reviews_and_ramblingsThis was a short weekend I spent with my mother in the south of Italy, to be precise in the south part of Marche county. We slept in Camerino, but during the day wandered around and one morning I visited Matelica, a very small town, with mostly only a plaza and a lot of aristocratic palaces around it.

These are a tower house and a loggia; in medieval towns Tower Houses represented the very important people, more the tower was high more the family was important; the loggia was used for commercial and law meeting, under it you could find a marker and a trial at the same time.
Matelica is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Macerata in the Italian region Marche, located about 60 km southwest of Ancona and about 35 km west of Macerata. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 10,300 and an area of 81.0 km².
The municipality of Matelica contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Balzani, Braccano, Castiglione, Cavalieri, Colferraio, Collepere, Colli, Mistriano, Pezze, Piane, Poggeto, San Nicola, Terricoli, Valbona, and Vinano.
Matelica borders the following municipalities: Apiro, Castelraimondo, Cerreto d'Esi, Esanatoglia, Fabriano, Fiuminata, Gagliole, Poggio San Vicino, San Severino Marche. (From Wikipedia)
