Starting from March up until September I will be part of the 2014 GRL Blog Tour as featured blogger. I will host authors attending the GayRomLit Retreat in Chicago (October 16-19, 2014: gayromlit.com/content/2014-grl-featured-bGood morning all! As some of you know, I’m a Supporting Author going to GayRomLit 2014 in Chicago! (This will be my first convention YAY!) However, today I’d like to talk to you about what inspires me when I’m writing. What pushes me to write the stories I do.
When I wrote my first m/m romance, it was as a push from a friend in reaction to how I often am treated when I go out—I hate shopping due to the attitudes of others about my mobility. You see, I don’t “look sick” whatever that means, so I’m often harassed at Wal-Mart, the grocery store, etc. for using the little electric shopping carts and more. A friend said I should write a story where the MC had mobility issues like mine and then give that character a happy ending.
LOL, yep, that was the entire basis of me writing, giving characters the love and acceptance I wanted. You see, I’m also now single and have had my mobility used against me on that front too, so it made sense, her suggestion. Mind you, I really don’t think she expected me to write a sensual Dom and an abuse victim falling in love ;) but that’s who came to me.
I’m not the kind of author that can plan out, outline, and pre-plot all the lovely things in a story. Nope, I’m a totally character driven author, so on top of bossy characters dictating their stories to me, everything from the news, to stories my friends tell me of their lives or pasts, to simple random thoughts influence my writing and spurn me to write more. I love sharing hope, love, and joy, even if it is only between the pages of my books.
So what is my inspiration? Life!
