World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day, observed on 1 December every year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. Government and health officials observe the day, often with speeches or forums on the AIDS topics. Since 1995, the President of the United States has made an official proclamation on World AIDS Day. Governments of other nations have followed suit and issued similar announcements.

AIDS has killed more than 25 million people between 1981 and 2007. Of course it's impossible to remember each one of them in a single place, but I tried to give to some of them a little place on this blog, day per day during the year. Many of you told me that, while it was sad to read about those often young lives cut down so soon, it was important to know about them. So today I want to collect them all together in a post, giving you the link to their stories.

Elisa, how do you feel about me linking to your blog on my (fannish) tumblr and lj/dw? I really think I know fannish type people who would like to know about the work you do, but have not been sure whether you would like the reference from fandom, non professional places? Either answer is fine!
