The Rainbow Awards: Some Adjustments
Oct. 5th, 2009 11:55 amFirst of all, thank you for the huge partecipation to the awards that is still going. The community of people who voted was good and fair, and it was really little work to follow you. In this weekend some issues were brough to my attention, and so here the results:
- At first I didn't think on the obviously work behind the writing and editing process of a book. I didn't limit the submission to books with a minimum length, but authors were better than me and their submissions were all of novels. Then the readers started to vote and candidate their favorites, and I filtered the eligibility date but not the length, worst, probably I told to some readers that it was ok to submit also short stories. My fault. I looked the poll and actually there is not so many cases (if nothing at all), where short stories are in the first position with novels, so if it will be like that in the end, there will be two separate categories, Short Story and Novella/Novel. I will ask to people more expert than me to give me a parameter in words.
- The first phase is a nomination phase more than a voting phase, even if the votes of this phase will be computed with the second phase. So you can vote as many books as you like, even inside the same category, and multiple submissions in the same category for different books or in different categories for the same book, are accepted. But in the end, inside each category, only one book per author will arrive in the final 10 position. I will obviously consider the book with more votes inside the same category: this means that, in phase 3, when we will have the final 10 books for each category, only one book per author will be considered. Cross categories during phase 3 it will be possible to have different books or the same book from the same author in the first 10 position (for example 1 book by Author X in Contemporary, 1 book (different or same book) from Author X in Mystery), but at the end of the third phase, it's not possible to have the same book as winner for more categories: if that is the case, I will consider the book as winner in the category with more votes, and in the category with less votes will pass to phase 4 the second positioned book.
