Philip Dwayne Labhart was the owner of Labhart Production Group, a commercial production and editing facility in West Los Angeles. He died on January 18, 1994, in Los Angeles of an AIDS-related disease. He was 38.Labhart, a graduate of Texas Wesleyan University, began his broadcast career at D'Arcy, Masius, Benton & Bowles Advertising in L.A. in 1980.
As an executive producer and editor there, he worked on numerous commercial campaigns, including Denny's, Sea World, Van De Kamps and Security Pacific Bank. He won a Bronze Lion at the Cannes Film Festival, Gold and Silver Medals at the New York Intl. Film Festival and several Belding Awards.
Labhart left DMB&B and formed Labhart Production Group in 1989. In addition to his production work, he produced the West Coast premiere of "Eastern Standard" at the Coast Playhouse and he directed and co-produced "Flesh and Blood" at the Hudson Theater in 1993.
He is survived by his companion, Richard Waterhouse.
