Second Time Around by Bobby Michaels

I can frankly say that Bobby Michaels is becoming one of my favourite writers in the M/M genre.

Second Time Around is his first paranormal romance but you can still find some of his caracterist touches in it: the young lovers, the difficult outing for one or for both of them, the Marine Corps... but somewhat this novel is more lighthearted, and it is strange cause it deals with a delicate matter like HIV.

David is coming back home after ten years to heal his wounds: his ten years lover has cheated on him and he has not thought two times and has dumped him immediately. But now he is back in the town where he met his real first love, his childhooh friend Josh, his straight as an arrow friend and so his impossible love. Fortunately Josh doen't live anymore there and David can settled himself, only to discover that Josh is back home himself and he is in love with David, now as ten year before. Everything perfect, but David discovers that his ex lover has passed him the HIV and that Josh is a werewolf and biting him he can heal David from the virus and...

Josh is not the "classical" alpha male: he is gentle and caring, sometimes childish. He can cry and he is a lot more than normal enthusiastic  during lovemaking, like a child with a new toy. And David is cute, so shy but also so proud, he is not so open to love like Josh is, he need reassurance. I like the relationship between the two, and like very much the aftersex moment, when they talk and play: maybe only a couple who know each other so long can be like this.

Second Time Around is a smooth novel, you read it in a breath and close the last page with a peaceful feeling: it is all, simple and pure love.

I don't know why the yahoo groups don't work, I fear that is cause Bobby is very sick, in the last six months was in and out of hospital for a serious pancreatite attack: I follow all the decourse through his Yahoo Groups, Kate Douglas is a dear friend of him and she has let as know how Bobby is going. Now he is at home but last week he has had another attack, so he is not yet out of danger.

Thank you for the info. I must have accidentally added a period to the yahoo address. Not that it does me any good since the group is closed membership. But thank you for giving me more info on him. Now I do know he is a guy, because you're right, I couldn't understand the sex scenes coming from a gay guy. Interesting. You're right, they are quite unrealistic. But I heard what you said about reviewing him and took them to heart. Knowing he's a writer for Nifty helps understand his writing a lot more. Thanks for the help! :)

and another thing: if you think to read and review one of his stories and you end up not liking it, please could you consider to delay the review? I know that in this moment he bring a lot of courage in the people who write to him and maybe he is not strong enough to read a negative review. I say this cause he has a very particular writing style, he is somewhat naive in his sex scene, very extreme but also very joyous, I can define him an "happy porn". Sometimes reading it I'm wondering how a gay man can write such irrealistic scenes (sorry for the parenthesis but to understand better: a eleven inches cock deep throating the first time the boy try it...), but then I think, well, maybe he likes to write and read it. And after all, also I like his novel, they are so "naive". elisa

WHAT'S COMING UP...: Dear Friends,

I thought I would let you all know that I've been asked by Loose Id
to work on a couple of stories for two upcoming special promotions.

The first is going to happen in October in honor of Halloween. I'm
going to be doing a very short story with two of my previously
published characters. The story will be very HOT, SWEET and SEXY and
so, therefore, I decided to do it about my two characters who had
the least sex in their story - TIM AND TY from THE VETERAN. There
will be opportunity to purchase or to get the story free with the
purchase of other Halloween releases. More later on this.

Then, for Veteran's Day in early November, there will be four
novellas dealing with VERY ALPHA military males. For this special, I
will be doing the Male/Male novella - of course about members of my
beloved Marine Corps. As some research for that book, I will be
flying to Washington, DC this coming weekend to visit friends and to
also see the National Museum of the Marine Corps and Heritage Center
in Quantico, VA.

Along with these, I'm working on JOCK DORM 3, a second novel of the
Werewolves in SECOND TIME AROUND along with a Vampire story that
will be going to another publisher. More about these in the future.

That should give you some good things to look forward to.

HEALTH UPDATE: Your wish is my command - sometimes.

As to my health, I'm feeling stronger every day and going to work. To
tell you how good I feel, this Friday, the day after my 56th Birthday,
I'm flying to Washington D.C. to visit with one of the owners of my
publishing company - Treva Harte of Loose Id. Thanks to her, I'm going
to get to see the new Marine Corps Museum in Quantico and drown myself
in everything "Semper Fi!".
