznick's Hollywood. Along the way Sandford appeared on television shows and in motion pictures as an extra and in a few bit parts. During the late 1970s and early 1980s he worked as an editor on 3 gay erotic films and appeared as Benjamin Barker or Ben Barker in 13 gay erotic motion pictures including Kip Noll and the Westside Boys, Rear Deliveries, Skin Deep, The Class of '84 Part 2 Jocks, Gold Rush Boys, The Boys of San Francisco, A Night at Halsted's, and Games. In the mid 1980s, Don Bachardy sketched Sandford for his book, Drawing of the Male Nude. He also served as an assistant on the 1990 documentary Hollywood Mavericks. In 1991, his short story "Forster & Rosenthal Reevaluated: An Investigative Report" was published in the anthology, Indivisible: New Short Fiction by Gay and Lesbian West Coast Writers. In 1994, another of his short stories, "Purim" was published in Blood Whispers: L.A. Writers on AIDS, Volume 2. He died of AIDS during the evening of September 28, 1995. Two more of Sandford's short stories were published posthumously, "The Gospel Of Bartholemew Legate: Three Fragments" in His 2: Brilliant New Fiction by Gay Writers and"Manifest White" in His 3: Brilliant New Fiction by Gay Writers. In 2000, his novel, Boys Across the Street was published.

Samuel M. Steward, also known by the pen name Phil Andros, was a novelist and tattoo artist from Ohio, later based in Oakland. Thornton Wilder was an American playwright and novelist. He won three Pulitzer Prizes—for the novel The Bridge of San Luis Rey and for the two plays Our Town and The Skin of Our Teeth—and a U.S. National Book Award for the novel The Eighth Day. Gertrude Stein, who at the time regularly corresponded with the both of them, introduced Steward to Wilder. Wilder drafted the third act of Our Town during a brief visit by Steward in Zurich, their first meeting. They began a sexual friendship then that lasted 11 years. Steward kept records of his many sexual encounters in a card index he called his "Stud File". They included Rudolph Valentino (a month before his death at 31, when Steward was 17) and Roy Fitzgerald Douglas (who became Rock Hudson). Secret Historian: The Life and Times of Samuel Steward, Professor, Tattoo Artist, and Sexual Renegade by Justin Spring was published in 2010. The book was the recipient of many literary honors, and was a finalist for the National Book Award.
