There are some things that you can't realize about this book reading only the blurb. First, it's less angst than expected, and giving that it's only 100 pages long, the story evolves quickly, not leaving you hanging too much in waiting for the two main characters peace treaty.

When Andy was still a college student, he was Jeb's lover. Jeb was a young police officer in a small beach village and Andy was a slight younger neighbour. It's not clear when their relationship started, but it's clear that five years before Andy left the small town without notice, bringing his little sister with him. At first Jeb wondered if their relationship trouble were the reason for the run, Jeb can admit that he was maybe too much jealous of the young man; there is a strong component of age difference in that, Jeb was a grown adult, even if maybe not so much more experienced, and instead Andy was at his first love and sex experience. Anyway what problems they could have, were not enough to push Andy away in that way, and so Jeb turned his worries in rage and still resents his lover.

Now Andy is come back, sister in tow, but he seems not have any intention to explain to Jeb what happened five years before, and above all to start again from where they were. Jeb is not of the same idea, he can resent the man, but he still wants him, and the want is much bigger that his wounded pride.

After all, I like the story, but probably it's too short. It would be interesting to have much more info on Jeb and Andy's relationship of five years before, maybe even a chapter or two setting in that time. Plus I'd like more development on Jeb's jealously issues, if they are enough to justify Andy's behavior. The rekindling of Andy and Jeb's love story maybe is a bit too rush, but it's good. Again I'd like a bit more on the aftermath.

There is a nice aspect in the story, the attitude of the village people toward their gay police officer: they are kind and sympathetic, this hints to a very nice atmosphere in the village.
