KJ Charles has written an excellent continuation of this series. This book can be read as a standalone, however. The characters are developed well throughout, and layers are added right to the end. The plot is complex and exciting. The setting, being a historical, shows a lot of research was done and appears very accurate. The characters behave appropriately for the time period. KJ's writing style is very good. The prose flows seamlessly, the dialogue is great too.
One of the best books I've read recently. The plot and characters held me captive until the early hours of the morning.

This story was an absolute delight from start to finish. Everything I could want in a light fantasy story was present, as well as everything I could want in a single author anthology. Love, adventure, ease of readability... Not once did the author throw me out of the story. I expect a lot from a story before I can give a perfect score... Goblins hit all the high notes, and earned a perfect score from me.
Melanie Tushmore is one of those authors who create people who love to read. Her engaging style, superlative use of language, and sheer mastery of the art of writing are what I hope for whenever I open one of the stories I read for the Rainbow Awards. Her characters are memorable, her writing is flawless, and her stories are riveting. I’ll be putting Melanie Tushmore on my auto-buy list, and adding her publishing house for this amazing fantasy story to my list of favorites.
It's a fun and interesting world the author has created. Rarely are the more evil or dark people the focus of the relationships, and it's nice to see something fresh like that. The almost Stockholm syndrome tone of the first story was interesting, not badly handled, just not something you seem too often. It had a very nice ending for sure. I really enjoyed the descriptions of how the goblins used everyday items, fire flies in cob webs and such.
